  1. My sis isn't vegetarian and when I made the yellow squash for her I mixed in a bit of Canadian bacon, she loved it. She won't eat anything.
  2. Wendy's Chili 2 lbs ground beef 1-29 oz can tomato sauce 1-29 oz can kidney beans (with liquid) 1-29 oz can pinto beans (with liquid) 1 C diced onion (1 medium onion) 1/2 C diced green chili (2 chilis) 1/4 c diced celery (1 stalk) 3 medium tomatoes, chopped 2 tsp cumin powder 3 Tbls chili power 1.5 tsp black pepper 2 tsp salt 2 C Water Brown ground beef in skillet over medium heat, drain off fat. Using a fork crumble the cooked beef into pea size pieces. In a large pot combine the beef plus all the remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer over low heat. Cook, stirring every 15 minutes for 2-3 hours. Makes 12 servings. Leftovers may be frozen for several months. For a vegetarian version just bump up the amount of beans, add some veggies (I would add broccoli, more onions, zucchini, etc.) and skip the hamburger.

    I have a rant.

Does the vet know what is causing the seizures? Seizures are not the problem, they are a symptom of the problem. I take it this is new for your dog? Is your furkid on Rimadyl? (A pain medicine for dogs)

    To re-port OR NOT re-port!

What kind of bacteria did you have growing? I'm assuming they did a C&S so they should have this info. I'm guessing MRSA? Were you given Vancomycin? When did you first notice something was wrong? Was this a clinic/hospital caused infection? If so, I darn sure wouldn't be going back there for more surgery. I'm very sorry you are having to go through this.

All those who get stuck shoveling snow....a question

I know all about snow. I was born in Iowa. I didn't move to AZ until I was in my 20s. I don't miss it, I don't like it, I hate shoveling the stuff, there is nothing nice about snow, chapped lips, a runny nose, layers of clothing... nope, not for me! My lemon tree is about ready to produce lemons. They are pretty well grown, now they need to become ripe before it freezes outside. I haven't had fresh lemons in three years due to our weather.

    Thin liquid stage question

Honestly, I'm not sure I know the difference your doc has in mind for thin liquids vs. clears. I can tell you what my doc does and maybe this will give you some thoughts. Days 1-5 Clear liquids only. broth, juice, Gatorade, Propel Water, S/F drinks such as Crystal Light, etc. Days 6-10 Clear liquids with thinned down Protein shakes made with water only, no milk. The idea of liquids is to NOT permit anything to stay in your pouch the way thicker liquids and solids would. You want no pressure or tension on your pouch. Days 11-20 Full liquids, if it will go through a straw you can likely have it. Days 21-30 Soft foods, if it does not require teeth to chew, you can likely have it. From that point on gradually reintroduce solids. Avoid eggs, some do eggs well but there are many experienced bansters that cannot possibly get an egg down. If you are going to experiment with questionable foods, wait until you are done healing. If you eat eggs and discover they don't go down, you'll only know that when they come back up again. It's critical that you don't barf and especially during the healing phase. I would call and get clarification because different docs use the same terms but mean different things. You might want to avoid ALL sugar and all white carbs during the liquid stage. It will mess with your blood sugar and in the end you will be so hungry you'll be climbing the walls. You WILL have head hunger eventually, if you are trying to battle head hunger and stomach hunger, you really risk caving and eating everything in sight. So eat what you want within the stage you are in. My doc wants 800 calories from the day of banding on, even though bandster hell. I totally disagree. I think people should stay satisfied within the diet stage they are in. Otherwise it's just too hard. But ... remember, that's my opinion and I'm not a doctor.

Starting to get a little freaked out....

I think it is okay to put it in perspective and this is not the same kind of risk as open heart surgery. I think it's also important to be realistic and yes, all surgery has a risk but some have a mega risk and this just isn't one of them but that is a GOOD thing!! If it is minor or major surgery, how will you take it differently? I mean, you said it needs to be taken seriously, so what are you doing differently for this surgery that you would say... open heart? Or brain mapping? There is nothing you can do. Have the surgery, lose weight, go on with your life. It's all good!

