We Have Been Through Some Funny Stuff - Let's Laugh A Bit

Keep the laughs coming. I know I appreciate them and I'm sure others do to. -
I'm so sorry about all the problems you have gone through. But I have no answers.

Has everyone out there had to go through a apnea study? I just found out today it is one of my requirements. I know at least 20 people that have had this done over the years and were told that they had sleep apnea and talked into a c-pap machine that sits in there closet. They always try it out and either they can't wear it or it comes off in the middle of the night. I really do not want to have to do this and spend the money that it requires. I think it is a big rip off. I was told that wls is elective and that is why. I have had other surgeries in my life that were elective and never was forced to to this. Any advise?

I III just saw your post from way back in Jan. I am just starting the journey and I am 65. Why are you not pleased with the results? Did you have co-morbidities when you started? Have they improved. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and hope that this will remove me from insulin. I have heard of some it has helped but most are young. Don't understand why this site has not taken off. We older ones have different issues than the younger ones. Please tell me your story. Thanks, Mokee

So happy that you were able to get a comfy chair. Good luck on your college and especially your upcoming surgery

I am completely understanding of your problem. I use food as a crutch for every emotion. I am 2 months from surgery so I am trying to work on this. It is my biggest fear only eating liquids. I have heard from many that you must have 3-4 protein shakes a day and no chewable food and sugar free popcycles, crystal light, 64 oz water. They say the protein helps with your hunger. You have quit smoking now also wow what a woman you are. I'm counting on you to get through this and let me know so I know I can do this. Thank you so much, mokee

Skye, That is a pulmonary function test you are talking about. I have to do it also. The sleep apnea test you have to stay overnight and they hook you up to all kinds of wires and measure how often you supposedly stop breathing.

Gastric Bypass And The Sleeve
mokee replied to mmarie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
mmarie, I have not had the surgery yet but I am going to have the sleeve. There is much less rerouting. It is a simpiler surgery. Your surgeon may not do these or not many since it is only been widely done for 5 years I was told. I went to many meetings to find a surgeon that has done quite a few of the sleeves and has had success. I live in a big city but only one bariatric surgeon in our area has done more than 200 in the past 2 years. You still get nourishment with the sleeve you don't with rny. Take time to read the stories on this site and go to different meetings about wls and have it explained there. Ask a lot of questions at the meetings. Lots of luck, Mokee -
Desirae, You are so strong and lucky. I also was an obese child, an obese teen, an obese adult. I was teased, ridiculed, laughed at and as an adult you know by the looks you get they are laughing behind your back. Now I am 65 and going to take the plunge. Maybe it will extend my life a few years, maybe I will have less pain, maybe I will feel better about myself. But I must try. You are so young and you can be anything you want to be. Take this opportunity and fly. Keep in touch with all of us, we need you as much as you need us.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It really helps those of us that are waiting for surgery. We need to hear how bad it is and how good. I know when you heal you will be on your way. Best of luck and you are in my prayers.
