Do You Agree With Brad ??

I just ran across a site the other day that blew my mind. Now, before I post this link I have to say that in no way does any intelligent atheist believe or assume this is mainstream and this is how your typical Christians behave. We KNOW this is NOT the case. I tend to think most people put forth some amount of effort to live their beliefs. With that said, check out this website. It will make your stomach turn. These are the type of folks Lauren might be referring to, those that are loud yet the minority. And if you are Christian and want to give these folks a piece of your mind, don't bother. You'll just be slam dunked, beaten with a verbal stick, and run off the boards. These people are not worth your time. I only post it to show what we deal with on a daily basis merely because we lack belief. These are the types of people that are in our face if they discover we lack belief: Quick Registration I read the following thread and about gagged, it's not even about atheists, just those that aren't the right color and in the medical profession (makes you wonder what they would think of me, white, atheist, and in medicine...heh): Quick Registration There are plenty of other threads that hate in the name of love when it comes to atheism. Again, I KNOW these are not your typical Christians, but these are OUR typical Christians. These are the people that tend to love us to the point of giving us the heebie jeebies. People wonder why atheists hate Christians. We don't, we don't hate them in the least. We don't like what we deal with when we actually tell people we lack belief because the above is what we encounter.

    Confused

Because it is your responsibility what goes in your mouth and you don't lose with restriction alone. A jar of frosting would go right down, so what does restriction have to do with food choices? It's no different from a diabetic who has the responsibility of counting calories AND measuring blood sugar four times daily. Some of us have to do it, some don't. Just because you have a band does not mean you won't absorb the calories that go in your mouth. You have choices, you can drink a milkshake or you can eat a piece of chicken. If you make poor choices you won't lose weight regardless if you have a band or not. There is no magic cure-all to weight loss. You do it or you don't.

I can understand that. As a person who lacks belief I don't understand how people can believe in something when there is no evidence. Please understand, I'm not knocking religion, each person has their own path. I just don't get it. I was raised theist but I never sincerely believed. I tried, I tried everything I knew to force myself to believe. But after time it is a bit like trying to force yourself to believe in the Easter Bunny. On a deep level you know it is man made and all the forcing in the world doesn't change the reality of your individual beliefs. Belief isn't like a light switch that you can turn on and off. It's there or it isn't.

Why do I do it to myself?

Sandy has a looooong reputation and it's not good. She has a small group of followers but until LBT we couldn't expose her. Her cheerleaders would have thrown a fit over truth being exposed. However, over here there is little they can do. There is no having threads deleted or harassing the person until they finally gave up and left as happens routinely on OH. They are stuck with truth whether they like it or not.

    Adding protein shakes

I would seriously urge you to go to your doctor and get some blood work. Namely, a chem panel. That kind of a muscle problem is often times from low potassium and if your potassium is low, you could die. It is sodium and potassium that make your heart beat, low potassium is common and it can be quite serious if not treated. One of the major symptoms is muscle cramping and before you go to the store and buy potassium supplements, don't. First of all you don't know if that is what the problem is. Also, the dose is soooo low in over the counter supplements it isn't going to do much good anyway. You need to get this diagnosed immediately. Don't waste time, do it in the morning! I'm not even going to discuss protein with you at this time, you need to get your labs checked. When a chem panel is done your protein is also checked. If it is low, it will show up. Please, do this.
  8. Certainly not liquids. Full liquids are whatever you can get through a straw. Those are soft foods.

    Arizona lap-band surgeons

Everyone makes mistakes and that includes doctors. There is no way around it, everyone is human and everyone makes mistakes. The true test of a doc (one that does not make mistakes on a routine basis, that is) is how they handle those mistakes. I used to work somewhere that we took care of long term patients. We had a few too many Dr. Blackstone patients in our care yet we had no patients of any other bariatric surgeon. Basically I disagree with the way she handles human error. However, those were all bypass patients and not banding. We never had a band patient of hers. Just a few of her bypass patients.

    Confused

I am a calorie and Protein counter. I don't have to but for ME it helps a great deal. It's not necessary, you need to do what works for you. One thing I usually suggest is that if you are not losing you might be consuming more calories than you think and for THOSE people many suggest tracking it. Sometimes we don't realize what we are consuming. If you are losing weight and not tracking food then don't worry about it. But the band really is a tool and not a magic cure. You need to find what works for you and stick with it.

    Very discouraged bandster

You might be too tight and have soft food syndrome. When you can drink your calories you might be shocked at how many calories you are actually consuming. Have you tracked EVERY single thing that goes in your mouth on Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate or another good site is FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. Both are free and both show you what you are actually consuming in calories. I'd guess that 99% of people are shocked at what they consume. Perhaps a bit of an unfill is in order?

    Starving to death!!

What kind of liquid diet are you on? What are you permitted to drink?

    Diet Pills?

Some docs do that but Dr. Aceves isn't one that agrees. Remember, the time between banding and restriction is called Bandster Hell for a reason. Hang in there, you can do this!!!
  17. WASaBubbleButt

    Newly banded and scared....

From past experience it sounds like you have a lot of swelling from surgery thus, restriction. You really shouldn't lay down after eating, people sometimes confuse reflux with a PB and it sounds like you are PBing on liquids. Feeling gassy and not being able to burp is another thing lots of us experience. Your stoma acts as a one way valve now, air goes down but it doesn't come up very well. It will come "out" though, give it time. Lots of walking, a heating pad, and sometimes people swear by sitting in a rocking chair makes a big difference in gas issues.

    completly discouraged

You really shouldn't go by my eating habits, they aren't great. I usually prefer Protein shakes one or two times a day but they really do kill my hunger. That doesn't always work for others. Then for dinner I have a mega salad. I'm talking HUGE. It takes me hours to eat but I love it. Tuna salad, veggie salad, chef's salad, something like that. Even with my mega salad I stick to 600 calories daily, also not what my doc suggests. Or Chinese food, mixed veggies, chicken (wanting to switch to tofu instead), etc. I avoid all white carbs. Rarely does a white carb pass my lips. That and exercise have been key for me.

Sorry, but I use "god" for everyone's god. Honestly, I find it a silly concept. The very logic used to create this god is the LAST logic anyone would use to pick stocks or things that matter on a day to day basis in this life. There are as many gods out there as there are people believing in them.

Julie, Once again 1/4 cup of food is not enough to get appropriate nutrition in.

    Weight A Minute!!!

But Julie, sick is not the same as anorexic. Anorexic would be like... 80-100 pounds, not 165.

    Adding protein shakes

It depends on WHICH liquid phase you are on. Clear liquids require something like Isopuke. But full liquids you can have any protein shake you wish.
