    Stressed The Bleep Out

Got a call from my primary doctor last week about the blood test she required before she would sign off on the surgery and the results showed abnormalities. WTH does that mean? She couldn't tell me over the phone so I made an appointment to see her Wednesday. Hopefully it's nothing but now I'm sitting here thinking of every possible thing that would stop me from having surgery. I'm trying to be positive but geez really people don't tell me something is wrong then make me wait a week before I know whats going on. And on top of that I was hoping to have the surgery in August but what if I'm never able to have it! What if I'm never able to be the person I was supposed to be?

    Lapband And Diabetes?

My primary doctor had me get tested for diabetes (waiting results) and thyroid issues before she will sign off on lapband. She said that if I have diabetes it wouldn't disqualify me from getting the lapband, it would help and that normally weight lose helps with it.

    Step 1 And 2

So proud of myself right now! Just got done with our monthly birthday breakfast at work where everyone brings in food for the birthday folks that month. Todays menu included: eggs, grits, apple fritters, donuts, hash browns, strawberries, cantalope, ham, and other very sweet (and fattening)food. Instead of having everything my heart desired I pulled out my Iphone and got on myfitnesspal app to figure out the calories for everything I thought I needed to eat. reduced the amount and eliminated some foods then I got in line and made my plate & stuck with the food I had chosen on the app. No donuts or apple fritters for me! nope none at all. Then one of the ladies asks me in front of everyone when my surgery date was. Keep in mind I've only told 3 people at work so it was kinda on the down low. Though I planned on telling the world once I got a surgery date. well her question prompted another lady to ask what kind of surgery and before I know it we're all talking about calories and lap band. It went much better than what I hoped. No one had anything negative to say except that it was going to be a BIG change. Not sure everyone agreed with my decision but when I told them about how my back hurt after walking from the parking lot to my office they seemed to understand why I'm ready for this BIG change. So I'm back at my desk saying a little prayer...lord please let telling everyone be that easy and lord if you have time please hide those remaining donuts and apple fritters from me cause I hear them calling my name. amen.

  12. Ok so I'm sitting at my desk playing on the computer and I have a bag of Lays Keetle Cooked Original Potato chips laying beside the mouse. I've been munching on them pretty much the whole day and I know they were supposed to be for the boys but somehow they've landed on my desk when suddenly I realize the bag is almost empty. At first I think maybe the boys have gotten into my stash but then I remember I've been eating some just about every time I've sat down. I immediately trash them but feel so bad. and maybe even a little bloated... I've been doing pretty good about cutting the junk out of my diet in order to be better prepared for surgery (hopefully in August) but today seemed to drag on and on and I was so bored. Why do I do this to myself? Am I really that addicted to food that I didn't even realize I was stuffing my face with not only horrible food but I wasn't even hungry. Will my will be better after surgery? So many questions in my disfunctional head. . . I know I want to do this but what if I can't? What if this addiction is stronger than me?

My Surgery Date Is Aug 16Th!

I haven't been banded yet but my sister has and she's given me a few pointers. For instance, stock up on protein shakes, gas x, broths, start taking multivitamins, calcuim and biotin (if you fear hair loss after surgery) start watching your calorie and sugar intake. MyFitnessPal is a wonderful tool for this. My dietician also recommended watching how quickly i eat. I think she said ever meal should take 15 minutes to complete. Not sure if that was solids or every stage. Last but not least CHEW CHEW CHEW! Hope this helps.

    Cancer.....

Several years ago, I lost my granny to colon cancer and my father-in-law to nonhodgkins lymphoma so I have an idea what you must be going through. Try to stay strong through this difficult time. Also, have you contacted your local American Cancer Society Relay for Life. They are a wealth of information about the desease and can give you ideas on how to cope with the situation. They even have whats called a "Road to Recovery" program where they find drivers to take patients to their appointments. I just can't say enough about the programs they offer for not only you but also your Dad. I'm on the board so if you have any questions feel free to ask and best wishes to your Dad and yourself.

  19. So excited about life right now and all the joys my future has to offer! I contribute this happiness mostly to my decision to have lap band surgery. I'm not naive enough to think this is an easy solution to my weight problem but I am hopeful enough to think of it as one BIG step to being the person I was meant to be. I have been on this site pretty much nonstop for a couple of months now and have learned so much. Everyone is so helpful and understanding. We're like one great big happy lap band family. :DAnd everyone knows its a glorious thing when family comes together. If everything goes well and Cigna approves me, it looks like I'll be an August bandster! can't wait to be in pain, can't wait to be in gas hell, can't wait to hate protien shakes, can't wait to exercise without pain, can't wait to not think about food all day, can't wait to get this party started!
  20. I've been preparing my family for the after surgery food intake. I've told them that we ALL will be eating healthier and living more active lives after mommy heals. My 14 yo son, thats the healthiest of all of us, threatened several times to move in with his Nana. I explained that its not really that big of a change since I'll be preparing alot of the food we already eat just in a healthier way and I'll be eating smaller portions. I think he's on board now.
  21. My surgery isn't until November but after reading alot of the posts on here I decided to start cutting back on my soda intake and hoping to be completely weened from caffeine by August. In doing so maybe it won't be so hard when i start the liquid diet. As of yesterday I had a total of 16.9 ounces and at first it tasted good but by the end my stomach was not liking it at all. i had to force myself to finish it. Probably doesn't seem like a big deal for alot of folks but for a person that normally drinks nothing but soda and tea all day everyday its a big deal. Felt a little bloated last night too and the headache was mild... Is this normal? Is there some way I can make the Water taste better without adding sugars? Someone suggested lemon but I dont really like the lemon taste. I also bought flavored water (tangerine) but it left an after taste. I really want this to work so any help would be great. Thanks.

So Much Water I'm Floating Away

its been a little over a month ago since I posted this and I must say I have almost completely eliminated soda from my life. There has been a couple of times when i grap the soda before water then take a few sips and wonder why I did that but during this whole time I think I've had probably 2 20oz sodas. This mostly happens at work though. I have found that I dont like soda as much anymore and I take my water plain but it has to be super cold. I figure once I can get used to peeing what seems like every half hour I'll be golden Thanks everyone for the advice.
