Hi Newbies! I've been banded 21 months. Let me know if you have any questions.
WASaBubbleButt replied to juliegeraci's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's not a matter of weight loss at this point as much as healing. Your stomach is swollen and irritated right now, alcohol is an irritant. It's not a wise idea at all to be drinking alcohol at this point. I'd call your doc and get his opinion, I'll bet it will be a "no" to alcohol just yet. -
What in the world does English have to do with it? Your "friend" is copying your posts word for word and posting them as her own. Looks a lot like multiple IDs to me.

HELP: how to make Nectar protein tasty?
WASaBubbleButt replied to Zannie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You know, I was offered a job with Syntrax, makers of nectar and while it is a GREAT quality product, one of the better products, I couldn't stomach them and that is one of the two reasons I didn't take the job. The Lemonade (to me) smells like if you took smelly socks and put old cheese in them and let them get ripe. Gahhhh.... (Yes, it did take some time to pinpoint that odor <g>) The newer versions of Nectar... chocolate and Vanilla... Can't stand the Vanilla but the Chocolate is pretty good if you add Da Vinci S/F Chocolate syrup. The syrup kills the aftertaste and it tastes like Nestles Chocolate Milk. The quality of Protein really is excellent with Syntrax products (Nectar and Matrix 5.0) but good luck getting them down. Well, except the Chocolate Matrix 5.0. That's one of my favorites and have used it with Da Vinci S/F Raspberry syrup. That's some good stuff. But the others... gahhhhh. IOW, I don't believe I am any help to you! ;o) -
Barfing causes swelling, more swelling causes more barfing. It's a cycle that the only way you can break it is with liquids. You'll have to follow your doc's advice. If you don't you are just prolonging this. :mad2:/

A fill needle (Huber) is between $1.50 and $5.00.

I don't know anything about the particular place you mention but overall, taking advantage of fat folks by bariatric surgeons is one of my hot topics as well. It really annoys me. Some are no different than those who sell "sweating suits" to lose weight, or Hoodia, or any of the other many products out there designed to take our money but let us keep the weight. I don't believe most docs are like that at all, but a handful... grrrrrr.... Doctors are people like everyone else and a small few are bad but again, I think most docs are trying to do a good job for their patients.

Here is a link to something I wrote (and don't want to retype) about the post op diet: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f11/researching-mexican-doctors-101-a-43575/#post599207 -
My PCP is Thomas Fiel in Tempe. He's great about bands.

Shirley... Haven't heard from you in a long time. There is group going down there on the 29th, I believe for fills. You are welcome to join us and have them take a look under fluoro. Please call me. I might be able to help.

Nope, not yet. Just a birth certificate and DL. The closest good surgeon in Mexico to AZ is Dr. Aceves. BTW, if you are in the Phoenix area you should join our bandster lunches we have about once a month. There are people there that had surgery by all kinds of different docs in Mexico, AZ, and CO.

Slips from messing up the post op diet don't typically happen until much later, months down the road. -
A lot of people don't know what goal weight they want to be. They set it for between 18-24.9... a healthy weight average for their body build. Then when they get to the upper limits of "healthy" they (like me) realize that's not enough. I got to where I want to be. In my case I am still losing slowly and I really don't want to so I need to fix that. My plastic surgeon said he'll remove about 10# in my tt & lipo. That will put me at a BMI of 21.3 and that is a little lower than I prefer for my body build. I added a ticker to my sig to shame me into doing things right. ;o) It worked for me when I wanted to lose, maybe it will work for me now that I don't want to lose.

That's my hunch. I'm ALL for telling the truth about doctors (good and bad) but to do this is wrong. I sent it to a moderator, we'll see what happens.

Thank you. I worked really hard, busted my butt w/cardio, and cut out all white carbs. It really works! Good luck to you!

Whoa... wait a minute. You just posted this on another thread, word for word, under UtahBand. What's up with that? http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f11/who-should-i-pick-mexico-51641/#post759991

How to shrink a streched pouch?!?!?!?
WASaBubbleButt replied to phlyinphebee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Usually for a dilated pouch they UNfill you and put you on liquids for a few weeks. That gives the pouch time to go back into place. The thinking being less restriction vs. more is that you want nothing staying in the pouch to hold the size large, everything should pass through immediately such as liquids. -
I am sorry you are going through this. Sadly, you are not the first this has happened to.(

They are double packaged, one layer for non sterile and the 2nd layer is for the OR. I can see that part, but most surgeons don't have xray vision ;o) and they have no idea what band they will place until they actually see your stomach in OR. Well, they might have an idea but they don't know for sure until they see your anatomy.
-
How did Dr. Huacuz know which size he was going to use on you before surgery? Inamed will pay surgical costs as well if the band is defective and they are at fault.

No Dr Haucuz Please
WASaBubbleButt replied to utahband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't believe I understand. Your friend had a band placed incorrectly, he placed it in such a manner that her O2 levels were compromised, it was on her esophagus, it slipped, she had to have it replaced weeks after surgery yet you find him competent from speaking to him on the phone? Out of curiosity, ... how do you figure? -
Roommate saw I was on Lapbandtalk.com...Came to my room to tell me it's wrong!

Sometimes it feels like naturally thin people believe we prefer a donut over thin. They just don't get it. -

WASaBubbleButt replied to lucartwlucy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
If the band was placed incorrectly it will usually show on a barium swallow. The band position, etc. If there are not enough sutures, etc. then it would show when they do surgery to correct the problem. With that said, there are some docs who don't want to do barium swallows after surgery because on film the band "looks" like it is too high. In reality it isn't, it's just the way the band is positioned and the stomach sewn over it. Most bariatric surgeons know full well how it works but a lot of radiologists don't and they misread the films. I know Dr. Curry from Ohio has mentioned this before and he said this is one reason he doesn't do routine barium swallows after surgery, he doesn't believe the films are read correctly by radiology. -

Well, first time I saw this poster's frustration with the band they just said it was a slip. I asked for details but they did not respond. Now they are saying the slip was caused by the band being placed wrong. If the band was placed wrong it needs to be taken care of ($$) by the doc that did it. But if it was a slip from PBing, etc., that's not the doc's fault. Not enough info yet. -
I rarely eat red meat but if I do, I cut it up verrrrry small. chicken, semi-small. Fish... different story. ;o) If you are a newbie I'd be cutting things up in tiny pieces and with time you'll learn what you can tolerate and what you can't.
