Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?

Because I couldn't give up all the carbs without my band. I couldn't give up bread, Pasta, bakery items, etc. without my band. I could do it short term but not long term. I *can't* eat bread or anything with a flour/yeast combo. It won't go down. The rest such as juice, etc. was will power at first. Now it's a way of life. I stick to healthier foods now because I can and it really doesn't take will power.

JJ... Might want to post this link while you are spreading that one around. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f11/lap-band-doctors-sonora-mexico-44596/index2.html#post629354 I think we should post stats, shall we?

Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?

It's not detoxifying as much as carbtoxifying. <--My new word, I just made it up). :fish: When you eat carbs it affects your blood sugar and you end up craving more and more. That's why your hunger is minimal while doing Atkins. You aren't having the blood sugar spikes AFTER you get into ketosis. I can't eat sugar, just can't. If I drink a glass of OJ in the morning I'm history for the rest of the day. I can't cram enough food in my mouth. If I only eat good carbs and cut out ALL white carbs and sugar I'm good to go. I am not hungry. But if I eat a candy bar, for example, I'm toast for the rest of the day. I spend the afternoon sitting on my couch like a big carb slug eating my way through evening. Doing liquids the right way (not drinking things with sugar and carbs) makes the post op diet much easier. You are only dealing with head hunger and not head hunger and stomach hunger. You lose weight, the diet is doable, you heal, you move on to the next stage.

Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?

While I understand your point I have to clarify something here. There is a difference between what you are talking about and those who frustrate us. Example... I can't do the pre op diet, it's just soooo hard! I can't make it ONE day with the pre op diet but liquids for 3 weeks after surgery... if you dare to mention the post op diet and how one cannot mess with the stages of the diet they come out fighting and acting like they know better than those with a band. They aren't looking for advice or support, they are looking for someone to validate their specific behavior. If someone can't make it through ONE day of a pre op diet, would I be correct to point out that they need to discuss this with their doc because post op is up to 4 weeks of liquids? Yet when I do that I am told I am not supportive and essentially I don't know what I'm talking about. Well, I do know what I'm talking about, I am supportive, and there is a problem here that NEEDS to be discussed with the doc before surgery. Not after surgery when eating solids caused a slip and the person has to go back into surgery. Isn't it better to prepare for this ahead of time? Or another favorite, "I am only eating 200 calories a day and doing hard cardio for two hours daily and I'm not losing a thing!" It's pretty hard to maintain a 400lb body on 200 calories a day and two hours of cardio and not lose a bloody pound in a month. It's quite unrealistic. When they finally write out their daily menu it is more like 2000 calories and hard cardio consists of running to the frig for more food. If you suggest they take a look at their daily menu then we are met with hostility and anger. What you are talking about and what we are talking about are two very different things.
  5. For banding? Or that guy that does mini gastric bypass? If it is the MGB guy, what a horror. Don't go there. He claims that with bands it is impossible to lose weight. Yet he doesn't tell that MGB isn't a hit in the US or any other country because of the high failure rate. He's a joke in the medical community.

