  1. I just was sleeved this past Wed. When you wake up from surgery I felt like a freight train had run over me. It was rough. I came home yesterday and the surgeon had to go thru a lot of heavy scar tissue from my gall bladder surgery from 30 years ago. So I still am in a lot of pain. I am struggling to drink all the fluids and walk as much as they advised. Also I do not know how old you are but I am 66 and still had the nerve to go thru with this. I want to be able to get around in my last years. Everytime I see someone in a cart or wheelchair and they are overweight I bet most of the time it is from the weight. I don't want to be that old person. You have to keep your eye on the prize and by next year at this time I hope we all meet here and tell each other all the changes that have happened in our lives. It may be a rough patch for a few weeks but not near as rough as spending the rest of your life housebound or in a nursing home or dependent on others for your everyday care.
  2. I had surgery Nov 28 and I had lost 15 lbs pre-op. Weighed myself today and I gained 5 lbs during the surgery. This is very depressing to me. My diabetes did not go away, gained back some of the pre-op weight. Please explain why this happened.

    Sleeved!

Well, i am sleeved. Had surgery on Nov 28, past Wednesday. Came home today. In a lot of pain and taking pain meds every four hours. I sure hope I don't get dehydrated because I can not seem to drink enough liquids. They had me on a bag of stuff in the hospital and I was keeping hydrated. The doctor had a hard time getting through some scar tissue from my gall badder surgery 30 years ago. This is where he put the large insruments in and where he pulled the stomach out. My internet was out before I went to the hospital for a couple days. So I missed out on all you guys encouragement at the last minute. Surprised my self that I did not chicken out. My surgery was over 1 hour late. They said the doctor was late and he must of had some problems with the one before me. Needless to say there were 3 more after me. Everyone at the hospital were very good and treated me excellent. I was impressed. He said he had no pictures. I would have liked to seen my sleeve but will not I guess. We left for the hospital at 6:15 and arrived at 7:15. My surgery was scheduled for 9:15 but was not done until 10:45. Inside the surgery suite I met the nicest -people. All of them in their 30's and we had a few laughs before they put me out. When I awoke I felt like a freight train over me. Terrible pain. Stayed in recovery till 3:00. They were waiting for a room. I also had very good nurses and PCA's. I was given a chose of going home the next day or stay another night and I chose to stay. I am glad that I did. It gave me more time to figure out how to get up and down and to drink (I still don't have that down). So stay as long as you can. Don't be in a rush to get home. Now my journey begins. Oh by the way I lost 15 lbs on the pre-op diet and I don't know if I gained on the hospital stay. I get to have Mushy food starting tomorrow. Looking forward to tuna salad. I wish everyone best of luck on your upcoming surgery.
  4. Well I had the surgery on this past Wed. I had my 66th birthday. So you definitely are not too old. I am a type II diabetic on large amount of insulin plus pills. This is why I had this surgery. I hope that I get off the insulin. That is my main goal. The first visit they deceide what your insurance will pay and what you have to do for them. Then in my case I had to have a 3 month NUT visits and tests and more tests. Then they schedule your surgery and I had to do a 2 week pre-op diet. I lost 15 lbs during this time. In the 3 months I never lost much of anything. It was as if every meal was my last. So it is up to you weither you chose to lose before hand. Best of luck to you. Keep in touch.

    Soft/low Fiber Stage(Wk 3) Ideas?

Tuna is on my list for that time. I was just sleeved 2 days ago and came home today. Give them a call on Monday and have them fax you more info or e-mail.
  6. On it now. My surgery is Wed. This is my 8th day. I am so thirsty tonight for some reason. Can't get enough to drink. The only thing that keeps me going is this web site and another that I read all the time. The good stories make me think I can do this because of the light at the end. We will get through this and we will make it to surgery and we will get through the surgery. We will heal and by next year we will be able to eat but just not too much. Hang in there. Everyone says it will get better. Keep in touch.
  7. What has everyone lost on the pre-op diet? Just wanted to know if I am on track. I'm 10 days in and have lost 13 lbs. Does this sound normal?
  8. The papers that I signed with the surgeon before they set up the surgery date said that I should be aware that many people have acid reflux after this surgery. I do not have it now but my surgery is next week and we shall see.
  9. Chat away. I am a woman and am just about ready for surgery. It is next Wednesday. Went through all the hoops. Took me 4 months to find a surgeon that I thought was experienced and then another 3 months to go through all the tests appointments. Then another 2 months to wait for surgery date. And finally it is here. If you have any questions please ask.
  10. I sure hope this happens to me.
  11. You are so lucky to have a husband like that. Cherish him. Mine goes to work everyday same time and comes home and wants to know if I want to go out and eat. I'm on pre-op diet so he means go out and watch me eat. I may drive myself to the hospital because he probably won't even ask when or where hasn't so far and it is Wednesday.

    Thanksgiving

I am home alone. Since I am the one that has Thanksgiving we had it on the 11th since I would be on my pre-op diet. It is strange to be alone on this holiday since usually the house is full. My husband left early this morning to take his mother out and spend the day with her. Every night he comes home from work and wants to go out to eat. I did this 3 times last week. Can not do this again. I eat broth from a bowl of veg Soup while he eats steak and potatos and hamburgers. As you can see he does not want me to have this done. Oh well, next year will be different.

  15. What is the best brand of unflavored protein shakes to buy? I enjoy nector cappacino the best but have gotten tired of the chocolate sweet flavor. Does the unflavored mix well with all drinks?

  19. I also had my thyroid removed because of cancer. Didn't really think about this in considering the sleeve. Have Type II diabetes also and that is why I am doing this.

    Swelling?

I just started the pre-op diet 3 days ago and was at a movie for 3 hours and the drive over 4 1/2. Would usually have ankles like that. Last night when we returned they were smaller then they have been in a very long time.
  22. Need to know if Medicare covers the sleeve in the Cinti area for people over 61 years old. Please step up because my surgery is in 2 weeks. My BCBS will not give me a pre-cert because I have Medicare and it is primary. If Medicare does not pay , BCBS will not pay either. I can not afford to pay for this surgery. HELP
