Researching Mexican Lap-Band Surgeons 101

I agree with you about speeding up the post op diet with one exception. I think if they shortened the clear liquid phase and lengthened the full liquids, I can see that. But soft foods and solids early? Not with my band. -

I think I have to disagree with that. The back is titanium and there is nothing that I recall covering the titanium. The reason for the metal is because when you go for fills if there wasn't metal on the back the needle would go all the way through the port. The metal stops it from doing that. The back of the port would lay against a muscle in your abdomen. It's sewn into the connective tissue above a muscle and below a fat pad. I don't believe there has been a confirmed case of an allergic reaction to the band to date. I agree with "TheFox" and what she says as well. Your doc should have a band and port he shows you before surgery. You can see it for yourself. I'm 99% sure I am correct about it not being enclosed. But look for yourself, every doc has an example port to show patients. They are provided by Inamed. What makes you think you are allergic to this material?

Researching Mexican Lap-Band Doctors 101

I just want people to do their research. There is soooooo much to research and much to know. Going to Mexico can potentially be better than the US for banding but you just have to know what to do and how to do it. I want to do another one on how to verify credentials, Mexican Gov't links, etc. I'm working on it. Lauren, up for more editing and formatting? -

JFTR... Lauren deserves half the credit for the time and effort into the first two posts. She did all the editing because we ALL know how well *I* spell and how great my grammar is. Thanks, Lauren! -

You don't unless you get it diagnosed under fluoro.

It depends on what your doc says. S/F is usually used during clear liquids. No sugar added is usually frozen fruit and that is for full liquids.

Yeah, I agree Laura. This one confirmed it for me. Troll.

How is your restriction? How is the grazing? How many minutes/hours are you doing daily of hard cardio and weight training? How many calories are you consuming? Are you tracking your calories or estimating? -
Could you eat this much in one sitting ???

Lap band in Mexico and fills in Arizona
WASaBubbleButt replied to need to lose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are a few. Debarros and Orris from Tempe will but you have to join their entire program, the nutritionist, psych, the works. It's about $1K when all is done and over. There is a nurse practitioner but I wouldn't go to her. She's a sweetheart and has a huge heart of gold and she's in Mesa monthly but the thing is, she doesn't use sterile technique. There are other issues but the sterile technique is enough. There is Dr. Berger in Flagstaff, he does fills for $100 and it's under fluoro. I quit looking when I decided to go back to Mexicali and have my own doc do them. So there may be more, I honestly don't know. -
HA! When I read the title I thought it said, "Pass the douche". I've been in medicine wayyy too long.

Who had the LEAST to lose B4 Banding?
WASaBubbleButt replied to Thin@Heart's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most US insurance co's will not pay for the surgery without a 35BMI w/comorbidities or 40 without. Don't be too quick to gain weight to have surgery. Some insurance co's require a 5 year history of 40 or better. The US is the only country that bands and requires such high BMIs. Everyone else requires 30 or more without comorbidities. -
Surgery Postponed due to Southern CA fires!!!

Wow, so sorry about that. But better safe than sorry. -
I think it is for a combination of reasons. I really didn't know what a good goal weight for me was so I picked a number within "healthy BMI". I think I might want to go down another 10lbs. I think people that start out quite large can't even begin to imagine themselves 200 or 400 pounds lighter. Then you have someone like Wendell. He was something like 560 for a starting weight. He's lost a TON of weight but due to being large for so long his bone structure changed. I'll let him give you measurements of his wrist as an example (I sent him a link but I know he's amazingly busy right now, not sure if he is checking emails or not). The widest parts of my ankles are the size of his wrists. I think people are afraid of failure. Aren't we all? Haven't all of us ever once wondered if *WE*, *our* population could actually get to a normal and healthy weight, ever? There are people that don't lose well and they justify it instead of working the band. So be it, it's their path. I'm going to be the size I want and I don't give a rats back side what the rest of the world thinks about it. But I have to admit, I have wondered if I really could ever get to this size. I'm still shocked that I did. There are so many head issues that go with losing weight. Oh, one other issue... higher BMI for a target means goal is faster. I have seen a few folks that I wondered if that was their issue. Faith, put your ticker back up. You choose the weight that is right for you, it's your body, your choice. Nobody says you have to reach THAT goal. You might be happier a few pounds heavier or you might want to go a few pounds lower. You really won't know until you get there.

My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
WASaBubbleButt replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in Rants & Raves
OMZ I saw that too. I couldn't BELIEVE what I was reading. I started to respond to that and realized it was useless so I didn't bother. -
There is absolutely no way anyone can answer this. Every doc has a different diet. You need to call your doc's office as the only way we could answer the question is to read the material you lost.

I now have another. Get the lap band so you can drink less and still get drunk. Saves money. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/drinking-lots-alcohol-43598/#post599357 -
True. I guess it goes back to when someone wants their life back badly enough, they'll do something about it. In the meantime it is one excuse and justification after another. Just like being fat.
