Well I called my coordinator today to find out what was going on and of course it went straight to voicemail so I called cigna to find out and they said I was denied so I asked why and she said I was denied because services has to be done at a contracted bariatric center of excellence and i asked was there any other reasons and the lady said no it was denied right away and my file wasn't looked into any further???? so I was like WHAT!!! and I said yes they are...Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center has been designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), which means we have met the independent and rigorous requirements established by the ASMBS. The ASMBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable patient outcomes in bariatric surgery(paste this section from there web site) so i told her to look it up and that my doctor is Chief of Elective General Surgery for the medical school Department of Surgery. He is also the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery for the Memorial Hermann Hospital-TMC. she said she couldn't do anything else and to contact by dr. office so i did and my coordinator voicemail said to leave a message and she will get back within 24 hours. It has me just mad..you spend all that time to meet their requirments spend all that money for the out of pocket expenses and they tell you no right away and then you can't get any answers from the dr. office because the only person who has the answers doesn't call you back. I mean she didnt send a paper with a leader head stating they are a center of excellence or stamped it or whatever they use to identify that they are So for those of you who do have cigna were you denied the first time and if so how many time's did you have to resubmit to get that approval...I need to call cigna to see if there is a limit on how many times you can resubmit before they say denied for a final time. sorry so long

Issues Contacting Insurance Coordinator
ButterflyAMT06 replied to EMR83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep..same problem here called her today to find out if my info was sent in and went straight to voicemail so i called cigna and found out that i was denied called my coordinator back and went straight to voicemail again with a message she will return phone calls after 24 hours well i dont want to wait 24 hours i want to know now and why cigna is saying they are not a contracted bariatric center of excellence when they are and cigna didn't even finish looking at my file....I mean did she forget to submit a paper or info stateing this or what but im going to keep calling and leaving messages until she calls me back and gives me answers or i will go up in person if i have to and talk to someone i mean come on i didn't spend all this time and money just to be left in the dark and when was she going to let me know i was denied?? So yes call cigna and tell them you want to find out the status..they can tell you if they receive anything so at least you will know where you stand....good luck -

Hi everyone this is my first post been lurking around soaking all the info. in and writing so much done. This is my last month on the 6 month weight management the insurance requires and i have to make a decision on what procedure i want the sleeve or the RNY. I've been looking at so many video's on YouTube and bouncing back and forth between this sight and the RNY Forums but there is one thing i've notice and I'm probaly wrong but I haven't come across someone who has lost more than 120 to 130 pounds on the sleeve as far as females goes even at 2 to 3 years out. I also notice after about 9 months to a year the weight loss slows down alot. I would like to lose about 145 - 150 pounds so is it possible to lose that much??? At first i was leaning towards the RNY because you can lose the weight fast but the more i look into it I'm starting to say sleeve. RNY is scary and i know everyone is different and not everyone has complications but its seems well on YouTube that alot of people have some type of a complication and there always in the hospital and there intenstines get all twisted up all the pills they have to take and some go to the extreme and lose to much and look sick...and there's the hair loss and thats something I know about I do lose hair but its not noticable I had thyroid cancer back in 2002 had a total thyroidectomy with lympth nodes and radiation so since then I've been losing hair side effect of the medication i have to take everyday so i don't want to go bald lol. So that's my question is it possible to lose up to 145 to 150 pounds....sorry so long. Thanks stats 40 yrs. 5'3' CW 300
