I'm going to be a rough but I've got to say it. So, you are obese and your wife doesn't support your effort to get a tool to help you to take control of your life??? Wonder what her thoughts will be when she calls 911 when that heart attack comes. Or, how will she treat you when you go blind from diabetes??? How 'bout when the doctor tells you they will have to amputate your foot because of diabetes??? Terrible thoughts I know but they are real for the obese. I was going stinking blind as a result of diabetes and obesity. Put on you big boy britches, call the whole family in and tell them DAMMIT I'M DOING THIS BECAUSE I WANT TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! We only have one life, make the most of it. You are like the rest of us here, we sat and watched. Well, I did a 12.2 mile 20 obstacle course 1 year from surgery. I'm not sitting on the sidelines anymore.

If I use a Walmart card or our local grocery stores card we can get gas for about $3.35.

It was about this time a year ago I was taken back for my surgery. I really wasn't nervous at all and I really didn't know what to expect after being banded. I only knew I was a huge man and I was tired of not being a active person I wanted to be. it hurt me to know that people saw me as a obese man. I didn't realize then I was treated different because of my size. I want to say this has been a year more of self discovery than anything else. Though it has not been a perfect year with ups and downs with diet, exercise and motivation. I can honestly say, my life is so much better this year than probably the previous 18 or so years. For those that have been banded or those thinking about it, know this, it's a journey of self exploration. It is a journey ofnyou finding out things about you that you didn't even know. As you take this journey open your body, soul and spirit to new experiences. If you live in the city, take advantage of the arts. Take advantage of fun runs, join a league team. Just open yourself up. If you live in a rural area, enjoy the nature God has blessed you with. You can become a mentor to others and support them in their journey in weight loss. We know more about losing weight than most doctors do. Help someone else, even if they haven't been banded. I will finish here but I'd like to say, may God richly bless each and everyone here.

Clarks you too will have a wonderful story about your journey into self exploration. Just remember to stay with the program and work the program. There will be days of the good, the bad and the ugly but there will always be a tomorrow that can be a great day for you. It's a marathon and not a sprint.

I should posted I lost 30 pre-op and then the 80 since surgery. All I know is my shirts do not require 3 X's, 2 X's or even a X in front of the L any longer. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I have lost 80 pounds this past year. My motivation has waned the past couple of months but I'm back on track now. I want 15-20 more pounds and I'll be at my goal weight. I want to get to the point where I'm no longer classified as obese or overweight. I'm close. Real close.

If i I was exercising 6 days a week a couple hours a day I saw small weight loss. I wasn't really concerned as I'm nearin my goal weight. 20 more pounds. But keeping up that pace was and is difficult. I went for my 1 year check up and what I thought would be a 1/2 to 1 cc fill. I was really amazed it turned out to be a 3 cc fill and probably should have been a 4cc fill. It was explained to me my stomach has shrink and the band wasn't restricting like it should.

I Don't Get This About Drinking After Eating...
TexasJeff replied to Kellysue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh fiddle sticks. I drink when I eat. If you only have a saucer of food, what's the difference. I only drink like a cup while I eat instead of the usual 32oz before bein banded. -
I have a similar job as you. I'm a engineer on the railroad. I sit for more than 12+ hours at least 5 days a week and the other days are layover days. The Lap Band is not magic that will allow you to lose weight and keep it off. I had to learn no matter how many hours I work I. A week, you still have to work the program of diet and exercise. This is a must. If you aren't willing to actually have a change in your lifestyle, don't do it. If you want to change everything about your life, then do it.

Labor Day Weekend Bbq ...
TexasJeff replied to PattyGirl66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you. I know I can't eat as much but I am very picky of what foods to eat at events like this. At a BBQ ill opt for 1 rib, a spoon of tater salad, a spoon of Beans, maybe a slice of brisket. Then dessert round is, whatever I can basically scrape of the spatula or spoon the Desserts were served with. Believe it or not I usually stay at about 1,000 calories for the day. -
I started drinking sodas and had no problems. Then knowing I was told not to I've quit and have had a soda in about 4 months. I drink a lot of the Arizona diet teas. Green tea, peach tea and the iced tea lemon ade. I foun the big cans of tea at Walgreen and cost .99. Great when they have them o. Sale 2-$1.00. Soda are habit forming. It's the something in the hand or something to drink in the car thing. The teas give me that habit satisfaction.

Welcome. You'll find a wealth of information in this site. The lapband isn't again cure. You still have to do the work to lose the weight. Start with a daily exercise routine. If you start out now it'll be easier later.

I like the Monster Rehab iced tea-lemonade and the red tea ones. They are very low calorie, non-carbonated and taste great. Red Bull is a acquired taste. Rockstar, BLECH!!!

Got about 40 grams of protein and all the Vitamin benefits of the fruits.

I don't think I'm much different than most of you here. What I've learned is healthy eating + exercise= a healthy life an lifestyle. Well, my lifestyle sucked as I ate everything and no exercise. Result, obesity and WLS. Since WLS I've learned I have to eat the GOOD food and exercise. Simple. Now I'm sitting here n a Doctora office waiting on my wife to have a procedure done. It's just after lunch and ie noticed every person working I the office coming in carrying a bag of fast food and 44oz soda. Should our health professionals be more informative in diet and exercise. I heard on TV most doctors only have 1 class for 1 semester on diet and the nutritional value of foods.

Doctors Office And Healthy Eating.
TexasJeff replied to TexasJeff's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great post Rhonda. My wife had surgery a couple years ago. The doctor told me to go eat lunch as it'll be 4-5 hour surgery. The hospital had a food court that would rival any malls food court. McD's, pizza Hut, Jalisco Taco's, Subway. I was shocked. I guess the hospital is investing in the future. Eat that stuff and you need a new heart valve ore something. -
