    Full Liquids

I am three days post-op and doing very well! Today is my second day of full liquids. So far I have been able to tolerate some yogurt and chocolate Protein drink made with milk. I am hoping to try some creamy Soup later today. I am in love with chicken broth; I am sure it is just the salt content that is making it taste so darn great! I am on a liquid Vitamin and oh man it is disgusting! But I choke it down followed by a bit of apple juice. What is everyone else sipping on?

    Recovering

I am walking a bit too and that really helps with the gas. I am finding it hard to drink too. A sip just a bit too big gives me intense sternum pain!

    Recovering

I am loving the broth! ahahah Today (3 days post op) I had a bit of yogurt. It took me 1 hour to get down 125mls of it. This is hard work!
  4. Hello Everyone! I had my surgery on Wednesday morning around 9:30am. The surgery was text book and only took 1/2 an hour to complete. However, I had quite the adverse reaction to coming out of the anesthesia. I was very nauseous afterwards and I couldn't not shake being groggy. I had a heck of a lot of pain in my sternum and back. The clinic I was at here in Washington state does it as day surgery, but I ended up having to stay the night since I couldn't keep anything down; I was on iv fluids all night and lots of pain medication. I had a lot of anti-nausea drugs prior to surgery, so it could have been a heck of a lot worse without them. I was able to come back to the hotel early this morning. I am sleeping a lot and just drinking Water and apple juice. I am no longer nauseous but I still get that pain in my sternum when I take too big of a sip of liquid. I had six incision spots and they are itchy as hell! My stomach muscles are pretty painful and walking around isn't easy. I am hoping that tomorrow I will be able to walk a bit more. Tomorrow I can also start in on full liquids if I feel like it. I find though that I am sleeping so much that I am coming nowhere near the amount of liquids I should be drinking. It is nearly 4 in the afternoon and I am only up to about 16oz. I think I need to stay awake for a while! The surgeon took photos of the surgery- what lovely looking guts! heheheh I hope everyone out there is either recovering well or preparing well. Good luck everyone!
  5. Hi! Yes, I had the surgery at the Edmonds clinic. They were fantastic! I had the Emend and another anti-nausea pill before the surgery, but it didn't quite cut it. I have had surgery before (gallbladder) and the reaction then was even worse. The surgeon said very few people have the type of reaction I had. Good luck on your surgery day!!
  6. I feel the same on the pain meds- groggy for sure! I am going to be here until Wednesday the 26th and then we start the long trip home.

    On my way!!

We are on our way!! Today we start our travels from our remote community in the Yukon. Here is the travel plan for the next few days (it is nuts): -today drive 400km to Whitehorse -tomorrow fly to Vancouver and then Edmonton where we are dropping the kids off with the grandparents -Sunday fly back to Vancouver and then to Seattle Oh my! We will get there eventually. Thankfully, it looks like the airline we are taking will no longer be striking- so my head will not be exploding from the stress of that anymore. Monday I have a few pre-op appointments and then surgery on Wednesday. We will be in a hotel outside of Seattle for 10 days. Good thing I booked up a nice suite with internet! Hopefully I have everything packed! Away we go!

Pre Op diet day 1 VERY hungry

I do the same! Bedtime has been 9 or 9:30 just so I won't eat! I also now don't eat Breakfast until 9am and lunch then at 1pm. If I eat too early I am starved by lunch time.

Pre Op diet day 1 VERY hungry

It does get better! I have been on my pre surgery for a couple of weeks now and I am not feeling as hungry. I think day four was the worst for me though! Good luck! You can get through it!
  21. My surgery is one week from today. Really, all of my nerves should be about that except we may be facing a potential strike from the airline. It is taking me 4 different flights to get to Seattle for my surgery. And each on of those flights is with Air Canada that may be going on strike. ARRRGGG! So frustrating. We just have our fingers crossed that government intervention is able to delay the strike until we get down there. One week.... unreal. I cannot believe it is happening! kara

How much will I miss binging?

I am a binge eater as well. So I am combining this surgery with a lot of extra counseling. I live in a very remote community, but a mental heath worker comes here once a month. I am all set up to see her each time she comes. Also, the place where I am having my surgery offers 2 years of aftercare. I will be in contact with their nutritionists and other supports a lot after my surgery. I have a lot of bad behaviours to undo! Kara

The nerves have officially set in!

I hear you loud and clear!!! One week from today I will be in my surgery. Unreal!
  24. So I live in a remote community in the Yukon Territory and I am one week away from starting my travel down south to get my surgery! Next Saturday we will drive 400km to Whitehorse to hop on the plane and head to Edmonton. Thankfully my wonderful parents have offered to take our young boys (aged 2 and 4) for a couple of weeks and will drive from Northern BC to Edmonton to pick them up. Then my husband and I hop back on the plane to head down to Seattle for my surgery. I am a bundle of nerves!! Surgery on the 19th of this month.... the time seems to have gone by so quickly since I started the process this summer. No second thoughts, but a lot of curiosity about my life after the sleeve. I am also looking forward to nearly two weeks in a hotel without my boys! This mama needs a break. Nothing to do but watch movies and read books... ahhhh sounds good to me! Does anyone out there have a goal weight? I was 319 when I started my presurgery diet and am now at 311. In my head I am thinking that 170 would be so lovely! The last time I was 170lbs I was around 14. I cannot even imagine what I will look like! Kara
  25. Only 13 days until my sleeve surgery! Five days of my presurgery diet plan and I am already down 8lbs. The only thing that gets frustrating is when I tell people this, they tell me why not just stick to the diet instead of having the surgery. I am getting so excited/nervous!
