Sleeved Yesterday 8.9.12, Home Today
cantwaittolose replied to Michele T's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes...I did feel that, but more today than when I first got home. I'm 8 days out. My biggest advice, take the time to heal, love yourself and be gentle....this is your time Each day will bring a different experience, different pains/discomforts and each day is an improvement. I didn't take the pain meds during the day, only at night so I could ensure a good sleep...I hope you have a good sleep! . Day 4 seems to be the turning point for most people, including myself. I think as each of us go through this new journey, you just have to learn what works best for you. All I can say is get in as much liquid as possible....at first you'll think there's no way I can get in all this liquid....and for the first 4-5 days it is nearly impossible, but then you'll wake up one day and it will just go down easier. ]All I know so far, is that each day is a new day and being new at this, I think there's a lot to learn with an open mind and heart I hope tomorrow is a great day for you! Best of luck!!! -
Today Food Seems To Go Down Too Well.
cantwaittolose replied to GoState's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad you posted this....I was just going to ask the same question!!! I'm only 8 days post op and today my teenage boys went to Sonic...I asked them to get me a Cherry Slurpee....YUM.....I thought the slushiness would be a nice change in consistancy between protein shakes (take at least an hour to get down) and water, tea, etc! I ate it with a spoon...poured out the extra cherry syrup....I finished that in about 15 minutes! I'm guess it's not great because of the sugar,(190 cal. 52grams of sugar - I'm hoping that by pouring out most of the Cherry syrup that I took in less sugar). Anyway, afterwards I'm thinking - OMG I just ruined my sleeve - is it still working??? If that can slide down SOOOOO easy with no pain, no full feeling....this isn't going to work!!! I'm sure I didn't ruin anything but I sure can see how you can sabotage early (or at any time) if it were ice cream (which is NOT why I had surgery or any of those slider foods....I was just shocked that this early 8 days I could even put in that much liquid so quickly....good to know from the other posts that when you eat filling protein (which I why it takes a long time for me to get 8-10oz of a shake down) that you do get full quick -
I Just Messed Up I Had Peanuts
cantwaittolose replied to Pparrisss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We all do it, don't stress or beat yourself up too much! I was a 3 week pre-op and had an entire day that I went off...I still lost 17 pounds prior to surgery. So you ate a few things you weren't supposed to, get back to it, you'll be fine. Good luck!!! -
Having A Hard Time Emotionally
cantwaittolose replied to ebthompson2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also 6 days and today is the first day that I've started to think about real food...I am bummed I've got to wait another week to even get to the mushies. This huge change in our lives is super emotional and the fact that we have now taken away the thing we took comfort in - food! I just started reading a book - Beyond the Refrigerator...it's all about the emotional part and the reason we got to where we are/were with food...all comes from the inside; what we really think of ourselves, self respect (or lack thereof), etc. Also another REALLY good book is Women Food and God...this changed my entire perspective. I totally know what you're saying....you know you are down and the time will pass...I hope reading these books or others can shift your frame of mind and maybe the reading will also take up some time!...ive never had so much time on my hands...week off work, kids out of town...I've had to be creative today in being "busy" I hope this helps a little . You'll get through it and in the end be so proud of yourself for fighting through it! -

Hi there I'm 6 days out and today is the first day with no pain/discomfort...I too was taking the Tylenol w/ codine to ensure I had a good sleep but I don't think I'll Ned it tonight....I almost feel back to "normal"! . Each day gets better and each day you'll be able to sip a little more . Good luck amd hope you're doing well!

Yes . I have a dry mouth all the time...I feel like as soon as I put something down I need a sip of water just to quench the thirst... How far out are you? I'm on day 4.

Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
cantwaittolose replied to Birdy18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days out and the 4th day seems to be the magic number day . The only real "problem" I had was the narcotic pain meds in hospital made me so nauseous that I didn't have an ounce of anything for the first 24 hours. once the dr. Switched the meds I went home and yes, uncomfortable and sore, your tummy is very bloated and keep in mind you've had surgery! . It did take me until today to be able to get fluids down without pain...it's not like it's pain that you (or at least me) cry about, you just feel it, wait a few mins and try again. I was struggling to get fluids down and then All of a sudden this afternoon it doesnt bother me at all anymore... I I've slept good every night I've been home and I have taken the prescribed Tylenol with codine so I can sleep comfortably. I look forward to sleeping on my side soon . I also had a hernia repaired so not sure if that has anything to do with the delay in getting liquid down comfortably. I think the biggest thing to remember is that it is surgery, there is going to be some pain/uncomfort or even things you haven't felt before. this is the first surgery I've ever had so a lot of unknowns for me. I've been very patient with myself and truly giving my body the rest it needs. . I hope you are able to do the same and have the best experience possible. Good luck! -

