I'm Revising from Band to a Sleeve
WASaBubbleButt replied to 4meonly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's a little bit surgeon skill with an equal amount of patient compliance. -
Hear hear.... I couldn't agree more! Yes yes yes, what you wrote! I already voted, OBAMA all the way!

Sounds good! I'll call you Monday to confirm.

I'm Revising from Band to a Sleeve
WASaBubbleButt replied to 4meonly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The pain and burning with liquids could be the type of liquids you are drinking. Right after surgery it burned to drink OJ, grapefruit juice, etc. Loose stools... liquids in/liquids out. -
Let me tell you, I've seen Snowbird and she is beautiful, she's done a fantastic job with her weight loss!

It's spooky when people believe everything that comes in their email.

Fight the Smears: The Truth About Barack?s Birth Certificate

I had a bout of duodenitis and the only way to make the pain better was to eat solid foods. I kept it at mostly solid Proteins but crackers went down so easy. ;o) I am now on day #2 of the 5DPT. Mmmmmmm, Papadeauxs cheese sticks and shrimp cocktail... doesn't it sound good!?!? Next week, is that good for you? Know what I am doing? I'm a volunteer nurse on a police forum, when the guys are injured I explain the treatments, what the drugs are for, etc. Well, I know police officers from all over. Tomorrow night (Friday) I am doing a ride along with the Goodyear police dept. They are having a DUI check point. He said they always get a lot of good arrests there. Half the shift will be the DUI check point and the other half will be with a K9 officer. I think it will be fun! I hope the dog likes me. :smile:/

Should I have my surgery or not?
WASaBubbleButt replied to CatLover1963's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It isn't up to your fitness trainer to determine your medical needs and when you need surgery. It is also not up to your fitness trainer to determine your protein intake. 110gms of protein is far too much. Protein requirements are based on lean body mass, not current weight. Your fitness trainer should be showing you the proper way to exercise and leave the medical decisions to your doctor. -
Nancy... I think you are changing the focus here. We aren't talking about 10# of excess weight here, we are referring to morbidly obese people. There is a huge difference and I think society does have a valid issue with this. Take Australia for example, I posted an article here in R&R a long time ago regarding their national health care system, they are on the verge of bankruptcy and that is due to the issue of obesity. We have the same issues here, obesity costs us ALL a LOT of money. Increased premiums in insurance, higher taxes for welfare people, more welfare people, it's ridiculous. The costs are staggering. I honestly wouldn't care if they tax the hell out of fast food joints, sugar, flour, and crap food just like they do cigarettes. I see NO difference between taxing smokers vs. taxing people that eat themselves to death while many are doing it on the taxpayer's dime. It is not as easy as telling a 300# 15 y/o girl that she's fine just the way she is because she's a good person. She may be a good person but she's not fine, she's 300# and growing daily. It's okay to tell someone they are a good person but that has nothing in the world to do with the cost to society for their obesity issues.

Gastric Bypass or Sleeve Gastrectomy?
WASaBubbleButt replied to flee75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is also important to realize that full gastrectomies and partial gastrectomies have been done since the late 1800s for stomach CA and ulcers. We know the long term results after over 100 years of doing various types of gastrectomies. What has not been studied extensively (until recently) is the weight loss, the primary focus being on weight loss. -
Gastric Bypass or Sleeve Gastrectomy?
WASaBubbleButt replied to flee75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HAHAHA.. see Mac? Told you. ;o) -
Now wait, nobody is suggesting that she should endorse WLS, you are right that would not be wise on her part. But she is doing the exact opposite, she is telling everyone the horrors of WLS. She is indeed suggesting people should not get WLS. How is that better than endorsing it? There are mindless idiots that do anything she tells them. I hope someone sues her for suggesting they not get WLS.

Lap Band Vs. sleeve gastectomy?
WASaBubbleButt replied to Char_in_Md's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did it and love my sleeve. It is soooo much easier than banding! -
It sure seems like with a bypass person it is not a matter of "if" they will stretch their pouch/stoma but "when" they will stretch. Spooky.