    Lap-Band Doctors in Sonora Mexico

Yep, I know all about that person. There is a person here, Shirley, that had surgery the same day as Patricia. If the person writing that link actually knows Patricia she would know it was not an infection that happened but heart failure. Ever meet a person that has a LONG heart history and without weight loss they will have more heart problems and more heart attacks? How many heart attacks can a person have? There is a great deal more to that story. Such as a botched bypass job in the US that caused huge problems and US docs wouldn't touch her because she might mess with their stats. If you were an ethical doc would you just pass her off to someone else so your stats would look better or would you try and do what you could for the patient? It was kind of one of those situations. Me... I'd rather have a doc that is more concerned with taking care of patients in need vs. what it might do to my stats. Patricia, the family, and Dr. A knew the huge risks going into this. The patient and family wanted to at least try. The botched bypass job HAD to be repaired, no way around that. That meant a patient with many comorbidities had to be in surgery longer, more anesthesia time, more lots of things. The family was not angry with Dr. Aceves and they were actually IN Mexicali unlike the person that wrote the above. If the family was appreciative that someone TRIED, then the person that wrote the above is merely posting with an agenda. Actually, I don't think she was posting with an agenda. Ever meet someone that thrives on spreading bad news around? I have a sister that does that. I get the impression she liked making it appear as though she had a clue what was really going on. Truth is, she doesn't even know what all happened in Mexicali. The family does and they are not angry. I don't know the whole story but I know more than that poster wrote. And I know that the family of Patricia has since sent one of their other relatives to Dr. A for a band. If he was such a horror and killed their loved one, would the family of the patient that died send another person there? I mean, look at Dr. Gonzalez, he has a 4% erosion stat and that number came from Dr. G's office. Jennypoo posted the email she received from them a few weeks ago. While I admire the fact that he is honest about it I question why his stats are so very high yet the rest of the docs in Mexico (the good ones) have less than 1/2% erosion? You have to look at the whole picture, not a single issue. Unless you know all the details of a single issue it goes back to what someone was trying to do to Ortiz. One person screams out of 4000. Do we pay attention to one person or the other 3999? Especially when that person doesn't even come back to explain anything or answer questions? I also know of an infection that Dr. A had. Guy got a bypass and in LESS than 1 day after surgery his wife decided to sneak Mickey D's to her husband. With gastric bypass the stomach is stapled off and it needs time to heal or it will cause a leak and then an infection. He was on Clear liquids and IV fluids per Dr. Aceves and instead he ate a cheeseburger and soda. Guess what? He ripped out his staples, got a leak, and Dr. A had to take him back to OR and fix the leak and infection. Was that Dr. A's fault? Or the patient? The wife was running around telling everyone that Dr. A caused an infection. Well, he didn't. He didn't cram a cheeseburger down the guy's throat less than a day after gastric bypass yet the infection goes against his stats. It's just the way it works. The wife posting all this nonsense also doesn't mention that FIVE days after her husbands leak/infection she asked Dr. A do to her own revision. She had failed bypass (gosh, no clue why she wasn't successful in light of the cheeseburger incident!) and she asked for a revision to a band procedure. If Dr. A was such a horror why did she have him do her revision surgery from bypass to band five days after her own husband's leak and infection? People don't always tell the whole story. If you don't feel comfortable with Dr. A then I would suggest you not go there. You need to feel comfortable with your doc.

Yumm... out of the jar! Make them tiny pieces. It adds a zing and a tiny bit of texture/crunch to your Lemon yogurt. It doesn't take much, just a bit. I used to get the ladies at the coffee shop at a hospital to do this for me and they would gag the whole time they were cutting up pickles. But they did it for me. :scared: I couldn't help but to laugh. Losingjusme... I don't like 'em either. But in yogurt? YUMMY! Any other way, they are gross. And yes, dearie! The world revolves around me. My friend was banned last week and she's very happy. Well, she was until her Grandmother died the day after we got home. :fish:

See what a silly girlie you are? You don't dip them in ranch dressing, you cut them up itty bitty and mix them with lemon yogurt. Honest to zog, it's yummy and NO, I'm not preggers. Been doing it for 20 years and it's GREAT!

You SKANK! What kind of supportive person ARE you? You DARE to post food items on a bariatric support forum. Sheesh.... what kinda idiot are you anyway? That would be akin to posting a photo of a Butterfinger candy bar. Don't you know people here are trying to lose weight? What are you, some sort of food police? NO! Surely you are just an evil person trying to get us to eat twinkies cuz you dared to post a PHOTO of a TWINKIE! (this will be lost on anyone that doesn't read OH boards)

Mexico versus US for cash patients

I couldn't agree more. Many of the "cheapest" docs are cheap for a reason. They depend on price shoppers vs. those researching stats and history.

    Researching Mexican Lap-Band Doctors 101

Promoting docs is not neutral, it's promoting docs. Personally, I figure my doc can do his own advertising. This thread is to help people do their own research vs. depending on unknown people on a message board. Too many patient coordinators posting here. If you want to promote your doc feel free to start a thread but please, let this one be objective and neutral. Thanks. Also, thanks BlooEyes & JimmyJoe.

    Mexico ?

