Welcome to the board! Wow! Only 2 days of liquids. Well you will have plenty of time post op for liquids. I read everything I could on lapband & scoured this board like crazy. Try to stick to the diet as much as possible. It will help in your recovery. Good Luck!

Funny, I just posted about this on another thread! I was banded in Mexico, so alas, no support meetings locally for me. I use this BB for support. My Doc in Mexico just began a BB on his website though. One of my friends does go to a local group for lapbanders. He is the only male & feels a little uncomfortable. If you have a good group that discusses relevant issues, I think its great!! What I love about the BB is I can read past posts of people hthat have experienced what I am going through, & the support is wonderful! The added bonus is with my scedule, I can "attend" anytime.

BJ, I think the 0.5cc more that I got made the difference. I think some of the first fill goes into the tubing, if it is not already primed. Anyway, girl, you will get there!!!! A friend of mine, her Doc. does smaller but more frequent fills. He started with 1cc the first fill, & then every 2 weeks, he does a smaller fill until she reaches restriction. I didn't even get a folow-up appointment. They just told me to call when I needed a fill. I use this board as my primary support system. I don't have a local aftercare group, since I was banded in Mexico. However, my Doc in Mexico has just started a BB on his website for his patients which I think is very COOL!

So sorry to hear about your difficulties. I know it is frightening to have complications! I would not be able to afford a revision, if I needed one. Congrats on your weight loss success. :clap2: My Doc told me that if I continue to eat the banded way I will not gain any weight even if I have the band removed. My concern is "hunger". :hungry: I hope everything works out the way you would like it to & you can have another child.

LIASIA, We are close to the same time out with our surgery. You are just 5 pounds under me. That is still good weight loss! You may see some changes after your body adjusts to your fill. How many calories do you eat? Portion sizes? Exercise? Everyone is different, & loses at different paces but I think its great that you have lost 15 pounds!!! CONGRATS!!! Hang in There!

Snuggles, it is so weird how everyones body is different! I have restriction right now. It didn't seem to happen until 5 days after my fill. I might be like JACK that posts here, and smaller fills may do the trick for me. Anyway, for right now, it is good. We went out this weekend & I had baked fish which I can usually eat with no problem. Well, I guess I was eating too fast & it felt like I was swallowing an elephant! I didn't get sick but it brought tears to my eyes! Well, I will practice eating SLOWER!!! I still have an appetite. I see things the kids eat & it looks good. I need to avoid junk food. NO ICE CREAM, which I love but have difficulty with moderation. How much weight have you lost so far?

Banded but not losing weight
babylovestoys replied to Rainbow Days's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lisa, I was one of those that did lose, but my Dr. warned me that I may not. He was more concerned about the healing process. Of Course, I wanted to get the show on the ROAD! My body is weird! I will not lose any for three weeks, then it suddenly drops off! I try to eat 1000-1200 calories so my body doesn't think I am starving. Hang in there! It will get better! -
I take a chewable centrum, when I remember!
-
Robin, You will love this board! It is a source of inspiration & reassurance! Good luck on your journey to lapband land!

BJ, I think my first fill is working a little! I have lost 3 more pounds for a total of 20 pounds. YEAH!!! I didn't have this feeling at first but for the past several days, my esophagus feels a little tight. I can get food & fluids down, but I can't describe it any other way than tight. Its like something went down and feels a little stuck, but its not. Weird! Well I am glad the scales are moving! SO don't you see the DOC today? Let me know what he says!

1st Fill - Liquids for 2 Weeks!!!!!!
babylovestoys replied to davethesailor's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dave, Maybe the reason he wanted you on prolonged liquids is to aid in your healing process. 4 weeks post op is pretty early for a fill. Anyway, you might want to call and ask him his rationale. -
BJ, Glad you are feeling a little better! I hate being sick, I'm such a terrible patient! Just got back from my fill. The DR. put in 1.5cc & it took all of 10 minutes with the flouro. It was painless. Says everything is where it should be but that I would probably not notice much difference until the second fill. Didn't schedule another fill appt. just said when I stop losing, to call for appt. I hope this means that I will pick back up on the weight loss since it has been SLOW. Went to dinner with my DH this weekend & he actually finished his meal before I did. Usually, I finish first & wait on him. I am practicing chewing slowly. Now if I can get a regular exercise routine down? Let me know how its going for you. When do you get a fill?

BJ, I am so sorry that you have been sick!:sick If you have been feeling fine until now, it kind of sound like its not related to your band. But then, I haven't had mine long enough to know. Could be stomach virus, or what you ate? I'm like you. I get paranoid when I think of a slip or another problem with the band. The other day I was feeling of my port and convinced myself that it was crooked or loose. This was after reading posts about people who had complications with their ports!!! Girl, get Better!!! I am so excited about getting this fill. We leave for Dallas in the AM & plan to spend the weekend. I will post just as soon as I get back. We are on our way out to dinner right now. Birthday celebration for my step son. Take Care!!!

BJ, How are you doing? Hope your making it until your first fill! I get mine this friday. Will let you know how it goes!!!

I Started Nutrasystem! Stupid?
babylovestoys replied to Marissa424's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My nutritionist encouraged me to go to weight watcher meetings for the support, but she said I definately would not be able to follow the plan because of the PORTION SIZES. Keep in mind that you have to keep protein up & limit portion sizes. -

Do you ever feel like the lapband is cheating?
babylovestoys replied to lessofjess's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been successful on many diets, only to gain the weight back again. I always felt hungry several hours after a meal. I would exercise, paid much money at the gym for a personal trainer. I got in shape, so to speak. I was a sturdier, fat person. I am still an advocate of exercise, but no matter how much I worked out, I didn't lose more than 5-6 pounds. I took countless diet pills which are addictive and unhealthy, to lose weight. I never once asked myself if those pills were "cheating" because I was so desperate that I overlooked their side effects. After researching the lap band, I felt this was a much better alternative. If I were going to lose the weight "on my own" it would have happened by now. I still am going to have to diet with my bad, use portion control, make healthy choices and utilize my band as a tool that it was meant to be used for. I am glad to have my band and am looking forward to having a slow continuual journey that will teach me to make the changes I need in my issues with food. Glad I did it! -
Tami, I'm with you on the music! It helps tremendously. I can get lost listening to the music and the time flies by! TV is better than nothing but I don't walk as fast as with music!
-
Donna, I haven't lost enough with my lap band for people to notice, but I have been on various diets and lost weight before. It is so hard for me to change my "self image." It is also sometimes, hard to accept compliments. At my heaviest weight, my husband would still tell me I was beautiful, but I didn't believe it. Mainly, because of the way I felt about myself. Oddly, this works both ways. There have been times, that I was heavy but still saw myself as "slimmer" I think this was a kind of denial. I am working on doing positive affirmations, telling myself I am a good person and deserve to take good care of myself. I am practicing telling others "Thank You, I am working hard at developing a healthier lifestyle." I think its much harder to change inside than out, but I am working on it! Don't focus on what they might have thought, just be proud of your progress!

AMRDMR, Girl, you are so funny! There may be people that have had fills at 4 weeks but I would be afraid too. I have been practicing chewing 20-25 times every time I take a bite of protein. Chew, chew, chew! Yep, I'm still hungry:hungry: but somehow trying to savor the food helps. I had my surgery in TJ with Dr. Daniel Huacuz. He was very caring & has a new clinic. I had his cell number before I had my surgery and after. He always answers and said it didn't matter if it was 3am, to call if there was a problem. My DH was with me all the way! God bless his heart! He even plans to go with me for fills. Protecting our investment I guess. Hee, Hee. Anyway, I keep reading posts that say protein intake is the key to staving off the hunger. Lets try to keep our intake up!

AMRDMR & BJLANG68, I bet you they might do your fill at six weeks. See if you can schedule the followup visit a little early. I had my surgery in Mexico so all I had to do was find a fill Doc. near my home. I am going at 6 weeks because that seems to be what most do. I didn't want to do it too early although my appetite is steady picking up. I dont want to get a slip....Yikes, that would be bad. I know we can do this though, girls. Hang in there!

Paying $325.00 per fill, too much?
babylovestoys replied to cabux's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Krystal, Good for you getting back on track! I am recently banded March 12, 2007 so we can begin the journey together! I wont get my first fill until April 26, 2007. I cant wait thoug because I am getting more hungry. When I get hungry I try to eat a filling Protein that will stay with me a while. I need to exercise more, like daily. I really think that goes a long way in helping speed things up and keeps us toned. Girl hang in there! You Can Do It!