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

I'm Revising from Band to a Sleeve
WASaBubbleButt replied to 4meonly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to dinner with MissMonaAZ tonight, just got home. It took her an hour to get a bowl of Soup down. She's decided to get a revision in Feb to a sleeve. -
You can't really say that malabsorption is "X%" with bypass because it depends on how much intestine they bypass. For example, if you bypass 120cm of intestine you will malabsorb 1/3 of your caloric intake. Since they are eating about the same quantity of food as us for the first year they are going to absorb 2/3 of the calories we do. For those that have ERNY they will malabsorb even more. It's pretty impossible for us to keep up with them and I wouldn't want to keep up with them. They have that nasty "dead" gray look to them from losing so fast. I'm sure part of is is malnutrition in some people as well. I suspect the studies you are reading are the folks that have less malabsorption than standard because they do tend to lose much faster than us in the beginning. The only way they would be eating more than us at the end of one year is if they are overeating and stretching their pouch and stoma and that is exactly what they do when they push food through with liquids. Check out OH's revision boards. It's half bypass people that stretched their pouch and stoma and half banded people wanting sleeves or bypass.

I'm In Mexico-Having Revision on Monday!
WASaBubbleButt replied to 4meonly's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
He does, he takes the revisions last because they take more time. I think I went in around noon. I just read a book. Lettuce/produce is absolutely fine to eat at the hotel or hospital. They wash it in bottled water. I asked. ;o) I didn't lose as much as most the first month because I was trying really hard to maintain my weight. I was 125 or so at the time of my surgery. I just had to get the band out quickly. I lost about 10-12# but I've finally gained it back.. no more 'crack whore' look for me! HA No, I didn't take the sleeping pill, I wasn't nervous. I had my band there originally so I already knew the routine. I didn't even take the antibiotic, I don't take antibiotics unless I have an infection I can't kick on my own. But I didn't tell them that. ;o) Oh, thanks! You are so sweet but no, we don't get anything for referrals. My big thing is that I just want people to research their surgeon and going to someone who will give them a safe surgery. However, next time I do something stupid to myself at least I can preface it with, "HEY! I referred someone to you, you can't get mad at me!" LOL Sometimes people go to a really baaaaad doctor because the doctor is cheap or has a fast talking coordinator. I really feel bad for those people because I know there is a pretty good chance they are not going to have the same shot at a safe and effective surgery as those who go to good doctors. When someone is going to Aceves I don't worry about them, I know they are going to the best! Good luck tomorrow! You'll do great, you'll see. If you need anything just email me or PM me. Congrats on starting a whole new life, band free! -
Anyone considering the SLEEVE? MX Dr.'s?
WASaBubbleButt replied to marnie723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I was a revision from band to sleeve and that is a more complicated procedure than working on a stomach that had never been operated on before. The risks and potential complications are greater for a revision vs. a newbie sleeve. Thus... the only doctor I wanted was Dr. Aceves. OMG NO! Not Huacuz! Adrianne is just one example. I'm still trying to find out if Marty, his DS patient survived or not. I can't find anyone that knows one way or another. By the time Huacuz was done with Marty he had a lacertated liver, had to remove his spleen, his intestines were necrotic, and he was bleeding out. He was in an induced coma in a San Diego hospital trying to undo the damage Huacuz did. Last I heard he has about a 20% chance of survival. Adrianne, if she would have stayed in Tijuana with Huacuz for one more day she would have been dead. She signed herself out of his clinic AMA and got to a US hospital where she too, was in an induced coma for 3 weeks fighting for her life after Huacuz was done with her. The US docs did not believe she would pull through it but thankfully, she did. A sleeve is more invasive than a band, this is all the more reason NOT to have surgery in a clinic! Only a hospital and only by a surgeon that knows what they are doing. -
No, Ghrelin does not affect metabolism. It is a hormone produced by the fundus of the stomach and a primary job of this hormone is to signal the brain that you are hungry. In sleeve folks the fundus of the stomach is removed and they do not experience hunger on the same level as a non sleeved person. But no, nothing to do with metabolism.
