Imus show suspended due to racial comments

I believe that the hip hop music culture itself promotes racist and biggoted attitudes in general. And since it does not go out to one individual but many young people in our society it pervasively influences core values and belief systems. It really bugs me to hear a black man refer to a woman as a "ho" but if they don't begin to respect women & women of color, how can we expect cultural views to change?

    Hello

Trish, I felt that too. Gas & tightness. It felt like I needed to burp but couldn't. Walking helps.

Cosmo Magazine article on the band

Im with you Janine, I felt pretty rough for about 7-10 days and was not 100% for a month. Everyone is different. I had the referred shoulder pain, tightness, incision discomfort and port pain. It wasn't intolerable. I didn't take narcotics after I came home but it wasn't a walk in the park either.

    March '07 Bandsters Union

Hey March Bandsters! Wanted to check in & see how everyones progress has been. My surgery was March 12, 2007 and I feel much better than I did a month ago. I am trying to folow the food rules. Yes, I need to drink more Water and get some walking in. I lost 10 pounds the week after surgery. Over the past month though I have only lost 2 pounds. It seems that my body is holding onto the weight for some reason. this is frustrating!!! It is still a month before I get my first fill so I am trying to go it alone. My first fill is under flouro. I hope to get good restriction. How is everyone else doing?

    Hello, I Finally Joined!

Melissa, If you are getting plenty of Protein, it sounds like you do not have enough Fat in your diet. We need a certain amount of fat to keep our skin supple and our hair intact. Do you take Vitamins? This was one thing my Dr. cautioned me about. Congrats on the weight loss! I am so impressed. I just had my surgery March 12, 2007 and initially lost 10 pounds. For the last three weeks I am at the same weight. I am counting calories to be sure about what I am eating. Glad you joined!
  6. Obviously, mom's buttons got pushed. I agree with Wendell. Be upfront with her. By the way, this isn't the "easy way out."

Alaine, I know how demoralizing it can be to struggle with the weight. I was just banded in Mexico as a self pay. I am just beginningthis journey but am grateful to have the band to assist me. I felt so powerless before. Good luck to you!

Hi Southern Girl! I had my surgery on 3/12/2007 so we are on the same time line! I have noticed that since my abdominal swelling is subsiding that I am feeling hungry also. I am trying to be careful not to overeat because my first fill is not until the 27th. I have to travel to Dallas for my first fill. Good luck on your journey and let me know how it is going! Bonjoevs, I was a self pay. Went to Mexico for surgery.
  10. ISABELLE290, Dr. Huacuz in TJ did my surgery. While I was there another nurse had surgery at the same time. She had complications due to a hernia repair. She was sick vomiting all night and tore her sutures holding the band and damaging her hernia repair. Dr. huacuz did her surgery over again the next day and repaired the hernia as well as placed a new band and did not charge her a cent. If you want to know more, please email me a private message and I will be as honest about my experience as I possibly can.
  11. Can anyone tell me the chances of a slip with a band that is sutured in place as opposed to those that are not? My Dr. sewed my band in place with 5 sutures. He told me that scar tissue would form around the sutures and help prevent slippage. I keep reading about people that have had their bands slip after one vomiting episode. Although I have not been sick, I am scared to death of complications. I was a self pay and want to do everything I can to lower the risk! Thanks!

    encouragement help, please

It does get better. My Dr. had me on full liquids so I was able to drink BOOST & Slimfast which have more Protein than Clear liquids. You can buy Protein powder to add to broths at GNC, I think. I was on liquid diet post op for 21 days then began advancing to soft mushy foods. You can get pretty creative by that time. Congrats on your surgery. IT gets better every day for me. HANG IN THERE!:nervous

    North Louisianians???

Congrats TM1019! I know that you are probably feeling rough but it gets better rather quickly. I have read posts from folks that said they were GREAT after 3 days but it took me about 10 days to feel like myself. As far as liquids, I felt the same way but stuck it out. I want my band to heal. Now that I can have more choices I actually still choose some creamed soups. Funny. Take care.

    Insisions

Suture Question. I had my surgery on 3/12/2007. My Dr. told me not to remove the stitches for 14-15 days. This is much longer than usual sutures remain in for most things. They are a little red. I am cleaning them good. Someone that had surgery the day after me removved hers today after conferring with a friend. Any advise?
  18. rdbiles, Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I didn't anticipate these little aches & pains this far out so it is reassuring to know that others have gone through it. Thanks again for the reply.
  19. Hey all you recently post op bansters! I was banded in Mexico on the 12th of March. My shoulder pain is subsiding but I am having pulling pain at my port site. Of Course, I still have my stitches. It is making me nervous. I was really wxcited about the band and now I am thinking about possible complications or problems. Guess I just need a little reassurance. Thanks, kim

    North Louisianians???

Hello All, just got back from Mexico with my band and I have to say I am doing 100% better tha I was my first few days. I was banded on the 12th as I expected. Anyone anticipating traveling a great distance, needs to take into account flight delays and maybe staying a day or two extra. The flight back with all the CO2 gas in my chest was quite uncomfortable. I did not vomit, PB, or slime at all. Just soreness & lots of gas. I am looking forward to progressing to soft foods 2 weeks from now. Just wanted to let you know it went well.

    March 2007 Bandsters

Dear Mommy 202, When you say you are bulemic, what do you mean. Do you occasionaly stick your finger down your throat to purge after a heavy meal OR are you COMPELLED to do it every time. I tried that in an effort to control my weight as it spiralled out of control. When my husband found out about it he made me promise to STOP & I never did it again. My problem was more with consumption than anything else. I was banded on the 12th. I am 50 pounds to goal. I was 188 prior to my preop diet. I am now 170, at 7 days post op. I wouldn't want to vomit on a bet. Someone that had surgery the same time I did had a hernia that was repaired. The swelling obstructed the band and nothing could get down. She had a second surgery to repair the tear and broken stitches from VOMITING. Very scarey. You dont want the band to slip, or erode your stomach. They just want you to be OKAY! I hope everything goes well with you. I know how frustrating this is. GOOD LUCK!

    March 2007 Bandsters

Hi! I am 5 days post op. I had my bad done in Mexico. The plane ride home was long and very uncomfortable. I am grateful to be home. I am following the liquid diet but am hungry. I know its not allowed but I would love pureed potatoes. It sounds so good to me after the yogert, jello, juice regimen. The pain from the CO2 gas is diminishing somewhat. I have lost 10 pounds from the liquid fast pre/post surgery. Any tips that will make this first few weeks easier would be appreciated!

    North Louisianians???

Hi! I am from Shreveport. I am getting banded in Mexico on the 12th of this month. I have researched this extensively. I am an RN so I wanted to really check out my surgeon. Anyway, I was looking for follow-up care near home and having some difficulty. I had called Dr. Hekier's office in Texarkana but they do not fill Mexical bands any longer. My Dr. has referred me to someone in Garland, TX that does all fills under fluro. I am releived to find follow up care. I am looking forward to posting with other folks from my own backyard!
  25. Hi! Im new to this. In fact, I am getting banded on March 12, 2007 in Mexico. I have checked out the doc & he is reputable. I was wondering if anyone knew of physicians that would do post op fills without charging a fortune?:help:
