  1. If it helps any, your surgical scars will be exactly the same as that of a hiatal hernia repair and recovery will be the same (except for the post op diet). Keep in mind, the post op diet is a dead give-away many times.

Yeah, it will be okay. Add the spices last as they will cook out. With Beans they seem to suck up a lot of flavor so you'll need to add spices about an hour before it is done. Did you add onions, bell peppers, etc?

    stupid people

I think a lot of the problem has to do with technology but with a different twist. We really don't have to think anymore. We have others that are assigned to do our thinking for us. Or technology thinks for us. Okay, I can't spell worth a damn, never have been able to do it. I can do complicated algebra equations in my head but I struggle to spell little words. I don't have to learn to spell, I can use spell checker. Ask a kid how to do an algebra problem and he HAS to pull out his calculator. He can't do it on paper but he can do it with technology. Our employers are telling us what to do and how to behave 40+ hours a week, our religious leaders are telling us who to vote for and half the time, people don't even realize that. Political leaders create laws for us to follow because we can't behave on our own, hair dryer manufacturers have to put warnings on their product not to use it in a shower. Heck, even Mickey D's has to tell you not to put hot coffee between your legs because people are so damn stupid they'll do it. They even do it WITH the warnings. We SHOULD be taking advantage of technology and increasing our knowledge and instead we depend on it to do our thinking. It's spooky.

Working in any medical facility is a huge eye opener. A nursing home is a bloody shock to the system. I get slam dunked for a LOT of things I write on line and this one will be no different but many (NOT ALL) nurses that go into skilled nursing facilities are those that didn't cut it in the real world of hospitals. There are plenty of nurses that are really good and seriously caring that go to SNFs but not the majority. The majority were fired or quit before they were fired in quality hospitals. I know of ONE SNF I would send anyone I care about. That's sad, eh? Countries such as India... most states don't even HAVE SNFs. They take care of their own. That's the way to do it. I would pay money to be able to take care of my Dad but he died before I had the opportunity. But that would have been my choice without a doubt. Some nurses are outstanding, some suck. That's how it is.

    Mexico, Doctors, and Complications

I'm gonna get slam dunked for this but I'll write it anyway. Nonononononoooooooooooo! Not Huacuz! Not Huacuz or Lopez from Betancourt. They have the worst reps in Mexico. You want to come home healthy? Go to ANYONE but them. Okay, folks. Bring it on.

Boca burgers are best with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and MUSTARD! Lottsa mustard! Yummmmm Any of them are good if you know what to do with them. Well, except MS pork crap. OMG that's just awful. There is NO way to cover up the texture and flavor, they just suck.

BTW, don't worry about open toe shoes. It doesn't matter, it's not a patient safety issue. Nobody cares. Scrubs vs. street clothes, is one seriously more clean than another? Get realistic. The issues that matter are patient safety issues. Cleaning equipment, that sort of thing. Don't worry about the little stuff, focus on the big issues and people will pay attention. Otherwise it will be assumed that you have an axe to grind and you'll be ignored. If someone drops a microscope on their foot.... why does that matter to you? You won't be harmed, the patient won't be harmed. Don't focus on the BS, focus on the real stuff.

People get cocky and cop attitudes. Everything always happens to someone else. The real problem is that when any of us are lazy we don't see the effects of the lazy behavior, it doesn't crop up for days or weeks. So we have this wrong impression that we did nothing wrong, none of our patients died the moment we screwed up. You will get lazy someday in your career. It will happen, it's a given. Ohhh, you say it won't happen but it will. Something will change your tune and you'll go back to the right way of doing things. It's just how it is. Every single student says they won't permit it to happen and every single student allows it to happen. Then you learn and it doesn't happen again if you are the least bit good. It all boils down to people copping a cocky attitude and deciding they know better. Stats show that the average medical professional kills three people in their career. Most of the time, the rest of the world just doesn't know it.

You would be shocked at how many medical folks do not wash their hands. People tease me and tell me washing my hands is my neurosis. I don't care, I wash 'em anyway. Do you know the hospital infection stats are lower in Mexico than they are in the US according to the WHO? It's simple handwashing. US nurses are verrrry lazy people sometimes. Never stop doing things the right way, just skimping once can cost someone their life.

How does it work with soup?

If you aren't grazing all day and you are staying within your caloric range... it's no big deal. If you find that you are eating 30 minutes after a meal of soup then yes, it's an issue. There is no such thing as bandster rules, there are bandster guidelines. We are all different and what works for one won't work for another. Do what is right for you.

Sula & Jeni.... Ohhhh noooooooooo, did that for a weekend once. A friend of mine was banded six weeks after I was and well, she's not doing well. So we had a BubbleButt Weekend Bootcamp of two mile uphill hikes and not a bloody carb crossed her lips the entire weekend. Let's just say we aren't quite as good of friends as we used to be. BUT! She lost two pounds! :rose: I like keeping my enemies at a minimum. Heh...

I haven't tried those. One thing I really do like a great deal are Morning Star Buffalo Wings. They are boneless :rose: but a little too hot for me so I dip them in honey. Just never ever get fake MS pork, it's beyond disgusting. Sausage patties or links.... really seriously gross.

    No restriction-So frustrated

The band will help you to eat less but you need the right restriction. Are you getting fills under fluoro? Who is your surgeon? How far are you from him? Many times fill docs don't go by restriction they go by cc's. Instead of filling you properly they keep you coming back for more fill fees. Not all of them but some of them. Just eat your solid Protein first then veggies. That will keep you full longer. Drink all the water you want before you eat. Drink a lot. The diet isn't as strict as you think when you have restriction. When you eat solid protein you don't really have room for the crap foods and it makes head hunger much more easy to deal with. You can do this, you just need good restriction.

Was anyone banded in December of '06?

Yeah, I realized that while I was fat I got old. Before I was fat I was young. Today I'm old. Not fair.
