eating more at dinner than the rest of the day
WASaBubbleButt replied to ShannonRT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Something to consider... Dr. C once mentioned that there are people he fills in the evening. He fills them so that if they can't do anything but liquids and protein shakes during the day, he doesn't care. If they can only eat solids in the evening and in limited quantities, he's fine with that. I've been meaning to ask my own doc about that just for informational purposes but I keep forgetting. -
Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?
WASaBubbleButt replied to sweet_thang0792's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ditto. An article I read a couple of weeks ago by a bariatric surgeon said it can last as long as through month 11. I'm coming to terms with it. If I lose too much I'll get a hair piece or a wig. I'd rather do that than be a heifer all my life. -

You can cover up thin hair, you can't cover up fat. -
The majority of time it is up to us. If someone is so tight they can't get their own spit down and keep it down, they need to do something about that. If eating salty foods is going to make you so tight you can't keep soup down then don't eat salty things. If you do, just know what the end result might be and that could also ultimately result in a slip. So I guess I am of the opinion that the vast majority of times, it is indeed us.

I hate it when people ask me how much more I want to lose. I look at the numbers and say 15 or so. I look at my body and say 100 or so. I don't like people referring to me as skinny because I am not. I'm starting to get embarrassed at how much I've lost. People ask me and when I tell them I know they are thinking, "WOW! She was *that* fat??" When I lost 30-40 I was proud of what I had done. Now it's just getting embarrassing. I can't win.

A big over-stuffed comfy chair, a fuzzy blanky, and a good book.

I wouldn't only because I think it is going to make your port kick in and throw a fit screaming at you to STOP DOING THAT. No lifting weights, nothing over 8-10lbs or so, no abdominal crunches, and if it hurts, quit doing that.

Does could'a and should'a count? If not, oh oh... I have my own weird things that I need to stop doing but amazingly, they don't annoy me the same way as the spelling and grammar of others. HA! What about, "I am doing good, how are you? Are you doing good?" Have you been to the rants section of LBT yet? Check out the Peeves thread. It's pretty funny but a very long read. I fully realize that formal writing is not required here. I understand that folks don't edit posts. I'm one of them! I hate to proof a post because I already read it once, when I wrote it. I don't care to read it again. Typos are one thing, but.... Well, anyway. -
HA! Reminds me of ... ME! Well, before I started taking Luvox. Now I am not so paranoid about not having something to barf in all the time.

Sorry, God isn't going to help you on this one. This one is up to you. It depends on if you chew well and do things as you are supposed to. This one is allllll you.

Have you had your esophagus and pouch rechecked under fluoro since the time you were diagnosed with a dilated pouch?

There are some people that fight weight issues their whole life. If they are 40lbs overweight today maybe they were 100lbs overweight 10 years ago. Honestly, I don't care if someone is 40lbs and never been bigger in their lives. If they are going up and up on the scale and dieting isn't working I say band them! Do it now before they are diabetic, have joint problems, cardiac problems, etc. Let's prevent the hard core diseases instead of trying to put a bandaid on them later in life. I think sometimes when we are bigger than another we think that we could have done it if we were only 40lbs overweight. Truth is, we WERE 40lbs overweight at one time and we couldn't do it, how can they? Also, I have 102 total to lose. It isn't any easier for me to lose 102 than it is for another to lose 40 and keep it off. Overall, I'd just like to see some complications caused by obesity to be prevented vs. treated later.

I was just talking to a friend of mine this morning that has been banded much longer than me. She said that when she was first banded she would barf immediately after eating something that didn't work. Now it can take up to an hour before she even knows it won't work. Another friend was just banded in Feb and she is saying the same thing. She ate dinner, felt great, went shopping and barfed all over the front garden area of the mall. Just goes to show, everyone is different.

Since obesity is a huge cause for hiatal hernias many of us had them. Your doc should fix it when he bands you. It's no big deal, just one or two stitches at best. I had one, didn't even know it until after surgery my doc mentioned it. It's no big deal.

The thing about those types of drugs is that if it does not work for you it can cause a LOT of damage in just one dose. If you have the least bit of heartburn with even one dose your doc won't likely permit you to take it again. You have to take those drugs on an empty stomach and you have to sit/stand for at least 30 minutes after taking it. You can't take it at night before bedtime. I don't recall the size of the tablet so I'm not sure it would go through anyway and some of those drugs are time released so you cannot break it or crush it. Might want to research Forteo and see what you think. It's an injectable drug but it's not as bad as it sounds. It's like an insulin syringe, a tiny hair-like needle that I promise, does not hurt in the least. If you think that is something you can deal with then talk to your doc about that possibility. However, it is verrry expensive and getting insurance to pay will be tricky. I would also get your surgeon involved in this one.

There are probably various brands but thus far the only brands of individual serving size of chili is loaded with fat and calories. I've tried them and I don't care for them, they taste like there are big lumps of fat goo in there, not sure what it is supposed to be. If anyone finds a great veggie brand it would be great to try it.

Orange Roughy Recipe Please?
WASaBubbleButt replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Orange Roughy isn't like regular fish, this stuff is GOOD! With a sweet salsa on it, it is really good. -
I love Orange Roughy fish. Does anyone know how to make it? Something REALLY easy (I'm a horrible cook), nothing complicated, not too many spices because I won't know what they are, and low carb. No breading, etc. Suggestions? Thx!

Thanks. Talipia is good but I really like Orange Roughy better. It has less of a fish taste but it is a lot more expensive. -
Orange Roughy Recipe Please?
WASaBubbleButt replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks, I can handle that recipe! Sounds good too. I like that kind of fish because it doesn't have a strong fishy taste. I can't stomach salmon (grew up eating salmon patties EVERY single Friday night, gahhhh), I'm sick of tuna so it's time to find something new. -
eating more at dinner than the rest of the day

We actually discussed this very topic in the "Rants" section a couple of months ago and nobody could come up with a way of doing it that didn't come off as insulting. But I saw it time and time again yesterday and it got the best of me. I got weak. -
Dr. George Fielding - Dr. Fielding Fills
WASaBubbleButt replied to odanielle's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I doubt Dr. Ortiz will follow through with it anyway. I'd talk to his staff since that would be more along the lines of their job. -
There is a reason for this. When you first had surgery and were burning fat there is a step that happens before you burn fat. The first thing to go is the glycogen in your muscle. For each gram of glycogen that you burn you lose 4 grams of Water. Most of the weight loss immediately after surgery is water, 80% as a matter of fact. After you deplete your glycogen stores you start burning actual fat and no water so the scale starts to slow down. It's all normal and it is working just as it is supposed to. Consider any weight loss between surgery and your restriction a bonus since that time frame isn't designed for weight loss but healing instead.
