  1. I'm a teacher and have put in for a two week leave. My administration was totally fine with that and I just have to submit the required paperwork. I then will be back for one week (can we say LOTS of showing educational movies) and then will be home again for Spring Break. good luck =)
  2. I'm a teacher and I just put in for my two week leave. I have to use my sick days, which luckily I have enough, and then submit paperwork from the surgeon saying I need the recovery time. I then have to submit a second note when I return saying it's safe for me to return to my job. All jobs are different but it seems that it would be a no brainer that you could have recovery time in such a large corporation. Good luck =)

    Seriously Embarrassed !

You are not alone. Funny thing is though that thin people also fall and break things (because they are made faulty) and we blame ourselves that being fat is the reason. And I agree with tiny1234....better to laugh than to cry. Good luck =)

I will TOTALY read yours and I hope you check mine out too!! It's also on my signature, but just in case... www.mybandemonium.blogspot.com I am being banded on 3/4 and this has been my documentation thus far since I made my big decision almost a year ago.

    How to Sleep After...

I am a back or side sleeper, and also sleep with a cpap machine....so I will have to sleep in bed or move my equipment....I learned from my first c-section to my second to use a travel pillow to get more comfortable on your back after surgery. I was really okay after both of those surgeries very quickly so I'm hoping this one 3/4 will be easy too. Good luck everyone =)

Did you get your sex drive back?

I am 100 lbs. overweight (getting banded on 3/4) and have now and have always had a very high libido. Right now working full time, two kids, etc, we are at about 3-4 times a week....I joked with my husband to "watch out" when I lose the weight I am going to be unbearable in a good way I too went through a phase where I felt too fat and ugly for sex and after about a year, I saw a therapist who helped me seperate my negative feelings with sex. YES...I am overweight....YES...I need to lose weight...YES...I will look and feel better when the weight is gone.......BUT YES....my husband still wants to have sex with me and the connection is super important so just GO FOR IT! Good luck =)
  9. I am three weeks from being banded, and will start my pre-op on Feb 18th so technically I have one week left as "the old me." I'm just curious what you would say was your one regret from before you were banded (I'm not talking about the band being a regret, I'm talking about wishing you had _[fill in the blank]___ one last time before the band) or what you are glad you made time for before your banding. I'm so excited my mind is racing right now!!! I don't want to forget anything!

Pain- not sure what to think

Yikes! Yes, you do want to focus on protien, but maybe pureed beef isn't the right way to go yet.I just ordered a supply of UNJURY protien mixes online and hope to add them to pureed fruits and vegetables, soups, etc. I'm not even banded yet but I know I am going to need emotional support the first time meat goes down the hatch!! Good luck =)

    Question - Beware Fairly Personal

Thanks for being so frank Terry...that's just what we need! I too wonder about how intimacy will be impated but I have reason to believe the pros will still GREATLY outweight the cons and if that means a little port tenderness I'll take it. There are so many things I was able to do when I wasn't obese that I am missing so much and there are some intimacy things on that list as well! Good luck every body!

    Protein shake flavorings and recipes?

I will be banded on Mar 4 and I actually ordered the started kit from unjury protien online. My plan is to add this to fruit smoothies, ice coffee, soups, etc. to make them "liquid meals". I hadn't thought about sugar free syrup in protien shakes....a good idea too, I'll have to look into that!

First Fill at 7 wks Postop

Wow! That is inspiring. I am going to be banded on Mar 4 (start my pre-op) on Feb 18 and am only starting about 5 lbs less than you so I hope I have the same results!! Good luck on your journey and keep up the good work =)

    Pre-op cheating

We all make mistakes. I'm willing to bet that if you only cheated one time and it's still a few days away, you will be okay. Having patients ONLY ingest liquids for two weeks is completely unrealistic in my oppinion. I start my pre-op on Feb 18 and I am going to be drinking two shakes from the hospital, and one small "grocery meal" that I can prepare myself like an eggwhite omlet or soup. I am very releived by this, which I know I can do. That being said....I plan on gorging at our neighborhood hibachi buffet the night before this starts!! LOL!! Good luck, you are not alone.

