    Hi All! Newbie Here

Jwaller, I'm a newbie too. Luckily for me, my doc isn't going to put me on a liquid diet (*sigh* of relief) but I am going on a cal restriction until my surgery on the 8th of January. I don't mind the premier chocolate shake--you can get little predone packs at costco. I'm not going to lie, they they aren't fantastic but I can manage them. I haven't tried the vanilla yet. But a girl can't make it on chocolate and vanilla alone long term so, I'm looking for good Protein shake options myself. Good luck to you!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

My surgery is scheduled for Jan 8th too!!!! Don't plan on going buck wild food wise for the holidays but I didn't want to be recovering with family around and seasonal activities. Good luck on your surgery. :-)
  3. I'm still in the authorization stage, so my surgery date hasn't been schedule yet but I totally get you on "last supper" thoughts. I have them too, and I'm not even to my preop diet yet. I'm committed though and just have to believe that it will be all worth it to avoid the health consequences that are on the horizon from carrying this heavy of weight. Plus, remember the liquid and soft food diets are temporary. Eventually things will "normalize." I keep telling myself that when that does happen for me, I hope I will better appreciate the food I do get to eat and be happy about how much healthier I am at the same time. Good luck!

    Need Good Reading Suggestions

Cute romantic comedies by Katie MacAlister's Corset Diaries, Improper English, and Hard Days Knight. I re-read them occasionally I still find myself laughing.
  5. I'm still just in the info gathering stage to figure out if the lap band would be a good idea for me...I'm going to my first informational session tonight and was wondering if folks had any suggested questions. Are there any questions that you would suggest, that you wished you asked at your first session? Thanks.
  6. Well, worry more about your recovery than me! Just when you get a chance. :-) I'm sure you're procedure will go great.
  7. That's why I'm leaning towards the band too. I like the fact that the band and the sleeve don't involve re-routing my intestines which is why I was shying away from bypass, but...like you, what if something goes wrong with the sleeve? That and the "newness" give me pause. The surgeon who presented did say that he sees some bands that have to be removed after 5+ years because of rejection of the hardware by the body and other complications. I can't help but think that's 5 years of getting some of this weight off, and if there is a problem, I have another procedure (or two) I can fall back on. I hope your procedure goes well. If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know how things go.
  8. First and foremost, thank you everyone who's responded to this. Like I said, I'm in the beginning stages of trying to work this whole thing out so any and all suggestions are appreciated! Momof3inOC, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This list is awesome. The general orientation was last night, and it covered in a very general way the steps they require before getting to surgery--nutrition, psyc eval, starter help with navigating insurance, as well as info about three procedures they do--sleeve, bypass, and band. It was clear that when the surgeon was presenting he favors the procedures in that order too. I'm definately going to take this list with me for my one on one consult (if I get one...still working out the insurance questions) when we discuss which procedure will work best for me.
  9. Hello, I'm new to this forum...this is actually my first post. I'm just in the beginning stages of researching lap banding and if it is an option for me. I'm going to an informational seminar put on by a local hospital near me in a couple of weeks. I'm also going to be talking to my primary care physician to see what she knows and to help me determine if my insurance will cover the procedure. My question at this point is...Are there any good books about lap banding that people recommend? Right now I'm thinking mostly about books that cover Pre and Post Op; Biographical books by people who've had the procedure done; and Cookbooks; but any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Thank you Grandma3 and NWGirl. I'll definately check it out. :-)
  11. Mocha Lala, I saw the Emotional First Aid Kit...it looks like some people love it, and as always there's some that really didn't care for it. If you get it, please let me know what you think. :-)
