  1. After having the band fail me in 04 due to infection I had it re-done on May 24th this year. I am still on week 3 of mushy food and have lost some 16lbs which is great. I didn't even feel hungry the first couple of weeks, which was fab....but now....I am sooo hungry. This mush is not sustaining me and I am suppose to be on it for 3 + more weeks. Has anybody else felt hungry during the 'recovery' period? I was thinking about taking some appetite suppresants until my first fill next month as I am just grazing on everything, good and bad. I am surprised, but I can eat anything. I understand and can separate the difference between habit eating and just pure hunger...and I am hungry : ( Please tell me after my first fill this hunger will go away. I am very weak and can't handle hunger.
  2. Here I am again 4 years later, much heavier and wondering what my options are. I had the lapband 4 years ago and ended up havign to have it removed 2 weeks later as my port incision got an infection which was spreading and making it difficult for me to breath. My doctor rushed me in to surgery and removed it straight away. He said that antibiotics would not be able to clear up the infection around the port as the port is plastic and the drug would not clear that part up (is this true?). Apparently I was the first case in thousands of patients he had treated who had this happen. I was truly heartbroken and $20,000 out of pocket. I had not planned on having to pay again to have it removed.... I guess a lot of folks don't think about the what ifs. Anyway....many diets later, heavier and a move to the States and 2 kids later I am back here....contemplating doing it all again. Would love to hear from people who have been in the same boat and have had it done again. What happened? Are you o.k. now? Was another surgeon willing to 'touch you' what with your failed attempt? My big fear is that maybe my body just doesn't want to accept this foreign object in my body. Does anybody ever think like that? On the flip side if all this didn't happen and it worked out I probably would not have fallen pregnant with my 1st child soon after. Am very conflicted. Also isn't slippage a huge factor with the lapband? Doesn't that mean more money to doctors to open you up again? Helen:confused_smile:

    Infected?

I had bad luck and caught an infection where the port was. It kinda looked like your pic but was red and angry looking, which yours isn't. It hurt to touch and eventually even to breath. I eventually had to be rushed in to surgery and have it removed so to be on the safe side please keep harassing your doctor. it's not a laughing matter. Good luck........

Port site pain 1 month post-op

It is probably nothing but I would still give your doctor a call and mention it. Is it painful to the touch? Red and sore? is there any puss? You don't want to hang around if it's an infection. You want to catch it early on. Good luck
  5. Hi all, Am new to site, which was recommended to me by a U.K. based weight loss surgery website. Looks like I am crossing over the pond and will be moving to the States (Atlanta, GA) next year. I am scheduled to have the Lap band in England in January 04 and am not sure what to do. Am considering now having the banding in the US and it looks as though will have to foot the bill myself although I haven't a clue what the cost is approx in the States. Can anybody shed some light or maybe a link? Do you think it is possible I just have fills in the US and the surgery in the UK? Anybody know the cost of a fill everytime you go? Your help is greatly appreciated. Warmest regards
