For those six months after band surgery

It's spooky, isn't it? If I lose much more hair I'm going to start looking at wigs. I am with you on the shower drain, the floors, it gets caught in your hands... but there's more! My dogs are now pooping my hair. It's just gone too far.

Too Much Stupid In The World

A friend of mine sent me this morning, it's not a joke she is passing around it is something that happened to her. It got me to thinking, I love stupid people stories. Anyone have one? I have 2 dogs & I was buying a large bag of Purina at Wal-Mart and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a guy who was behind her. Horrified, she asked if I'd ended up in the hospital in that condition because I had been poisoned. I told her no; it was because I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me. I thought one guy was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard as he staggered out the door. Stupid lady...why else would I buy dog food??

New Poll: How long is this going to take?

I paid cash so for me it was six days.

    Need to get fixed, suggestions?

Yeah, Dr. Aceves will fix it, he's in Mexico on the Calexico border. LAP-BAND,laparoscopic banding, bariatric surgery, obesity Maybe just call the office and see if they use that thick stuff that is supposed to plug a leak. If you didn't have the fill under fluoro with contrast I wouldn't be jumping to a leak just yet. She might have missed your port.

    Hair Loss........omg!

You know, we should start a poll on hair loss. It SEEMS like most have it, but not all. Let's get the unscientific results with a poll.

Nope, I believed it because she would say something like that. Her sense of humor is pretty funny.

    Hair Loss........omg!

Even with my panic and hysteria I'd still do it all over again. I'd rather wear a wig than deal with fat pants.

    Overeating? and PBing

I stick to very low carbs, about 20 or less daily. I don't do it for weight loss issues, I'm on 600 calories a day and that provides for plenty of weight loss. I just feel better with few carbs. But when I do eat them I don't fret about it, I just run them off. If I want a cookie, I have one but I run it off within an hour or two of eating it. It's worked well for me. A friend of mine knows how to cook unlike me and the other day she was sweet enough to make my favorite dinner (my fav that she cooks). Orange Roughy fish with mango salsa (no sugar, the tiny bits of mango were just right) and spaghetti squash. I didn't run the mango or squash off, I figure I burned those carbs from barfing for the rest of the night due to being stuck from eating too much and too fast. Sheesh... before the barfing it was sooooo good!

    Hair Loss........omg!

I'm holding off the rest of my hysteria while banking on you guys that have BTDT and the promises that it will stop and eventually grow back. The question is, will I live to be old enough to see my hair again. :cry You know, one of the many reasons I opted for banding over bypass was that we were supposed to get to keep our hair.

    Banded in Mexico?

I already responded on your other thread.

    So Totally Discouraged

Have you had a fill yet? If not, your band isn't even functional yet. Get a fill then worry about weight loss.

    Hair Loss........omg!

Nope, nothing helps. If you are already getting your Protein and Vitamins, taking more is just spinning your wheels. There are a gazillion threads here on this topic and it's one of those things you just have to wait out with the rest of us. As long as you are getting protein and taking daily vitamins, you are doing everything you can. Join the crowd... many of us are right there with you. I am 8 months out and it's still falling out. I've easily lost over 50% of my hair. But Kat swears it will grow back so I'm trusting her that it does.

All my hopes and dreams down the drain

Nope, it won't make a difference. Your employer didn't buy that part of the policy. It would be like your house flooding and you didn't have flood insurance, nobody would pay the claim. You don't have WLS coverage so nobody is going to pay that claim. Honestly, if you have to finance your surgery you will also see a way to pay the payments in money saved after surgery. Your food bill will change drastically. Rx copays, the works.

    I cannot burp

I think it was 2-3 days, not long. As for the burping, if I eat something wrong and PB I get swelling, if there is swelling I still get the feeling I want to burp but can't. It only lasts an hour or so and it's gone.
  18. WASaBubbleButt

    Allergic to band?

What were your symptoms before with these kinds of sutures?
  19. WASaBubbleButt

    I cannot burp

You don't actually have to burp, you are feeling the effects of swelling. We all go through the same thing. It's annoying but it will go away with time. Even when you do manage to burp you'll find it won't really do any good. You'll feel like you still need to do it again. As the swelling goes down that side effect goes away.

    Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?

I don't want to breathe deep, I'll inhale a hair! Honestly, this is getting spooky and creepy. I'm gonna be bald if this doesn't stop.

    Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?

I was just reading an article about this in OH magazine last night. Well, the article wasn't *about* hair loss but hair loss was mentioned. The bariatric surgeon writing the article said this is normal. While I have heard most docs say 4-6 months after surgery it happens, this guy claims it happens from months 3-11. OMG, 3 more months of this and I won't have any hair left! For me it is 4 months through - now, 8 months. It's slowed down but I think that is because I don't have as much to lose anymore. I suspect I've lost over 60% of my hair. Thankfully I had a lot to start with.
  22. WASaBubbleButt

Still trying to figure out my band.

The idea isn't to be full *or* stuffed, the idea is to be not hungry. Full or stuffed is just asking for PBing and PBing is asking for a slip. Not hungry is what you are looking for.
  23. WASaBubbleButt

Is this a diet to all of you?

It varies from person to person. Some count calories, etc. Some don't. Dieting without a band is something most of us can't do long term. Oh, some get it off but they don't keep it off, thus the band. While the band is still quite hard it is the kind of hard folks like us can do. Big difference from pre-band.

    Dr. Kuri Mexico

It varies by doctor. I went to Dr. Aceves and it ranges from $7800-$8200 depending on if there are any specials going on.

All my hopes and dreams down the drain

Isn't that the truth! The surgery pays for itself with cost savings and then again with quality of life. My doc charges $8200 and has specials every now and again for $7800. But don't shop by price alone, shop by experience and skill.
