Homosexual Liberal Atheists ~ What's UP with that?
WASaBubbleButt replied to paladin's topic in Rants & Raves
Because personal responsibility isn't a bad thing. And because one person can have five drinks and not be affected and another person can have one drink and be rolling on the floor drunk. Doctors are not expected to be psychic regarding lab values, bartenders shouldn't have to be either. -
Homosexual Liberal Atheists ~ What's UP with that?

No they don't. I don't believe abortion is right but I don't prevent others from getting one. I believe it is wrong for me, I don't pretend to speak for others. -
Typically for a slip the first thing to do is to go to full liquids for three weeks. Many times that will fix the problem.
-
Bleeding is also a sign of a slip.
-
Wow, get another opinion and get an endoscopy quickly.

Do you miss eating like you used to?

Thanks, Mandy. I will do that. I currently have an eggplant that I bought but everyone thinks it is a bad idea to make eggplant chips (thin sliced, baked until crisp, spices like a potato chip). Any clue what to do with it now? -

Btw, I changed ID's on that cooking forum I was banned from and merely from my questions they figured out who I am. However, now they believe me. The mod apologized for banning me and said I NEED to be reading that forum. Go figure. -

He didn't, he didn't complain about a thing. We gave him the rest of the turkey and he was thrilled. Had food for a month. But he wasn't overly impressed with the sides. He never said a word, but I'm pretty sure he was gagging with the rest of us. Mom died before she told me how much a "smidgon" is. I'm here to tell you that when you are making potato salad a "smidgon" is not a quarter cup of celery salt. Had to take a ham to function once. I went to the cooking forum I was eventually banned from and asked if it isn't true that all hams come cooked. I thought they were. Turns out, mine was RAW! They gave me extra specific directions and I followed them to a "T". Got the stupid ham done, went to put it on the counter and it went rolling off and landed on the floor. Did you know ham comes in different colors? It does!! And it broke. My ham broke. They were no longer sandwich size pieces that I could slice since I had to cut all the edges off that touched the floor so I made it into cubes and stuck toothpicks in the cubes. Didn't work very well for sandwiches but the dummies should have known better than to have ME cook a ham. Made another turkey once and nobody told me the parts are in a bag inside the turkey. Recipe called for stuffing apples, oranges, or onions up there. I didn't know which one to use to I crammed them all up there. What a surprise to pull those out after it's done cooking to find a bag of crap. Liver crap, kidney crap, and heart crap. All raw. That was my first clue. Did you know there is a difference between instant oatmeal and the other kind? Yeah, I didn't. I'm just not a cook. -

I agree with you that some issues are labeled religion issues but you know what? They are. Someone believes something is right because their church believes it is. That is a religious issue. Even if the person voting isn't the least bit affected by "X" action their church believes nobody should do it thus they vote so that others can't do it either. Gun control is a big issue but it isn't typically being preached about in church. -

Like it or not, your belief is just that. A belief. That's why you have faith. Your God has not been proven to exist so it is not a fact, it's a belief. There is nothing wrong with beliefs, nothing at all. But it simply isn't the same as a fact. That's a cop out. I'm looking at the bigger picture here. Christians attempt to put their beliefs into law. That is simply morally wrong. If you don't want to be gay, don't. But you don't have a moral right to tell another they can't be gay. (you means general you, not specific you) When you are putting your religious beliefs into law don't come complaining when Christianity is no longer the majority religion in the US. When you are forced legally to live by the beliefs of the new majority, just remember that we have the Christians to thank for setting a precedent. You are missing the point. The point isn't whether or not someone can control your beliefs but they could control your actions. I have little reason to disprove your God. It isn't my claim he exists. If I tell you that there really are pink flying elephants is it my job to defend my claims or is it your job to disprove me? I'm referring to simple debate rules here, nothing more. -