Hopefully Going Home In The Morning
cantwaittolose posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All Surgery was Thursday....there's no other way to say it...it was misery. For almost 24 hours I was in horrible pain and couldn't get ANYTHING down, not even the littlest sip of water....I was beyond nauseous... the gas-x strips and mouthspray would also make me throw up....not that there anything to throw up....but mouth would water and I'd dry heave. I reacted this way to the littlest thing touching my lips or in my mouth. I kept telling my nurse how miserable I was along with horrible pain in my stomach....She would say, it could be the pain medication that's making you nauseous...ok, so I stopped pushing my pain meds. She comes in later and says how's your pain? I said horrible and she says " well that's because you aren't using your pain medication!". Well duh! I made her call my doc at 1am. He came in early this morning and said, let's change the meds. It was a miracle! Within 20 mins I was able to sip water, Ice chips and broth and have been feeling good ever since. They had me stay 1 more night. Its amazing how the wring pain killer (for me) can make you So Miserable. I'm a different person today and so happy to be feeling good. -

Three Questions About Vsg...
cantwaittolose replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to jump through any insurance hoops. My BMI was very high at 50 when I met with doctors and insurance approved same day. The doctors I went to is a 1 stop shop. I went in for the consult and in same day did all tests, psych, insurance approval and scheduled my surgery date...which is now tomorrow! (it was scheduled 7 weeks ago) My dr. put me on 3 week pre-op because I have so much to lose. I have not had to supply my insurance.(Blue Cross PPO) with anything. I had to go back to dr. For more blood work, endoscopy procedure and then pre-op dr. Appointment. I think my experience has been easier than most in dealing with insurance...I've been very lucky. Best of luck in your process! -
I Have Reached The Stage Where People Don't Recognize Me!
cantwaittolose replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
16W is for Women's....which means it's larger for a "woman" than a regular size 16. If you shop at Lane Bryant (or similar store) which I'm sure most of us ladies do or have shopped there....all of their clothes are W's. I remember when I started putting on the weight....I could still fit into a size 16 Lane Bryant but I could not fit into any "regular" store 16's...and so it began 10 years ago!!! I am so excited to read these posts and KNOW that I can get back to the old me. I can't wait for people not to recognize me! ...for being skinny and not fat....I went through that too...that is horrible. CowgirlJane - you inspire me!!!!! -
Surgery Tomorrow.... Pre-Op Torture
cantwaittolose replied to Sherry77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best of luck....wishes for speedy recovery and all good things post-sleeve! . I'm this week (Thursday)! Please post updates and keep us all posted! -
I've been on the pre-op diet for 2 weeks, 1 more week to go....surgery in 7 days! I was so glad to find this post! I've been doing pretty good, down 12 pounds so far, but yesterday - it all went out the window!!!! It was my son's birthday and I had chips, soda, 2 bites of b-day cake, 1 piece of pizza (that was all in the middle of the day), then 1/2 bag of movie popcorn and another sode at the movies! Now, I will say that the portions of only having a few bites and 1 piece of pizza vs. what I would have normally had is a HUGE difference.....BUT I still ate all of the really bad food. I'm hoping with 7 days left it won't effect me....fingers crossed! Yesterday I felt like I just wanted to enjoy the day...but I'll tell you my stomach was not ready for all that bad food...I paid for it last night! It was yesterday and I'm trying to move on and not beat myself up so much.....anybody not only cheat a little but go off the pre-op that you had problems with surgery? or Dr. said "I know you didn't follow the pre-op diet!"

Question About Pre-Op Liquid Diet
cantwaittolose replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can look up (Google) pre-op diet for gastric sleeve surgery....it's all about shrinking your "fatty" liver....what I've read is that overweight people have fatty livers and because the dr. has to go under the liver that it helps the surgery go easier if you lose some weight prior....the liquid diet 4 days before is probably to empty your stomach as well. If you Google it will also mention the liquids....you want sugar-free everything. Sugar turns to fat when it's not used (just like simple carbs) so they want to lose weight, no gain it hope that helps!!! -