It's rough, there are two docs that I know of that are absolute horrors. Their infection rates, placing bands wrong, patients losing their bands... it's horrible. But any of their patients (and coordinators) will slam dunk anyone that points out the facts. I'm not much on believing individual stories (not referring to you, but a couple of newbie posters slamming doctors recently instead) but I do look at the whole picture. The stats that come directly from the doc's office. If they say their stats are X% and that is a high percentage, that is a concern. If a whole bunch of people are saying the same thing about the same doc, then I pay attention. We've had a couple of people come lately, newbie posters, one post each, absolutely trashing two different docs. Why should anyone believe it? You get some doc with a gazillion bands under his belt, fantastic stats, excellent history, what are we to do? As patients believe the one out of 4000 or the other 3999? I also look at the overall picture when it comes to aftercare, how much time does the surgeon stay in OR during surgery vs. having the asst. do the bulk of surgery, all kinds of issues have to be taken into consideration. My own doc had a patient who had bypass and less than 24 hours after surgery his wife decided to sneak in Mickey D's for him to eat. Well, he ripped out staples, got a leak, and an infection. The doc took him back to OR and fixed it. Didn't even charge the patient for the additional surgery or hospital days. Five days AFTER the leak his wife requested he do revision surgery on her. Failed bypass to band. She was running around posting on message boards what a horrible doc my doc is because her husband got an infection. Well, she didn't tell the rest of the story. She didn't tell anyone about Mickey D's, she didn't tell anyone that he reoperated and didn't charge the idiot a dime, she didn't tell anyone that she asked him to do her own revision AFTER her husband was reoperated on. So to hear her tell the story it sounds bad. I was in Mexicali that day and my friend and I met these people. Her husband told me the whole story and his wife was being so obnoxious that he was even apologizing for her behaviors and they hadn't even left the hospital. When these patients go telling their bits and pieces of the story the doc cannot possibly come and defend himself telling the rest of the story. So that's why I think it is important to look at the whole picture and not the individual stories people come up with. Some folks are amazingly good at not taking responsibility for their own actions. When people post these single posts trashing doctors and others go around copying and pasting them to other threads, it's obvious the intent of the people reposting this trash. Anyway... I got off on a tangent. My point is that you are right, you get some idiot doc and if you dare to tell the truth about them you are slam dunked. It's not stopping me though. I'll tell what I know about docs and if people don't like it, I don't care. They can continue creating fake IDs and chasing me around like little yappings dogs attached to my ankle. I'm doing what is right. Period.

    World has gone to PC

Aka... dark humor. There is a reason nurses and police officers get along well and it is because the two professions use dark humor all the time. Quite frankly, there are things I would say to another nurse or a policeman that I would never dream of saying in front of anyone else. It's not that anyone thinks it's funny... whatever the topic is. It's a coping method. You can either spend your time at work in tears or you can pretend something is funny and laugh. Again, nobody thinks it is funny, everyone knows it isn't. It is a coping method and nothing more. Unless you experience it and make a choice to cry or laugh, you just won't totally get it. Just like a naturally thin person will never understand being fat. Thin people are shocked that we don't just eat less, non policemen/nurses would be shocked at what we joke about. I'd provide examples but I think it wouldn't be wise.

    Lap-Band Doctors in Sonora Mexico

No, I have not. Read the link in my sig again. I explain it very carefully. I show how I did my own research. No, I don't play games with people who use multiple IDs. As I carefully explained to you earlier I will bend over backwards and help someone do their research. I won't play your games and that is just something you'll have to learn to cope with. You have only posted under this ID to run around annoying me like a little yapping dog attached to my ankle. You mean links to Mexican websites to determine if a doc is certified in bariatric surgery? HA! Do you have the slightest idea how silly you sound? I have news for you, we have the same links in the US for the same research. They aren't secret and this isn't a conspiracy. They are public links. I also explained that I will put together a list of these links. I'm amused that this concerns you. These are not inside sources honey, these are public links on the internet. I push research. I want people to research their surgeons, know their track records (and yes, sorry but that includes their stats), their history, their background, their EVERYTHING! Why is this such a horror for you? Most rational people would WANT people to do their research. Only a patient coordinator would not want someone to dig and get the info people need to make a decision on which doctor is best for them. No, I am not. Someone asked about three docs and I gave her my opinion of those docs. ORTIZ and Rodriguez. In that order. Belightweight does not exist anymore to my knowledge. Now, this is my last post to you. You have shown your true colors with your conspiracy theories, manipulation, and such. Don't you have a chew toy to play with? Of course, you could always post under one of your many other IDs, you know... the more well known IDs? Run along, we are done. I have yet to put anyone on ignore, feel special. You are a first.