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=65452 Modern Imaging Unravels Causes Of Addictive Behaviour - A Possible Basis For New Therapies? What can radiology contribute to the treatment of obesity (adipositas)? Evidently a great deal, as was made clear at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR 2007) at Austria Center Vienna. Whereas structural magnetic resonance tomography (sMRI) images only the shape and volume of certain regions of the brain, functional magnetic resonance tomography (fMRI) allows radiologists to observe the brain in operation, as it were, and to unravel mysteries in the process that could pave the way to new forms of therapy. In fMRI research at the Department for Radiology at the Berliner Charité (Professor Dr. Georg Bohner), it was recently found that the saying 'you eat with your eyes' is true in a problematic way, at least for obese individuals. Scientists examined the brain functions of 13 highly obese females and 13 normal-weight females while the subjects were shown slides of food of varying calorie content. Whereas the normal-weight individuals displayed no neural activation not also found in the obese subjects, visual exposure to culinary delights did activate several areas of the brain in the obese subjects that were not 'triggered' in the control group. The higher the calories content of the depicted food, the greater the activation. It was also found that the primary taste cortex, as well as parts of the brain that belong to the body's so-called reward system, were also activated in the obese subjects. Certain circuits in the brains of the obese subjects also led to the release of the happiness hormones dopamine and serotonin at the mere thought of food. It is a vicious circle, because without food, there is no reward and feelings of unpleasure arise. "Quite similar mechanisms were found in the brain functions of gambling addicts," noted Professor Dr. Stefan Sunaert, a physician from the Department of Radiology at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. "That means we can now also use fMRI as a diagnostic and control instrument for addiction therapies. A before/after comparison of the scans would have to show whether a psychological treatment aimed at disassociating emotional satisfaction from food had really been effective." Professor Sunaert also noted the possibility of developing new treatment strategies utilising fMRI. "Medicinal therapies with serotonin inhibitors are conceivable, as are therapies with substances that have a direct effect on the hypothalamus and that eliminate the feeling of hunger. Another possibility would be to use electrodes to stimulate the brain directly, especially the capsula anterior and the nucleus accumbens, the main pleasure centre of the brain. Tests on people with obsessive compulsive disorder, OCD, have shown that their desire to engage in these behaviours ceases when the centre of pleasure is activated in another way. We can evaluate all these phenomena much more quickly now, because we can actually see whether neural activation is normalising."

Homosexual Liberal Atheists ~ What's UP with that?

Right, you vote according to your bible. You know, that book that is based on NOT fact, but myth. You happen to believe that myth is true. Unless you have something to back up that myth with facts, you are no different from the rest of the 2000 years worth of Christianity. But what you are doing is insisting others live according to beliefs you can't begin to defend. Let me ask you something, what if another religion takes over the US. It is going to happen, there is no way around that. If stats continue as they are there WILL be another religion taking over. So my questions to you are, do you want to live by THEIR religion vs. your own? No???? Then why in the world would you expect others to live by yours? What is the difference? You are no better than those that want YOU to live by THEIR religion. Let's not forget that. -

But the fact still remains, you vote according to what you are taught in church. Each person living their life according to what is right for THEM is totally beside the point. You ARE attempting to put YOUR religion into law. It is one thing to say.... I'm gay and I'm living my life as is right for me. You, OTOH, are saying, I am voting so you live life according to my unproven beliefs. Just admit it and move on. Religion in politics works well. It is NOT a matter of what is good for another is NOT good for you, it is a matter of what YOU believe other should live by too. Guess what? It doesn't work. -

Homosexual Liberal Atheists ~ What's UP with that?
WASaBubbleButt replied to paladin's topic in Rants & Raves
One problem that I have is that I read *so* much information about various issues that sometimes I can't remember if a given tidbit is fact or fiction. Sometimes I'll read something and it doesn't really make a big impression one way or another but later I learn more about that specific topic and then I can't recall if the tidbit was real or not. So I try very hard to stick to objective sources. If I have to research it to remember if it was fact or fiction, I tend to remember that! LOL That isn't to say that objective sources never have a biased twist here and there, they do! But I like to stick to places that have a rep of objectivity. I still research and verify, but at least it doesn't take as long if I stick to the reputable sources. Now, finding reputable sources is no easy task. Sheesh I understand what you say about reading both extremes. I just get tired of agendas. Why can't people just be honest? You know? It gets old after time. If someone is soooo right, there is no reason for them to lie. And I'm referring to media sources here. I find it annoying that I have to read media sources outside the US just to get the true scoop on US issues. It's ridiculous and embarrassing. US folks are the only people in the entire world that believes the US is just spiffy and hot stuff. The rest of the world knows things about us our own citizens don't know. I'm ranting... never mind. -

Do a Google search on Diebold. There are a LOT of verrry biased sites out there pushing an anti-Bush agenda. But there are some sites that really to attempt to be as objective as possible. You might be surprised at what you read. I have been looking for a link I have that lists tons of details about election equipment and I can't find it. When I first saw it I thought it was another biased anti-Bush'er but I was able to verify most of it, the others I couldn't determine one way or another if it was factual. Don't get me wrong, you can't get much more anti-Bush than me but I still want to read the objective stuff and I'll form my own opinions on any given topic. That doesn't happen with biased material. This link blew me away. I'll still continue looking for it. -

Dr. C... Would you continue to post photos of anything the least bit unusual? I think most of us find it very interesting.
