Why are my co-workers so obsessed with food?

Isn't that true? I was at a restaurant the other day with a friend and I saw the largest women I believe I have ever seen that could still walk. Honestly, I don't know how she did walk. They were sitting next to us and I was shocked at the amount of food two people can eat. They just kept at it. I wanted SOOOOO bad to run over and tell them about the lap band. Not to be mean, just because I know it works. Obviously, I didn't do that and I wouldn't. But I sure wanted to. Both were extremely large people but especially the women. It made me feel so bad for her. Even some normal size people, makes me wonder if they are filling up their left leg when they eat. I don't know where they put it anymore.

    I am overweight!

Whenever I went down a level (MO to SO to O to just plain fat) I did something special for myself. Once it was a trip to visit a bandster friend in another state, once it was getting my hair cut, colored, and highlighted at an extra fancy salon, once it was buying cool stuff to go with my computer. You should find something to reward yourself. Personally, I think it should be done at various milestones. It's fun and we deserve to reward ourselves. I liked the hair thing the most, as you lose weight you look even better and I like doing things to improve my appearance. My current reward is my tummy tuck... and maybe a boob job too.

    How many calories???

Very true, I know of one doc that wants people to stick to 600-800, my doc wants 800, some docs 1200-1500. I'm honestly not sure how I could eat 1500 calories at this point. I'm so used to 600 that 1500 seems like a HUGE amount to me! I am not advocating people stick to my caloric intake but I agree with you, Faith, go by what your doc says.

    How many calories???

Was my caloric intake consistent or my weight loss? I did average 600 daily, sometimes 400 sometimes 800 but I always made sure it averaged out to 600 daily. Weight loss did slow down in the end but it wasn't bad. Frustrating because I wanted to reach goal but it wasn't a huge plateau or anything. I really work hard too, I do a lot of hard cardio daily and some easy cardio. THAT'S what really makes a difference. I had to stop running for about three weeks due to a medical problem (one that was my own fault) but even then I continued to lose. Must be a metabolism thing from cardio.

Thank you. Not sure what my caloric intake will be, this is my first day at goal.

Why do I do it to myself?

Great. One can only guess what symptoms require a colonic cleansing.

Why do I do it to myself?

Yep. For years she's been claiming to work for him and now she actually does. All she's doing is writing a band booklet from what I understand. Something she GIVES away to everyone else. Just because someone is a doc doesn't mean they are good business people. :cry

    Called me "Skinny"-grumble

I usually try to go by the person's intent and her intent was clearly not to insult you but to encourage you. Everyone takes those kinds of comments differently and until someone says it they don't really know how you are going to react or respond. Just go by intent, her intent is to be a friend and supportive. She's trying, it's a lot better than not trying at all.

    Not Loosing Even After Fill

This time I agree with Julie. Get a fill. Sometimes it takes a few times to get to your sweet spot. Everyone has a different level of restriction that is their sweetspot and you need to find yours. It will happen.

    Financing Question

I'm not sure about this but I believe each doc contracts with various places. If you want me to ask my doc who they use I will but I think you need to pick the doc and then see if you can get approved by their folks. Isn't Capital One one of the places that will extend loans to people with if'fy credit? There is a person on the boards that knows a lot about this. I can't remember who it is but her real time name starts with an "M". If I can find that post I'll PM her and ask her to come here.

Curious - What's it like after goal???

I've only been at goal for about six hours so I can't really say what tomorrow will bring but you can get a slight unfill if need be so you can increase your calories.

    My Suggestion

Alex & Mods... I'd like to see a "Post of the week/month" thinger done. I mean, there are times that I see posts that are so insightful or so darn funny that the person just deserves recognition. I've seen it done on other forums and it is kinda neat. The post that made me realize this might be fun here is this one by our very own Wheetsin. I'm telling you, this is priceless and deserves recognition! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f109/excess-skin-questions-39989/index2.html#post578937

    Rice/Pasta on mushies?

The thing about rice is that it can expand in your stomach with extra Fluid in your stomach. Do you really want that and especially at this stage? With restriction it can get stuck in your stoma and expand in there. OUCH! Pasta is hard because it doesn't break down. What you get when you chew is all you get. Think about a cracker, it breaks down into tiny crumbs and then mush. Pasta doesn't really break down that way. Right now you are healing and it is CRITICAL that you don't barf at this point. It's just not worth it. And white rice and pasta have no nutrition, there is no value in eating it. You need to be eating things other than white carbs, something healthy. You are healing from surgery. I agree with Lauren. Those are not mushie foods, not even a little.

Was anyone banded in December of '06?

Thanks, Ladies! I'm really relieved. I wasn't sure this day would ever come. I have a tummy tuck scheduled for 12/3 and I think I might want to lose another 10 pounds or so. Plastic surgeon said not to lose more than that or I'll be sorry because my face will look like a shriveled up old hag. Okay, those weren't the surgeon's words but that's what I heard. So nope, not changing eating habits for a little bit yet. Although it was tempting to go buy a huge chocolate cake today but then I remembered, I've changed my ways! HA! So I'm sipping on my Chocolate/Raspberry Protein shake right now. But I'm going to give it a bit of a break for a week or two anyway and have some fun! At least my obsession with weight loss can come to an end!

    Drinking Water??

I just asked my surgeon about this the other day. He said that there is a mucous plug that forms in the stoma and that helps to keep food in longer. I asked just how much difference 30 minutes makes to form this plug and how effective the plug is and he said in his opinion, not a lot. I think the band manufacturers suggest it so the docs kinda sorta have to say the same. I drink tons of liquids before solids and it doesn't make any difference for me in the least. YMMV.
