  1. What you ate is ON my pre-op diet!! I don't go full liquids until 24 hours before surgery. I wouldn't worry a bit. The fats and sugars are the bad guys - you ate a very healthy meal : )
  2. TWO WEEKS before!! I had to have a 2 hour pre-op at the hospital with the financial people & the anesthesiologist.

    This Might Be Inappropriate!

Maybe you should move this to POST op ?? None of us PRE oppers have a clue : ) We're the blind leading the blind . . .
  4. I did a sleep study, EKG, psych evaluation, nutritionist, bloodwork, upper GI, 5 years weight history with diets attempts (from primary care), surgeon consult, complete physical, pap smear & mammogram.

I have thought exactly the same thing!!!!! I've had four babies so I'm in enough trouble as it is . . . but I worry sometimes that the only thing "keeping me snug" is FAT!!! When I lose my fat stores does that mean I'm gonna need a va-jay-jay lift?!?!

    Changes, The Head Kind

I'll let you know when MY mind stops racing!!
  7. I had my first appointment with the surgeon on April 7th. My surgery date is June 14th. I get the impression that my process is NOT THE NORM!! Having a very supportive PCP who went to bat for me to move things along helped a LOT!!
  8. Bottom line: I began the journey on April 7th. My surgery is June 14th. I get the impression that it takes most people much longer than me. I think I've just been blessed with a great PCP who really helped move things along quickly.
  9. My first appointment with the doctor was on April 7. I fought like a LUNATIC to get all my requirements done in as short a period as possible - it was a very BUSY month of appointments!! My primary care doc was a HUGE help in the process! She was extremely supportive and got lots of documentation to my surgeon very promptly. Getting all of the requirements is definitely the slow part - it feels like everyone & everything is trying to slow you down. I was finished with my requirements on May 15th (so about 5 weeks of that stage). Once I was submitted to the insurance it took 10 days to get approval. My surgery was scheduled for about 2 weeks after approval. FYI - My plan required a five year weight history with documented attempts at weight loss - THAT is the kind of info that my WONDERFUL primary care doc provided - LOVE HER!!!!

    Any June Sleevers?

June 14th with Dr. Bauman in Charlotte NC Can't believe its almost here!!!
  11. I don't know the official name of the technique - but I will ask next week. The band is NOT the same band used in a "lap-band" procedure. Totally unrelated to the lap-band. I'm going to try to explain it the best I can so you can get a visual. The entire diameter is about the size of my pinky finger. There is very thin, twisted wire inside a silicone(?) cover (just like electrical wiring). The small length starts out straight, then he puts it in place at the bottom of the pouch and circles it around. Then, the teensy weeny wires inside are twisted together and that "knot" is covered by the silicone covering. The wires did not extend out past the silicone cover at all. Then, the band is stitched in place to surrounding tissue so it doesn't slip. Hope that helps!
  12. Just wanted to update: Had my pre-op visit today & asked my doctor to describe the banding in more detail. It is a newer variation on the surgery. It is placed at the bottom of the stomach and is stitched in place in two spots so it doesn't slip. It's purpose is to 1) help prevent the stomach from stretching and 2) make me feel fuller for longer periods. That's the basics - maybe we'll start to hear of more people having this "banded sleeve" as time goes along?
  13. From what I understand, the muscle repair is standard operating procedure during a tummy tuck. They don't just remove skin - they repair the damage as well.
  14. Turning 42 next week and all I can say is SAVE ME A SEAT IN THE SURGEONS OFFICE!!!! I am sooooooo going to get a tummy tuck when this is all over!! I can't wait! Go for it & don't look back!!
  15. Close - I'm the 14th!!
  16. eye makeup remover - the kind with oil. Nice and gentle!!
  17. I think it's to help you feel fuller for longer ... I have my pre-op on Monday & I plan to ask more questions about it then. I'm glad to hear some others have heard of it tho!
  18. Seriously - not a joke . . . I started throwing pottery. Sitting there watching clay spin around & around in circles was the ONLY time the surgery wasn't on my mind. I was completely obsessed & consumed by non-stop thoughts about IF it was gonna happen, WHEN it was gonna happen, HOW it was gonna happen. So, my advice? Try getting your hands dirty & take a class in something you've always dreamed of trying. It's been a godsend for me. I even got "the call" that I was approved while I was AT pottery class. IT was perfect!!
  19. Never heard of this one - but I'm thrilled!! I was scheduled for June 18 but today they had a cancellation so I got moved to the 14th!! Holy frijoles! I'm less than two weeks out!! The BEST part of this change is that my husband will be able to be with me now. God bless the surgery scheduler - she remembered that he had to leave for Asia on the 17th and would miss my surgery. So, he can be here now & I'm THRILLED!!!!! My mom will be with me taking care of my kiddos once he has to leave. Doing the happy dance!!! I feel like I just won the fat girl beauty pageant!!!!
  20. I am soooooo with you!!!! I've got four daughters ranging from 16 down to 5. It's like self inflicted Water boarding to get the two oldest to lift a flipping' finger to help out around here! It's going to be a VERY rude awakening when they have to go to the grocery & carry it ALL inside & put it away. They will have to haul the younger sisters around, prep meals, etc. They will crumble under the pressure. My 10 yr old wants to be helpful but I think she's just going to worry to death over my incisions/pain/recovery and I'm going to be spending all of my time consoling her rather than the other way around. The 5 year old just won't give a damn & will pitch a conniption fit the first time she realizes I can't pick her up or go to the pool with her until I get healed up. Precious angels they are - but I'm sure will be driving me crazy before long. Right now it's just pre-op - can you imagine how pathetic they will be when I'm POST-op?! Wussies! : )

    Trying This Again!

Hi Veronica! I never saw your first post so you have a clean slate as far as I'm concerned!! Welcome! I am also a June sleever - mine is the 14th! Just a few days before you. Hopefully I'll be able to get back on here once I get home from the hospital so I can fill you in. If I'm really lucky I'll be able to talk with everybody FROM the hospital - but we'll see . . . Good luck to you & keep on posting - dontcha just LOVE this site??
  22. I was approved!!!!!!! My date is June 18th!!!! I'm soooooo relieved - can sleep again . . .
  23. I am pre-op (June 18th is my day!!) and I'm looking for some sort of a reference book that will show me nutrition info for all types of foods. For example, Protein, calories, carbs/sugars, etc. It's easy when something has a label - but I've never seen a banana with nutrition label : ) Thanks for your help!
