Gain 2 pounds and surgery on 12-12-12
mokee replied to Breeg89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was like a yo-yo. Finally the last month the doctor said if I did not lose 4 lbs in the next month he would not operate. Well, then I lost 6. Now I am post-op 2 weeks and enjoying a 27 lbs weight loss so far. I had food funeral after food funeral. Everything that I saw that I liked I ate. I don't regret it now. I will be able to eat my favorite things again 1 day in moderation. Everyone does the nutritional part in their own way. Whatever is comfortable for you. Best of luck. -
What did you do when you were scared post-surg?
mokee replied to TheLCSpencer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The many reasons I went ahead with the sleeve. Diabetes: got very tired of sticking myself 7 times a day like a human pin cushion. 2 weeks out and now I only test. As my weight continued to climb before, I could picture myself in a wheel chair as my mother was for 10 years and dependent on someone forever to push me around and take care of me. My like was getting limited in what I felt like doing. Wanted to live to see my only granddaughter marry and have a baby. I was on a path of self destruction. Since of was put on insulin 2 years ago I have gained 25 lbs. My eating was totally out of control. I was so very depressed and cried all the time. I never wanted to go out. It was too much trouble to just get dressed. Now 2 weeks post-op I have lost 27 lbs and have clothes that I have not worn in 2 years. I have noticed that the depression has lifted for me. I want to go places even though I am so very tired weak. Tomorrow I am going to drive myself Xmas shopping and do as much as I can. My new life is starting and I couldn't be happier. This was a very big decision to have this surgery at age 66. My husband tried to talk me out of it but I kept going. So far I don't regret one minute of all the things I had to go through for 9 months and the pain after surgery. Best of luck to you. -
I am 10 days post-op and doing very well. I am 66 years old. I started this journey 9 months ago. I read and read and read. When I got weak and was going to drop out you all were there for me. I would read your posts and see how well everyone was doing and I would trudge on. If it had not been for you all I would of said forget it. My husband was against it. My kids were behind me but I have 3 boys and they never tried to talk me out of it but they were not there on an everyday basis. It was very scary at my age. I had to go through every test immaginable. I passed them all. Now I am 25 lbs lighter and on my way to a better life. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

surgery tomorrow, any advice?
mokee replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 days out and I was lucky and never had the gas pain. Don't bother with a robe because you will have a bag of saline on you all the time you are there. I took all this stuff with me and just brought it back home. -
I just had the sleeve 10 day ago. I do not have a thyroid. I will be on pills for the rest of my life. But as far as weight loss goes I have lost 25 lbs since pre-op so I guess it doesn't matter. If you don't have an endocrinologist, may I suggest that you go to one. They know more then the primary care.

What vitamins are you taking?
mokee replied to latice19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me taking 3 bariatric vitamins and 1 petite calcium a day. I started this 5 days after surgery and is supposed to be for the rest of my life -
I am newly sleeved 10 days ago. I went to my first WLS meeting 9 months ago. I had already looked into the band 4 years prior and even signed up for it but changed my mind. I am so glad I did. There are so many people out there with problems with the band. Do your research before your decide. When I went to the last WLS meeting I found out about the sleeve. I had never heard of it before. I went to consider the by-pass. When I heard about the sleeve I was very excited. That is when I started my research. And here I am 25 lbs lighter and things are looking up for me. Best of luck.

Trying Not to freak out today...
mokee commented on ShrinkingMama's blog entry in SURGERY IS TOMORROW!
I'm 10 days out and it was not that bad. The people in the hospital I went to were just great to me. From the people that signed me in to all the pple in the OR. There are a lot of pple in the OR so be prepared for that. A lot more than I would have thought. You will do just fine. I have already lost 25 lbs since pre-op. Keep your mind on that. -
Good for you taking the healthy popcorn.

New and beginning the journey...
mokee replied to bostonhok's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are still going to have to count calories and protein and probably other things. I am only newly sleeved and I have to count how many ounces I eat and how many oz I drink. It is definitely a new way of life. So make sure you do your research and decide if this is for you. But on the other hand you will lose weight. I am but 10 days out and have lost 25 lbs since pre-op. Best of luck and we are all here for you. -
December 11th I'm being reborn to the rest of my life!
mokee replied to proctor67's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I guess I have told you this before but you look just like my oldest son. I had the sleeve on Nov 28 and am doing just fine. I am down 22 lbs since pre-op. This was a 9 month process for me also. Most are on clear liquids after surgery for at least 2 days. Best of luck to you Proctor and I will be praying for you. -
looking good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had surgery on Nov 28 and my stomach looked like a mountain range. Now at 8 days out that is all gone. In fact today I can finally drink like a normal person again. I was having so much trouble even getting water down. I see improvment everyday. I lost another 6 lbs since 2 days ago. Hard to believe. I guess mostly water. My feet legs and ankles were very swollen for about 6 days and that is gone now. Hang in there. It gets better everyday.

Getting Sleeved In 4 Hrs. Scared To Death!
mokee replied to jrobert1981's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will be just fine. I am one week out and food is the last thing on my mind. There is no hunger. So far not tempted by food commercials. I eat my mushies and try to get in my liquids and protein. This first week that is a full time job. Best of luck to you. -
Was Anyone Awake During The Breathing Tube?
mokee replied to ASwinton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had the surgery last week and I was asleep when it went in and asleep when it came out. -
I was sleeved last Wed. It was a 9 month journey for me. On one hand it seemed like it took forever and on the other it was only yesterday. I had two weeks of pre-op shakes and six 1/2 cup servings of certain things. After the 3rd day none of that was so bad. Just missed the real Thanksgiving but I had my family one on a Sunday before the pre-op started so I don't feel like I missed anything.

They told me to use Kroger's Carbsmart. They told me not to use the greek even though it has a lot of protein because it is too high in carbs.

Had my surgery Nov 28. Same thing here. On the right side he had to go through a lot of scar tissue also and everytime I go to get out of a chair or the bed it feels like a knife is going in thru to my back. When I try to walk the infamous 10 minutes I tire so easily. I am on the liquid percocet and I have enough for 2 weeks 6 times a day. I have had many surgeries and never any as painful as this has been for me.
