I'm not a doctor, but I do know that caffeine did not make me fat, overeating did. That being said even though I have been "reccomended" to not have coffee except for decaf, I do have my regular coffee, only one cup and not every day either. Everything in moderation!! (and my band is the moderation LOL) Good Luck =)

That is definatly more strict than my diet, and unfortunatly I do believe you should follow the diet of YOUR surgeon and no body else's. That being said, I think it's okay to have some things in moderation. If you have milk once a week I doubt it will hurt you. We all got fat from overeating, not because we had skim milk or soup here and there. But again, I am just a patient too and not a nutritionist. Good luck!!

Low carb, high protein MUSHY foods?
ChicagoRose replied to lilmispcl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
canned chicken and tuna have been my best friends! I liked to take a box of Green Giant veggies and lite sauce (divided by 2...1/2 cup servings) and then 2-3 oz of canned chicken or tuna. I also bought some soups with beef, chicken, etc. dumped the Water and grinded those as well for a quick and easy lunch. Egg beaters, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and fat free refried Beans are now staples as well. Good luck =) -
remembering to eat every few hours
ChicagoRose replied to carley0303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I'm also on three meals a day to total one cup of protien and vegetable, and two snacks. At first it seemed like way to much but this week I'm getting HUNGRY!! I could easily eat two cups now but am trying to stay focused. My first fill is Friday so hopefully it helps me =) Good luck to you ....we can do this!! -
Whoo hoo! At my initail consult I met with a nurse for background health information, a nutritionist to know what to expect, and the surgeon who gave me all my options. I was then given a long list of "To Dos' that took three months to complete (psych, sleep study, labs, etc.) I am proof that this is possible!! Good luck =)

Four weeks out and I am in what I believe you guys have been warning about "Bandster Hell" I am having a horrible time sticking to my diet rules, am hungry all the time, and am justifying mashing a cheeto to dust in my mouth as a puree food. UGH! Help! (I wrote my blog on this very thing FYI if you are interested to hear the whole ordeal) (Next appointment Friday!! Should get my first fill =)

Nine dsys post op port poking me still
ChicagoRose replied to balbuquerque's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also never had a poking feeling, but if I'm sitting too long, especially kinda bent over like at a table, I have soreness when I straighten my body back up. Every day is better and better though. Be sure to ask at your next post-op and good luck =) -
I agree with everyone above....take it day by day. My concern is that you are eating until you feel sick each time and that scares me. Maybe if you know you will be tempted to keep eating, try and measure out your 1 cup of food and bring only that to the table? Or do a re-set and start with mashed foods for a few days agian? Hang in there!

I have a bowl that goes with my dish set that is small, maybe for salad, that I know I can fill and that's my portion. I did measure it out with Water to be sure and it's a one cup bowl. I know that if I eat out of it I can relax, and I have also been using some old baby spoons and forks from when my kids were little. Everything helps, nothing wrong with eating out of measuring equipment if it works!! FYI...my nutritionist told me to not be so concerned with cals, carbs, etc. and just be sure I'm eating my portion and protiens and vegetables. Very hard on me mentally, I feel like if I don't count, I wont lose!!

The scale moved!! The scale moved!! Hmmm....once again reaffirms that I need to only WEIGH ONCE A WEEK...which is impossible for me to do but still. Had I just weighed today instead of every day this week multiple times I wouldn't have gotten so frustrated. Hand in there everyone...good things are coming your way!
-
I also have been taking it slow, but listening to my body has helped with that. I am feeling better and better every day. Also, my nutritionist has me on protien and vegetables but NO potatoes, corn and peas because they are starches so I havn't even had mashed potatoes yet! That might end on Sunday for Easter though LOL. Good luck =)

Stuck already? 7days post op
ChicagoRose replied to braziliangirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! Isn't it wonderful to actually feel full from a little bit of solid food? The first time I ate a full cup of mush I too felt full and freaked out, so you are totally normal. As I go, I am almost four weeks out, I am really learning more and more about my body and it's cues. Good luck!! -
Hmmm...I'm pretty brave with home remedies myself but this sounds like a not so good idea. You don't want your incisions to get infected, especially your port incision, and just like the others i'm suprised to hear you have traditional stiches over your wounds. If you can't make it back to your surgeon just yet, at least go to your local primary care doc and have them do it. It's too early to have complications!! Good luck!

Yeah!! You can do it!!

I was confused also when I first started puree because the word to me sounded like jarred baby food. Actually I explain it more like anything that you can mash with a fork, or really don't have to chew before you swallow, so yes, I also eat A LOT of tuna, chicken, and egg salad. Just kinda mash the eggs with a fork when you are mixing it and use lite mayo or greek yogurt. My other staple is I keep lots of cans of Campbell's soups on hand, drain the water, and make a mash with that since it is already cooked and soft. Good luck =0)

Trust me...I'm trying and eating to my nutritionists specifications with protein and vegetable three times a day up to a cup of food. I'm only three weeks out she said its plenty not to worry I'm not supposed to eat when I'm not hungry or get my restriction signal.
-
I am three weeks post op today and am bouncing between two pounds...still eating practically nothing, trying to get my liquids in, just staying positive that things will get moving down again soon. Good luck everyone =)

I'm confused about portion size...help?
ChicagoRose replied to lilmispcl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am now on purée and just emailed my nutritionist the same thing! She said that purée like liquid is a slider so up to a cup should be fine but listen to your body....sometimes a heartier purée 1/2 cup is just fine!! Good Luck -