    6 month diet bomb!

I would be frustrated too. I had to do my supervised 6 month diet before I was even allowed to see the surgeon, and I finally got my date 3/4 after 10 MONTHS of appointments and paperwork. Hang in there, better late than never is how I looked at it. The supervised diet was just for recording and documentation purposes. I neither gained nor lost when I was on this diet, just went through the motions. Because I followed all the rules, my band will covered by my insurance, so I get a whole new life, and no debt to take with me there. Good luck, yes it is very frustrating at times, you are not alone!!

For sure! I have been on this website for months waiting to get my date so I could find people that will be on the same "schedule" as me...I think it's good to see how other people are doing it gives you perspective =)

    incision at port not healing

OMG that sounds like a nightmare. I hope you get the help you need and i agree with the above comment, maybe you should look into a different surgeon!

    Considering the "Advise of Others"

I have been on this forum for almost a year now, since I first went to my PCP to start my application....9 1/2 months later I finally have my surgery date 3/4/13! I too come to this site for the "quick" answers to questions I have had....the answers from my wls peers that are also going through the same things when I'm just curious about something while browsing late at night. I take the advice as it is, and then follow the specific directions I have been given by my own surgical team. I have also noticed in the past year that many of those who have specific questions are self-pay, Mexico patients, or otherwise get a lap band and then never return to a surgery center. ( I am not discounting these patients, just stating an observation.) I am lucky enough to be going through a major hospital in Chicago, with insurance coverage, and am having my hand held throughout the process. I can call someone any time of day, and have an assigned nutritionist, excersice specialist, etc. just for my surgeoen's bariatric patients. Not everyone has this luxury, although we all need answers sometimes. So I say ask what you want and get the answers you want, or don't. Respond to what you can, or don't. If someone is ignorant enough to this life-changing, drastic surgery and wants to follow the advice of someone they don't even know, it's their choice. Good luck to everyone...you are my people and I could never have made it this far without you!!

    The Perfect "ME" Day!

    Surgery Scheduled for March

Hi! I got my date today and it's March 4!! I haven't started a pre-op yet....waiting to get a packet in the mail now is my next step. I do know that I will do two protien shakes a day and one protien bar (mandatory purchesed from the hospital) and one small meal on my own protien/veg. I started my journey last April so I am so excited to finally have a date!! Good luck and let's be sure to keep in touch =)

I say why eat what you don't like? Try low-fat ricotta instead? Or even Greek Yogurt?

    I'm not alone, am I?

I, just like you, am a drive thru junkie. What I have been doing to prepare for my band is strategizing what i will NEED to do after I have my band. Here are some of my ideas I can share with you if you are interested. 1. Buy a "magic bullet" smoothie maker so that I can throw ingredients in in the morning and it already becomes a travel mug for my lunch. 2. keep an insulated bag in my car filled with band friendly foods. (be prepared AHEAD of time so I won't need the drive thru!) 3. Keep packets of instant soup in my glove compartment to mix with hot water at work. 4. keep a list in the car of things I can have from each place and making them my staples (like wendy's chili, McD's parfait, etc.) 5. Keep protien powder in the car, my purse, etc. to mix with ice coffee or other sugar free drinks in a pinch. (check out unjury.com) Good Luck!!

    Pulmnologist?

I was really freaked out going into this exam....it turned out to be very simple. I wrote a whole post about it on my blog called "just breathe" you should check it out. To no one's surprise then had to go to the sleep study and have sleep apnea and am now on a breathing mask. I have to do this treatment for at least 30 days before I can go back for the clearance I need which is 1/8/13. It's just been so much, this journey but I have faith it will be well worth it. Good luck!
