I started this thread almost a year ago. How things change. I have lost a total of 90 lbs with 18 more to go to my personal goal. Went from a size 24 to a 14 and L shirts. Reduced the insulin I was on from 150 units a day to 24 units. A very big improvement. Everything else is fine. I still have great restriction. If you are older go for it. It is possible it will extend your life. My mother and father both died at my age. I am living on borrowed time by heredity. Hopefully by my choice to have this surgery it will make a big difference.

Welcome to onederland! What a wonderful place to be. -
Beware! A long ago friend just had surgery from a dr Ihad gone to a seminar for. He has only been doing this 1 yr. do not know how many he has done. On the table he cut her main artery to her pancreas. Almost bleed out. Had to cut her open from her breast to her navel to find the bleed. Was in ICU for 5 days. On top of that he did not do the sleeve. So she woke up all cut up and did not even get the surgery. Just research whoever you choose. This is so important.

Buy them, you look great. Wear what you want. -
2weeks out is too early for chicken. You should only be eating mushy food. Your stomach will not heal for another 4-6 weeks.

After being stuck in the 190's for months, for some reason I have lost 5 lbs in the past week. I am not complaining. I have not weighed this since I was 23 and. I am 66 now. What a feeling. 18 more lbs to goal.

There is no need for him to suffer. He is a grown man. Tell him sweetly he must plan and prepare his own dinner this year. Next year we will go back to me cooking. I had surgery on Nov 28 last yr. I had the family Thanksgiving 2 weeks ahead of time and it was a joyous day as it would have been on Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving my husband took his mother out to eat and I stayed home alone on my liquid diet. I did not cook for weeks only prepared my own food. A grown man can take care of himself.

Tell your FIL that this surgery is a lifesaver. You are so fortunate to have the opportunity to have this done at such a young age. I had sleeve surgery 2 days after my 66th birthday. Went from a size 22-24 to a 14 pants and L shirts. This is just the cosmetic side. My knees and back no longer hurt daily, no more anti inflamatories. Cholesterol meds are cut in half. Best of all (why I had the surgery) went from 150 units of insulin a day to 30 units and it is under control now A1C was 6.2 last visit to doctor. It was 7.9 before surgery. If you do not have health issues yet this surgery will save you from all this. Not only are you doing this for yourself you are doing this for your little girl. You will be more active with her. Find a way to do this. Just make sure that you research doctors carefully and chose one that is experienced in sleeve surgery preffully at a center of excellence. Best of luck. -
Gotta switch to BYPASS...UGH
mokee replied to GoldyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you mean by your pouch? I presume you are sleeved already. I would get a second opinion before I went thru bypass surgery. -
I had surgery Nov 2012, 2 days after my 66th birthday. I am down 85 lbs. what a treat it is to go shopping in the regular sizes. So many choices now. A lot of knee and back pain are almost non existent. I'm so glad I did this. Diabetes is under control with a lot less insulin. A1C was just 6.2 the other day and I was so happy. Never to late to start your life over.

I am praying for all of you. Best of luck.

7.5 months out ... can I still loose more weight after a bad,bad month ?
mokee replied to Kapu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been at the same weight for 2 months. I tell everyone I know how to maintain LOL. Husband has lung cancer and from the point I found out 5 weeks ago I have been eating all the wrong stuff. Chips ice cream, whatever I could get my hands on. I gained 3 lbs and was very discouraged. This morning I weighed and broke another barrier 189 1/2, a lose of 3 1/2 lbs. the last time I was in the 180's was as a teen. I still have a lot of restriction and can only eat small amounts. We did not gain over night and it is not a race. Best of luck. -
Awesom just awesome. I hope one day I can do as well as you.

Multiple Ab surgeries/recent diagnosis RA
mokee replied to Tonya1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 20 yr old 6 inch scar where they took out my gall bladder. The surgeon took an extra 15 minutes for the sleeve surgery trying to cut thru scar tissue. My pain after surgery was very bad for at least 3 days. It was an 8 when I woke up. -
Feeling like a failure (vent)
mokee replied to ria90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I so know how you feel. Our starting weight and lbs lost are similar. My yr is up in 6 weeks. I am just maintaining. I have that down pat. I had that loose stool for the first 6-7 months. I also want to loose the last 23 lbs. My problem is the carb monster has gotten back in my life. That is why I want to eat. They make you hungry. Best of luck on your journey. We have to succeed. I noticed that you are very young. You are so lucky to have this opportunity to have this tool early in life. Please exercise more and dump the carbs until you get to goal. I am routing for you. -
Read all the posts about lap band and all the problems they have caused. A lot of drs do not do them any more. Who are all that are trying to talk you into lapband. I had the sleeve 10 months ago and am down 85 lbs. I almost had the lapband 3 yrs ago and sure am glad I did not go that route. Research, research. Do not let people that have no idea influence you.
