Her doc has already told her she is not diabetic, she's hypoglycemic.

    Hypoglycemic? blood sugar question

That might not be a great idea. Thing is, apple juice is all sugar. The sugar will bring her blood sugar up but that will also make her pancreas kick out more insulin and her blood sugar will go lower than it did to begin with. So a rebound effect. The key for hypoglycemics is Protein. Protein will bring blood sugar up a bit but not enough to kick out insulin. It's the doses of insulin her body is giving her that causes hypoglycemia. When protein isn't available then propel Water. Just a pinch of sugar but not enough for blood sugar spikes. Protein is much better.

HA! I love your ID. If you have 100lbs to lose, is it a safe bet that you are eating loads and loads of carbs? Let me guess, you feel crappy, shaky, sweating, horrible, you eat a candy bar and feel better. Am I right?

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"

I have Protein challenges without fish and while I LOVE Matrix 5.0, I don't want to depend on Protein shakes for the bulk of my protein. I have been reading and participating in a tofo thread and I have my hopes up for tofu vs. chicken or tuna. I'm pretty well over chicken, it's fish that is my challenge. Replacing that protein in salads. I was vegetarian for many years and want to go back to that. I felt better, slept less, everything was better with a veggie diet.

Maybe a few magnets too? I think someone needs to learn a bit about the challenges of MO.

I'm working on the vegetarian thing and I'm almost there. Fish once in a while but veggies otherwise. I still need a drastic increase in variety though. I am a naturally lazy person when it comes to cooking.

Well OBVIOUSLY it isn't to spam a website, I mean... that would be against the rules. Everyone else pays to advertise. But what do I know, I'm a mere member of the boards.

    Obesity Goodbye Clinic

The real key is what has your research shown about any office you are considering? What are their stats for slips, erosion, and infection? How many bands has the doc you will be using done? What is the hospital stay? Clinic stay? Hotel stay? Is this person a certified bariatric surgeon? You have a lot of research ahead of you before you can begin to narrow down doctors. Which doctors are with Obesity Goodbye Clinic?

When did you have your band placed? I mean, you did come here for the reason of your own band, right?

How Long Till You Feel Better?

See the positives, not the negatives in life. Would you rather they never found the problem? This is a GOOD thing, now it can be fixed and you find your sweet spot.
  14. WASaBubbleButt

    oh no!!!!

Sounds like you are advancing your diet too quickly. Be sure to follow the post op diet, it's critical that you do so.

    Virtual colonoscopy

I think they kinda take advantage of how much we want the surgery and they sorta force you into getting various diagnostics done. Same applies with a pap. What the heck does a cervical problem have to do with a band around your stomach? Would they require the same thing for removing your adenoids? It's silly but it's their game and they call the shots. Just one more reason I had my surgery in Mexico. No game playing, I just got the darn surgery. A virtual colonoscopy is one of the worst ways to detect a problem. The old fashioned way is much better. Besides, if they find anything they have to go back and do it the old way anyhow such as removing polyps, etc.

Good question, how is that done? BTW, if you really are on an all meat diet please let your doc know and ask about TUMS. Some docs suggest 1gm TUMS twice daily while in ketosis as it can balance the acids out. Some docs suggest being on TUMS from days 1-10 for every 30 days in ketosis. Might want to see how your doc feels about this.
  17. Not really. You see I haven't actually mastered "landing" yet. I do great take offs, stalls, turn on a quarter thing... but landing, yeah. That's not my specialty.

Do you know what I have discovered? While I was fat I got pretty damned old! I have wrinkles around my eyes that ever used to be there. I have this rooster thing going down my throat. And jowls... OMG! I never thought about the concept of regaining because we never realized we lost weight to begin with. That's really an interesting thought.

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"

He's the "top" surgeon in Florida? Says who? I have a hunch a number of other surgeons in FL might not agree with that assessment. I always wonder who assigns these docs "top" or "leading" titles. Nobody ever seems to know. Isn't that kinda like me claiming I'm the "top" or the "leading" nurse in Arizona? I mean, does that title really hold any Water? I don't think it does but maybe I'm wrong. An only "meat" diet pretty much goes against what the band is all about. Teaching you better and healthier food habits, etc. Perhaps you wouldn't have lost 96# on a healthy diet but everyone else around here that has lost as much or more weight was very capable of doing so using a healthy diet vs. a high fat, high cholesterol, high Protein, zero carb diet. I thought I limited carbs... man, my diet is full of carbs in comparison to yours. Chickie... were you able to lose any weight if you ate anything other than meat? Boo Boo Kitty, what about you? Julie? NMGirl?

You can have lettuce if it works for you. I can do the hard crunchy parts of lettuce but the green leafy parts such as spinich get stuck. Some people are anti-lettuce completely and totally because nutritional values aren't great. But I think that is the beauty of the band, you eat what you want in smaller quantities. I LOVE salads! My dog and I split salads all the time, I give her all the stuff I don't think will work for me and we are both happy.

    Protein

Cutting out white carbs stops the blood sugar spikes/insulin issues so hunger is not a huge issue. This is something to remember during your post op diet as well. See how everyone is complaining that they are sooo hungry during the post op phase? Well, if you cut out white carbs and bump up protein it really does kill hunger pains.

    Anyone Regret the band??

After time you will eat enough food that people won't look at you funny, no worries.

Thanks! No, I still haven't posted a photo. I still cringe each time I see my reflection in a mirror let alone a photo. Yikes, a few more pounds and a lot of plastic surgery and then I might be able to bring myself to do it.

    For all you losers.......

I changed my food choices completely and drastically. I used to live on burgers and Diet Coke. Now I rarely eat crap foods that taste sooo good. I have found that if I eat a lot of carbs I just don't feel well. I feel so much better today vs. pre-band. My diet was so horrible pre-band that I sincerely doubt a child would grow eating the same diet as me. One thing I think you will find about banding is that your tastes change. What you used to like you no longer care for and things that used to make you gag are pretty darn good all the sudden. When you burn fat that fat turns into various chemicals that leave your body via sweat, urine, breath, and saliva (keytones). It's the keytones that really change your sense of taste and you might find that you don't care for the bad foods as much. With time it becomes habit and before you know it you are actually craving the stuff that is good for you. The band is an amazing thing in so many ways. Congrats on being a pre-bandster. It changes your life in ways you never dreamed.

Basically I have stomach spasms. I have always had this problem but I never knew it until I was banded. The way my doc explains it is that there are nerve signals between my stomach and brain that get mixed up somewhere and my brain thinks I have more restriction than I do. Each time I would try to eat anything solid I would barf. Sometimes it would happen with liquids as well. I went to every doc I could think of and finally it was my surgeon that did a gazillion tests and figured it out. He tried a couple of drugs and finally found one that works. Luvox. It's in the Prozac family. It's supposed to fix the nerve signals between my stomach and brain. This is not something that is common at all. I'm the first for my surgeon, another surgeon has had two people like me out of 4000 bands. I want to watch surgery too! So you have to take photos. Lots and lots of photos. Next weekend, is that this weekend or two weeks from today? I'll make time for you, I want to see that skinny self of yours! I haven't seen your skinny self in months now! Thank you, you are very sweet to say that. I do sincerely appreciate your words.
