Swallowing pains n stomach pains
mokee replied to JROD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as the swelling goes down, it is like night and day. I was like you and about 5 days I got up and could drink like I used to. I was very excited. It gets better and better. -
You all may need a PPI, many times that helps. Acid reflux mimics hunger.

With the sleeve when you get to solid food you do get full. You feel restriction with a couple of ozs of food. As long as you do not drink 30 minutes before or30 after and definetly not during a meal. It works very well for me. I am 4 months post op and down 59 lbs. I am very satisfied so far. I looked into the band years ago and am glad I passed it up. Many have so many problems with it.

I just found a place called Nashua Nutrition that sells products that have Protein. I went overboard and ordered over 100 dollars worth last week. It came and I have tried about 6 different things and they are very tasty and high in protein. From pancakes to chips and other Snacks. Do not taste like protein rich like the shakes do. Ash, it will get a lot better. I am 4 months out and down 59 lbs. I am 66 and can not exercise. The beginning is the hardest. It gets better. And better. Best of luck. -
Never used. The card because kids meals are usually fried and junk. I eat an appetizer or soup or eat off of my husbands plate.

What exactly is wrong? How far are you post op? If it is only weeks than you won't feel this way long. Let us help you but we need more info. -
Did not have one? Maybe it has to do with beginning weight. But I weighed 260 morning of surgery.

Setting your goal weight
mokee replied to Robyn Owens-Miille's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well when you get there you can decide. You may want to be smaller ot you may be fine at 160. This is not a problem. Just keep up the good work, you are doing great. -
I was only required to lose 2lbs from my surgeon and I lost 6. Is this the insurance or the drs office request? I had many food funerals the month before surgery. I guess I was a little scared and the thought of never eating the quantity of my favorite foods made me do this. July is a ways off so you can do this. That is 5 lbs a month. Did they say they would not do the surgery if you did not lose 15 lbs by then?

To splurge or not to splurge
mokee replied to dfdscott's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had many food funerals the month before pre op. I wanted to eat all my favorite foods at all my favorite restaurants and I did. But when I started the pre op diet (which mine was 2 weeks) I never cheated once. I am not setting the world on fire but I am 66 and can not exercise and am down 59 lbs in 4 months. Do as you like. It is your life and we never want regrets. -
Very interesting!!

Just put the amount you are supposed to eat on your small plate. Make sure you weigh or measure always. That way you can clean your plate. You are getting sick because you are either eating too much or too fast. I am 4 months post op and I still can not eat frozen yogurt. I ate a tablespoon a couple ago and felt sick for hours. Just taste one of your family's, that is enough anyway at the stage you are. If you can even have that yet. Ask your NUT. The crush you are talking about, is it sugar free? You really can not add sugar even as far out as I am. The head hunger gets better as time goes on. I was a caroholic and now I do not crave them hardly at all. Best of luck to you, follow your NUT plan.

Add a couple hundred cal a day for 2 days and make sure carbs are increased also. Then go back to regular regimen. This works for me. Our bodies are strange indeed. They get used to so little food and shut down. When we feed it it starts to loose again.

6 weeks post op.

Too much or not enough?
mokee replied to cartmansnj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight loss is going to slow down as time goes on. My opinion is you are doing just fine. Next time you go to the dr talk to the NUT and ask her to go over your eating plan and maybe she can help you adjust it if need be. -
Concerned about iron sleeve
mokee replied to Pepper Paul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just don't want you to stretch your sleeve and give it time to heal. You say you feel hunger already. I did not feel hunger for months. Are you eating a lot of carbs? That can make you hungry. If you are doing what they instructed you to do then I guess you are alright. Again best of luck. -
Concerned about iron sleeve
mokee replied to Pepper Paul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The I object is not to see how fast you can drink or how much you can eat at one time. Your sleeve will not be totally healed for 4 more weeks. Measure your food, the amount they told you to eat. Drink slowly and give yourself time to heal. You did not mention if you were hungry yet. If you are eat 2 ozs every couple of hours not all at once. I am 4 months post op and never tried to do what you are doing while my sleeve was healing. Best of luck but read over your instructions again and follow them to a tee especially in the beginning when you are healing. -
14 hours 53min abd 23sec TILL surgery
mokee replied to kooks3003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When they wheeled me in the operating room there were about 15 people all in scrubs waiting for me and I thought I must be having a heart transplant all these people. I got to talking with the anesthesiaologist, a young woman and very nice. I told her, you have but one job MAKE SURE I WAKE UP, I still have a lot of people counting on me. Her response was. "I have to because there is way to much paper work if I don' t". Everyone including myself were laughing and then I was out. Have some fun in there and things will go better. Let me know how many people you have in your OR. There must have been a lot of trainees. One thing I know I never had one gas pain. So one of those people did there job well. -
Oh so true and funny too.

Very good story. Keep up the good work.

Am i missing sonething?
mokee replied to WeightStruggle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was the worst part of the surgery not being able to sip anything or have ice chips for 24 hours before the leak test. I was given some kind of swabs that were moistened with I don't know what but not water to rub on my lips and in my mouth. After the test I was given ice chips. Does any of this sound familiar?