    Question About Aunt Flo

Nope, it will be fine. Women have surgery all the time while having their period. But I would suggest tampons vs. the alternatives for your own sake.
  9. I totally relate to your comment that you don't know what you'll eat. When I first became vegetarian I realized I was pretty darn hungry, there was nothing I liked that I could eat. It took a lot of trial and error but I eventually learned all kinds of things I really liked. Yellow squash, slice them the long way, scoop out the middle, replace with diced celery, garlic, bell pepper, onions, whatever you like. Put it back like a twice baked potato, bake, sprinkle with favorite cheese, you are done. It's cheap, it's healthy, it has flavor, and it's GREAT. Do the same thing with Zucchini. Spaghetti Squash... use like you would pasta, just try to avoid high cal cheese. But if you have to use cheese to get used to it, just try to find a low fat cheese. Again, cheap, healthy, band friendly, filling, and good. Salad w/o lettuce. Take all your favorite veggies that you would usually top a salad with and cut them up, marinate in Italian dressing, enjoy. Cheap, healthy, band friendly, filling, and good. Veggies & eggs. Veggie Chili. I have a recipe for Wendy's Chili. Make it without meat and add extra beans or veggies of your choice. There are all kinds of ideas. Just get the veggies you like best and start working with them and see what you come up with.

    Alcohol and the band????

If you have any mega liver damage it will not go as far as surgery. It will show in your pre op labs. No worries, if there is a problem you will know before you ever get as far as OR.

Show us the post where I claim to have done my own fills. Com'on, after stirring the pot NOW you want to go to bed?

Perhaps it is a good idea. Go to bed. Just stop throwing around these silly accusations. The thread is not hard to find. You have the name of it, now show me the posts where I claim to have done my own fills. THEY DON'T EXIST! You are just throwing pooh at a fan to see where it will land. A little honesty wouldn't hurt you any. What I wrote is that I did an emergency UNFILL! I was overfilled, I called every ER in Phoenix and the suburbs, no ER knew what to do with an Inamed port. I called my doc, he's in Mexico and that was 3.5 hours away. I called everyone I knew, nobody knew what to do. I was barfing every 20 minutes unable to keep my own spit down and it had been this way for hours. I was developing a tear in my esophagus and I was barfing blood from the tear. I could have died from such a tear if I would have let it continue. A Phoenix ER could have given me IV fluids, that would not stop the barfing or the tearing of my esophagus. I am a nurse, I exhausted all my options at that point in time (it was 3AM). I finally unfilled myself using sterile technique since I am trained to access ports. My doctor knows about it because I told him. Now, do you honestly think I give a rats back side what you think? Do you? If you have a problem with that kind of an emergency situation? Guess what? I don't care. I couldn't care less what you think. But you have turned the above into something where you claim I have done my own fills. Guess what? Screw you and your little white horse. If I was trying to hide it do you honestly think I would have started a freak'en thread about it? Are you seriously that dense? I thought it was a good opportunity to see what alternatives there were and you know what? We came up with other options in case it happened to someone else. By the time someone gets to your age you should know full well that if you are going to make silly accusations such as you have, you better be prepared with some sort of evidence. You don't have that. How you turned an emergency unfill done in the middle of the night after all other options were exhausted to doing my own fills is freak'en beyond me.
  14. I like Dillards. They have their own brand called Westbound and I really like their jeans. Besides, it's a real ego boost! If their jeans say they are a size 10 they are really a size 12. They are comfortable, wash well, wear well, and are not ridiculously expensive. They have something for everyone. I was buying cheap clothes at first but you know what? No more. I'm getting the good stuff because I am looking good. I love my new clothes. Went out of town the last two weekends and took a ton of clothes because I couldn't decide what to take. I wanted them all. So I brought them all.

