I had GS 2 days after my 66th birthday. I live in southern Ohio and Medicare paid for mine. From what I've read it depends on where you live whether Medicare pays. When you go to the weight loss seminars they can tell you if Medicare pays in their practice. I have lost 85 lbs in 10 months and my diabetes has improved greatly. I went from 150 units of insulin a day to 30 units a day. It is so much easier to get around. It is great to shop in regular womens dept stores instead of plus sizes. I went from a 24/26 to a 14/16. Many other good things have come from this also. Don't let your age deter you.

My husband Bill had lung cancer. He was under the knife for 5 hours after them delaying the surgery that was scheduled for 7:30 the night before to noon in the morning and he actually went at 2:30. The surgery itself was a success. They were able to do it with small incisions and not crack his ribs thank God. Because of all your prayers the surgeon's hands were guided by God. But in intensive care it was a nightmare. They had to tie him down so he wouldn't pull out the tubes especially the breathing tube. When I saw my strong man all tied up and a tube down his throat it was too much for me. He looked like he was dead. I broke down and had to get out of there. I stayed at my youngest boys house and did manage to get 4 hrs sleep. Getting ready to go back. My middle son stayed in hospital room with him. Please continue to pray for his recovery. Thank you.

Good for you. We seniors must forge on. It is not easy. I have stopped losing for months now. I also know why, I eat the wrong foods. I also know how to maintain because I am maintaining. I fluctuate 3 lbs. it is very disappointing because I am good all day and then bam at night I cheat. I only have 23 lbs to go and it feels like 100. I have lost 85 and wanted to be at goal at my surgiversary but that can not happen since that is only 2 months away. Best of luck to you and keep in touch.

Got My Surgery Date: 10/22/13 (Now I'm shaking in my boots!)
mokee replied to Trebor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems everyone's experience with pain is so different. I had bad pain when I woke up. Had no gas pain just pain everywhere. I am older, 66, and the dr had to go thru some very old scar tissue that the surgery took an extra 20 min. I was really shocked to be in so much pain because I figure with 5 tiny incisions it would be nothing. But I was not as lucky as some. Whatever it is it gets better everyday and only lasts about a week. Best of luck to you and don't think about this part, think of the overall picture of what you want to accomplish. -
Your video did not play for me!

11 weeks post op? You should be able to eat anything. I was released to all foods at 6 weeks post op. you will have no problem finding lunch meats, cheese, hamburger, etc. at American restaurants. Have a great time.

I know most people or carb crazy but will I ever be able to eat a sandwich again?
mokee replied to endless80's topic in Food and Nutrition
Burger King has a new chicken wrap with grilled chix, blue cheese, dried cranberries and apple slices. It is delish. I ate almost all of the insides. I left 2 pieces of the chix it was too much. Left all of the thick wrap. I am 10 months out and when I order a sandwich I usually eat the lower bun with the insides but can not finish the whole thing. Since you are a male your sleeve may be longer or bigger than females. -
Pain meds and heating pad.

My husband was diagnosed wiyh lung cancer 3 weeks ago. He goes into surgery next week. He has a lot of health problems and I hope and pray he makes it. This is the main reason to quit besides the WLS. I smoked for 35 yrs and quit cold turkey 13 yrs ago. It was very hard for quite a long time. You can do this if I did.

I too am having the same problem. I did well all day and blew it big time tonight. I can not gain weight. I have gotten rid of all my big clothes and bought new ones. The undergarments were very pricey. I just crave all the junk. I try to get back on track and wham there I go eating again. If anyone finds a solution tell me.

Why Is It That As Human's We Never Seem To Be Satified?
mokee commented on NewBeginningsForMe2012's blog entry in Kathy Tyler's Blog
Very pretty. You have done excellent. -
Depends on your insurance. Probably will not get done till next year. A lot of people try to get in before the end of yr because of deductibles etc. The surgeons are swamped. At least that is what happened to me last yr. and I read this with others also. So just be patient and do a lot of research and make sure this is for you. Take a list of questions to the seminar and you will learn quite a bit.

Weight Loss and Clothing Size
mokee commented on FibroDiva's blog entry in Fibro Diva's Bariatric Blog
Sizing is sooooo stupid. I have lost 83 lbs and wore a 24-26 now I wear 14-16. Must try on everything because sizes at one store are so different from one to another. I so want a pair of regular jeans. I have never worn jeans with a zipper because of my weight. Asked all my DIL's yesterday where to go and what to look for. They said to be prepared to try on many pairs and the sizes can vary 3 sizes. It is not you. They have made clothing bigger and marked with smaller sizes. When I weighed 140 many moons ago I wore a 14 in pants. Now I weigh 190 and have bought some 14's that fit. What gives? Just go shopping and try on what you think will fit and go from there. -

I agree with Madam. You look so much younger. -
I agree, can not eat that much at some of those meals.

Let us know how it comes out. Many of us are interested.

Best of luck. You will be just fine.

You are doing fantastic. You should be very proud of yourself. Keep it up all the way to goal. Don't sway off track.

Go to your drs office and tell him something is terribly wrong. By this time things should be a lot better. If they see the agony you are in in person they will run some tests. Who was your dr? May God bless you and ease your suffering.

If you still struggle afterwards, why do it?
mokee replied to Healthygal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your last sentence is the key. You know what you are looking at in the future. I am 66 and went thru this 10 months ago. I already have all those future things but I am not in a wheelchair like my mother was for 15 yrs. and did not want to end up there either. Diabetes was out of control, 150 units of insulin a day, 4 shots a day a human pin cushion. Now I only test once a day and 2 shots 15 units each. If I had done RNY back 15 yrs ago insulin and many other of my problems would be non existent. You are so lucky to live in an age where you have this choice so young. The point is to live on 1600 cal for maintence, the amount for me. This is a fair amount of food especially if you don't have the hunger. I am down 83 lbs with 23 to go to where I want to be. I will never be a bathing beauty or off all medications but maybe I will be able to care for myself and enjoy the rest of my life. This is my goal even if I have to struggle. It's your call! -
Also NO drinking with meals. It's called the 30-30-30 rule.

Pretty butterfly. Why is your print so small and a light color? Very hard to read.
