What made you decide on VSG vs. other surgeries?
mokee replied to Scylla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So many say they can take NAIDS with the VSG but my surgeon says no can not take because of the ulcer risk. Anyone out there know why so many say this? -
I wish you would not use script writing. It is so hard to read. I usually try to read them but fail. Would love to read your posts if I could. PLEASE print!

7 weeks out and still feeling sick
mokee replied to bettyb71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You must talk him into getting scoped. I remember when my husband had cancer and he lay in the hospital bed so ill and he said "Oh I don't feel like eating and just laid there". I said "I guess I will go to the post office and get a change of address card so all your mail can come here". He sat up and ate. I know as soon as they stop eating it is over. That was called tough love. He is cancer free, thank God, 7 yrs later. It is up to you to care for your loved one no matter what you must do and no matter how hard it is. -
When I had surgery last yr I started seeing the dr in June and had all my hoops done by Sept but because of all the people trying to get in by end of yr did not have surgery till Nov 28. Very hard time of yr to go thru this. Surgery was 2 days after my 66th birthday and 1 wk after Thanksgiving. I had our family Thanksgiving the weekend before my preop diet began. Skipped all the Xmas parties because they were all centered around food and could not handle that at that time. If I were you I would try and get a tentative date from the dr so you can get it done this yr. Just giving you a heads up about the difficulty of having surgery at this time of yr.

You are very s mart to be able to have this surgery at such a young age. But you must remember that this is a life style change and it takes a lot if work to get the weight off. Later on you must not let head hunger take over and not go back to your old ways of eating. Best of luck to you.

I enjoyed watching the videos. Please share some more as time goes on. -
Good for you. In a month I'm going on a cruise around the Hawaiian islands, it is our 45 th anniversary and oh I hope I can just stay the same so I can say I went on a cruise without gaining. I'm 9 months out and it will be hard because I can eat most anything with no problem. Well, best of luck to you and we can compare notes after the cruise. Have a great time.

I also can not go to sleep till 3-4 in the morning. Get woke up by my husbands alarm at 6:30 then sometimes go back to sleep until 9.

I started seeing the dr in June of 2012. I only needed a 90 day nutritional period for my ins. That put me at Sept, so I also thought I would have surgery sometime in Oct. But did not realize so many people were trying to get in by end of yr. Had surgery Nov 28, 2012. Was 2 days after my 66 birthday and was on all liquids for Thanksgiving. By Christmas I was able to eat 2 oz of chicken and was so grateful . Did not attend any Xmas parties because they all revolved around food. If you simply can not miss all the things for the holidays and birthdays then I would suggest the middle of January when everything is over. We go to Fl in January so that was not an option for me.

Best of luck to you.

2 yrs out, at goal, but I have a question!
mokee replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Who is giving you a B12 shot? If your PCP, why are they not checking your levels before hand. Why would you take biotin now? Hair loss for me only happened for about a month at the 3 month postop. BTW you have done fantastic. Perky boobs sounds so good to me LOL. -
Have you both tried a PPI? Sometimes acid reflux mimics hunger.

I used a heating pad and heating blanket the first 3 months because I was so cold. Colder than I had ever been in my life. I put the pad on my stomach and I was alright. Take it easy, this is your time to heal and get better. Take the word of an old lady, the dirt will always be there.

How much have you lost when you started at BMI 40-45 on Surgery day?
mokee replied to Sydney Lynn Pinckley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here I am 8 1/2 months out and down 82 lbs. I am older and do not exercise so I lose slowly. This surgery is a ride you will never forget. It is just amazing. -

mokee replied to Oliver's Mom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You are doing very well. I had surgery around the same time as you and things are at a snails pace for me. I still have 20 some lbs to lose and don't know if I will make it. Getting very discouraged. But I am very happy with what I have lost. -

I'm an addict, my scale is my addiction

Better a scale addict than a food addict! Why are you all so hard on yourselves? -
do you feel BETTER? HOW?
mokee replied to birdmadgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hopeliveshere- I can tell you that I leaked all the time. Had to wear poise pads for many years. A month after surgery I no longer wear them. I just wear panties. Why? I don't understand. Was my stomach so big that it was pressing on my bladder? Anyone out there know this answer? Surgery will change many things in your life. Good luck to both of you. -
