Pre surgery diet is working!
Yukon Kara replied to Yukon Kara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Felicia! So my pre-op diet is not a liquid one! I am on 1600 calories a day, but very high Protein and only 40g of carb a day. No fruit, no caffeine, no pop, no sugar, no, no, no! Glad to hear you are having such success!! -
I am originally from BC too! I grew up near Dawson Creek, went to University in Prince George and then another year of University in Castlegar (remote UBC program). I am now living in Faro (4 hours NE of Whitehorse). We have lived in the NWT and also in a fly in only community in Nunavut too. My boys are 2 and a half and 4! Where are you having your surgery at? We decided to go private clinic b/c the wait lists are so long. But the only private clinic doing the sleeve in Canada is all the way out in Montreal. Much too far to travel. So I found a clinic in Washington! Much closer. I started my pre-surgery diet at 319 and am down 8lbs so far. I have been overweight my entire life. This is going to be quite the change!

Yukon Kara replied to Soon2BMiniMommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my... I have no clue where those places are!! Are they in Washington?? Sorry, I live in a remote community up in the Yukon Territory (far, far north!!) -
Hi Ronda! I will be going in for my sleeve on the 19th. I am 32, have two little boys and I live in a remote community in the Yukon. My husband is a nurse, so I get the benefit of some good medical care at home after my surgery! Your husband is going to be some surprised when he returns! How long will he be deployed for? Kara

OCTOBER 2011 SLEEVE ROSTER

Hello! I will be going in for surgery on the 19th at Puget Sound Surgical Center in Seattle! Add me to the list! -
Today was the first day of my pre-surgery diet. My surgery is scheduled for October 19th at the Puget Sound Surgical Centre down in Seattle. I live in the far north, Yukon Territory so I will be traveling a ways for this surgery. First day has been killer! My diet is 1600 calories and with only 40g of carbs. I have 3 more hours until I go to bed and I know this is going to be the tough part!

Pre-surgery diet started today!
Yukon Kara replied to Yukon Kara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning! I am using myfitnesspal as well. What an easy to use site to track everything! I tried to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible yesterday. I also tried to keep my hands busy by sewing, reading books and chasing after my two little boys. But the evening was so hard! My husband has to travel for work this week and I know I am going to struggle. I see a lot of early bedtimes in my future! -
My name is Kara and I will be having my VSG surgery on the 19th of October at the Puget Sound Surgical Centre in Washington State. I live in the Yukon Territory, Canada in a small remote community of just 400 people. My husband and I have been married for the last eights years and we have two young boys, aged 2 and 4. We have lived all across Canada's northern territories over the last eight years. I just turned 32 this month. Currently I weigh 316lbs and have been obese my entire life. I spent the winter researching weight loss surgeries after feeling like I had tried everything for weight loss as I am sure most of you have felt at one point in time. I settled on VSG and found the closest centre to my home in the Yukon, which is still a heck of a long ways away down in Seattle. Going outside of Canada to have my surgery means that we are paying for the entire surgery and associated costs on our own. Thankfully we are in a position where we can do that. My husband is a nurse in our remote community that does get doctor visits a couple of weeks each month. I worked as an Adult Educator for colleges around the north before deciding to stay at home to raise our boys. We spend a lot of time hunting, fishing, quadding and camping. My mobility in is definitely lacking when it comes to my favorite activities and I want to be around for a long time. Right now I have no extreme health issues normally associated with obesity, but I know that I am right on the cusp of them taking over my life. Tomorrow I will be starting my pre-surgery diet plan and am scared, nervous and excited all at the same time for how my life will change this fall. I would love to hear from anyone out there, especially if there is anyone on here from Canada or northern Canada! Please share your stories or advice; it would all be appreciated. I am looking forward to checking out this forum and hoping it will help enhance my VSG experience! Kara And I have attached a photo of myself from our family hunting trip from early this September. Check out that snow!
