Insulin Therapy and slow weight loss? HELP!
mokee replied to kadams116's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on 26 units before meals and 74 at bedtime. After surgery for a few weeks off of insulin and only took metforin. Main reason I had surgery was to get the diabetes in control because in the 2 years I was on insulin I gained 25 lbs. now at 11 weeks post op iam back on 30 units before bed plus the 1000 ml of metforin twice a day. I am down 52 lbs since start of pre op liquids. I need to talk to my endocrinologist and see how we'll my pancreas and liver is working. I hope I can at least lose another 50 lbs. it seems so not possible for some reason. It has slowed down so much but I have to keep trying. Best of luck to you and we have to hang in there. -

Good for you, you are doing great. Keep up the hard work and soon you will be a so much smaller and healthier version of yourself.

I had surgery nov 28 two days after my birthday. Thanksgiving I was on pre-op diet so I chose to stay at home alone. Xmas parties were out of the question for me also. Finally by Xmas I could eat some chicken and roasted a big one. My best friend is very overweight and she is avoiding me like the plague. I guess our life will change a lot more than we think. It is very hard but I am glad I have lost 50 lbs and hope I continue to lose. By the way I am 66 years old and all of this. Is a huge adjustment for me.

My goodness took 15 years off of your age. Looking good.

I am 66 and I was uncomfortable for 2weeks, but I pretty much took care of myself for the whole time. You will need someone to go to the store for you until you can drive again and that is different for everyone depending on whether you are still on pain medication. You mainly have to drink Protein and Water the first 2 weeks so it is sip sip sip. You must get up to fix your Protein drinks and you must walk around the house anyway. Best of luck to you

Want to have surgery in June. When should i go see a doctor about it?
mokee replied to Olivia23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should start now. There are many tests to go thru and then you can surly get the date you want. Do not wait till last minute. You also have a lot of research to do. Doctors, sleeve, other options. Do not take this lightly, it is a huge change in your life so read, read, study. You must be sure of which doctor is best, his outcomes, his experience with the sleeve. It took me going to 4 different doctors seminars to finally choose the best one for me. This alone took 3months. It was march of 2012 and I was finally sleeved on nov 28. -
It sounds like he misses you his friend. You had a relationship with him and lunch time food and he wants that back. Maybe suggest that he bring his lunch once in awhile and you both could eat together. Then explain what you are going thru now so he understands. Men are dense sometimes and have to be told outright.

I have lost 50 some lbs in the past 3 months and I also had to go back on insulin. It was very disappointing for me also. I wanted to not be a human pin cushion for the rest of my life. This is the main reason I had surgery. Just hope as I lose more i still have hope.

Web sites like this one were my only means of support before and now after. If it was not for all these wonderful people I would never have had surgery. I would have backed out. So keep reading and asking questions while you find a new dr. We are all here for you.

Looks like you are doing well. Ask your nutritionalist for advise. Every surgeon is different.

about to be four weeks out and concerned
mokee replied to Obsidian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being only 1month out, a 1000 cal is way to much. How are you able to eat that much. I am just starting to eat 800-900 cal at 3 months out. You need to check with your nutritionalist and get their advise. -
I too was in horrible pain from the time I woke up and the pain meds did not cut it. My dr asked me if I wanted to stay an extra day and iam so glad I did. It was a lot better the next day.

Question about back & joint pain...
mokee replied to DrmBig4Evr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also in extreme pain neck, lower back, knees sometimes . I had surgery 3 months ago and have lost 52 lbs so you would think it would be better. I went off of NAIDS 2 weeks before surgery maybe that is it or it could be all the meat I eat now. I never ate much meat beefore. When I see the surgeon I will ask if it is soon enough to go back on NAIDS. Are you on NAIDS? -
Just wanted to inform everyone that Medicare does pay for the sleeve. Had surgery 5 weeks ago and just got the hospital bill &medicare did pay for real. I know there has been a lot of questions whether they would pay or not. Hope this helps ones that are on the fence.

Well, there is no going back so I suggest you try so tuna with fat free mayo, Soups of any kind are always good, scrambled eggs good source of Protein. You must get your protein and liquids in daily. It is still a struggle for me with liquids and I am out 3 months. You can do this, I know you can because I. Am doing it. I am a slow loser because of my age and inactivity. Find a high protein food that you like and eat it. Best of luck and things will get better.

Eeeekkkkk! Tomorrows surgery day!
mokee replied to Emilee68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is different degrees of pain for everyone. I had no gas pain so I was lucky there but I had bad pain for about a week in the incision he took the stomach out of. But in my case he had to go through a 30 year old scar and he said it took him an extra 15 minutes because it was tough. I stayed on the liquid pain medicine every 6 hours and it was bearable. My stomach. Looked like the himalaya mountains from all the Fluid they had put in me. I gained 10 lbs after the surgery but it left again within a week and my stomach was back to normal. That was surgery but now I am 3 months post op and down 52 lbs. I am also 66 years old. You young woman will do so much better. Just remember it is major surgery but it is well worth it. I could never have lost this much weight before. Best of luck to you all. Get r done, LOL. -
Did not use anything I brought except a pair of slip on shoes I wore to the hospital to walk the halls and I was there 2 nights. Best of luck to you.

I have severe neck and spine pain. I need to exercise and it may help the pain but I just keep procrastinating.