Post your proof or admit you are a liar. It's not hard to do. Now feel free to find the post where I claim I have done my own fills x2. I'll wait. That is a mighty nasty accusation you have PMed me with and posted. It's not like saying someone ate a cookie. Doing your own fills is pretty damn dangerous on more levels than you likely realize. However you have claimed twice now that I have done that. No proof, just more of your silly accusations that you seem to throw around - about not just me, but silly accusations of others as well. Time to pony up, prove your claims. Or stop being dishonest. I do not believe you that you didn't read the PM, otherwise you wouldn't have known I told you to never PM me again. You were most upset when I told you to essentially buggar off, you didn't understand why I was pissed. What idiot deletes PMs after making wild accusations about another? Are you completely and totally incapable of honesty? EVER?? Grow up for goodness sakes! Stop making wild accusations. If you aren't sure of something then BE freak'en sure before you start this crap! Again, maybe it isn't everyone around you. Maybe the problem you are having is you. Ya think?

Too much weight lost in the first week

All is good. Lots of people are upset and concerned by this. You have to put it in perspective. When you first start losing weight the first thing to go is Glycogen. That is a type of carb stored in muscle and your liver. It takes 4 grams of Water to burn one gram of glycogen. So 80% of your weight loss is water, 20% is glycogen. THEN comes fat. Bump up your Fluid intake. You probably will lose 15-20lbs of FAT in the first couple of weeks, but water and glycogen come first. Take advantage of this time of easy weight loss! Go for that walk!!!! Get some easy exercise. Weight will never come off this easily again so take full advantage of it and enjoy!

    Waking up during surgey

Very true. People wake up in OR but they are supposed to wake up in OR. With the draping people have no idea what is going on. They think because they woke up in OR that means they woke up during surgery. Not true. Most people, we want them to wake up in OR, they don't usually remember but those that do think that shouldn't have happened. Not true again. People are usually waking up while bandages and such are being placed. They feel pulling and tugging and believe surgery is still going on. In reality they feel the staff cleaning them up and taping incisions, bandaging incisions. Again, we WANT people to wake up exactly when they do. Look at all the banded nurses here. You think any nurse would willingly get surgery if this thread were the least bit accurate? If this thread represented reality, you show me one nurse that would be willing to go have this done. I darn sure wouldn't. Also, keep in mind that one of the biggest story tellers on this thread got her account suspended. You have to take things with a grain of salt. Between story tellers and false memories, you can't depend on that when looking at your own surgery.

All those who get stuck shoveling snow....a question

You know, Darl'en, I do believe that cold, wintery, chilly, snow ridden, unhealthy, freezing your butt off kind of weather is affecting your mood. Have you considered a nice bright lamp with one of those light bulbs that makes your brain think you actually have sunshine? Might improve your ... disposition a bit. At least the winter side of yer "mood". BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm sure you did think I was nasty. I was very insulted by what you wrote. You wrote that I did my own fills and I most certainly do not! You have yet to prove your claims! I told you that you were a pain in the butt and not to PM me again and I probably told you to buggar off as well. Now I find out that you are annoying others too. Really, maybe it's not everyone else around you. Perhaps it is just you. I know of two others that you PMd that don't want you contacting them again.
  21. I just realized you said you are a vegetarian. I can relate to not liking many veggies, I was a vegetarian for many years as well. Thing is, you are using fillers now instead of quality food. Ever read about dog food? It's full of fillers and not much nutrition. So the idea is to buy a better quality dog food. We need to do the same. Skip the diced chicken suggestion on your salad and throw a few black beans in there. If you like pasta you will likely enjoy spaghetti squash. I love it and I hate everything. Instead of meat sauce, marinara sauce. Even Alfredo sauce if that is what it takes to get you used to better foods vs. white carbs. Do you eat any fish? Or is that out too? The veggies.. it's hard to get used to eating them but if you work with it and don't try to choke down what is gross, you should be able to find things that are good. It does take trial and error. Yellow squash raw... on top of salads. Try a variety of dressings such as Chinese Chicken Salad Dressing for a bit of flavor, it's still veggie. If you stick to better quality foods you can eat a much larger quantity of them. And quite frankly, you need to do that due to nutrition issues right now. I have known people that were obese and suffering from malnutrition. My sis was one of them. Malnutrition doesn't mean a lack of calories, it means a lack of nutrition. I think we eat in such a way for so many years that we don't really know how bad we feel anymore. I'm just throwing out thoughts here. I've been where you are, I fully understand. I'll do anything I can to help. Sometimes when making big changes to your diet you need to do it in steps. Gradual steps. Changing everything over night doesn't always work. So take it one step at a time. Also... what about a fill? Do you supposed a fill might be in order?
  22. My personal opinion is that if I were you I wouldn't even worry about going low carb. I would focus on GOOD carbs in your diet. Your diet... do you realize that if you were a child eating that diet you likely wouldn't grow? ;) There is very little nutrition in your diet. The bad carbs just turn to glycogen and sit there waiting for you to use them. Your food is... empty. Loaded with fat and calories but very little nutrition. You eat the way I did before I was banded. We ALL ate that way for the most part or we wouldn't be fat. You are correct, it really shouldn't matter where the calories come from as long as we are counting calories. I don't claim to have the least bit of understanding when it comes to that. The field of nutrition is changing on a daily basis. Horrible as this sounds, I don't even put a lot of stock into what NUTS say. Their field changes with each study that is completed. What I know is what works for me. When I eat crap foods I crave more crap foods. When I eat healthy foods (after time) I began to crave healthy foods. When I load up on white carbs I become a big, fat, couch slug. When I eat healthy carbs I have the energy to do anything I want. I can go running, power walking, anything I choose. What if you just try this... knock out all white carbs from your diet. Flour, sugar, rice, pasta, potatoes, anything like that. Cut it ALL out from your diet. Try it for a week. I'm not saying count carbs or stop all carbs. I'm suggesting dumping the white carbs for a week and see what happens. It's not easy! Actually, the first three days are hard, very hard. You'll feel like climbing the walls and you'll be hungry, moody, and maybe even nasty. It's part of it. I bet you a cyber dollar you'll notice a change in your scale. I don't know why it works. I just know that if I eat white carbs the scale doesn't move. If I stick to healthy carbs the scale moves. It shouldn't, it really can't. But it does.

I don't think you are telling the whole story here, Sue. We have been comparing notes and you didn't just send snitty and nasty (not to mention untrue) PMs to me, you've been spreading the joy around to several people. You have been making all kinds of people angry and annoyed. Nobody is jumping your stuff because you asked a question, far from it. Truth is you have a thing about PMing people, telling untruths, then you are given a dose of your own medicine, then you run away crying that everyone ELSE is mean. Hmmm... might want to ponder that one for a bit. I think with time you might figure it out.

All those who get stuck shoveling snow....a question

Snow? What's that? I believe I heard of it once. I have my windows open, the birds are singing, the weather is nice. I haven't a clue what you people are talking about. (Cackle cackle)
  25. I'm with the others here regarding carb intake. You can't use white carbs for fuel and expect good things to come of it. Do you know that you eat more carbs in a day sometimes than I do in a month? I'm referring to the bad carbs. Your diet is loaded with bad carbs and hardly any good carbs at all. Pasta, muffins, sugar.... I really can see why you aren't noticing a bigger difference on your scale. Another thing I notice, you can eat two cups of pasta? That's quite a bit of pasta. And where is the nutrition in your food? Two cups of pasta and parmesan cheese? What are you eating that is good for you? Look at the second day's menu. Where is the nutrition in your food? There isn't any. coffee, pasta, cheese, cheese pizza and a mocha bar? Do you realize you ate 4 times more carbs than you did Protein? What if... Keep your coffee for breakfast. I know coffee drinkers like that a great deal. Instead of flour based pasta, how about Spaghetti squash? Eat as much as you want at first so you don't feel deprived. If that means the whole darn thing, so be it. At least you are getting some nutrition in. Put a little meat sauce or marinara sauce on it instead of lots of cheese. Instead of pizza, how about a fancy loaded salad? Lots of fresh veggies, diced chicken, something with nutrition. Instead of a mocha bar, an apple, or an apple and a pear, or an apple, a pear, and a banana. If you are going to load up on carbs, at least make them good carbs. I'll bet you that if you cut out all white carbs the pounds would start melting.
