Thanks everyone. I scheduled my colonoscopy for mid-April. The doctor has a pre-procedure protocol that will have me drinking that "stuff" over the course of 1 hour. I'm going to wait and see the directions they are mailing me.

Has anyone had a colonoscopy post vsg? I turned 50 just before my surgery back in late July 2013. I just went in for my annual physical and the doctor reminded me that I should have a colonoscopy. So, if you have had your colonoscopy, is there anything I should tell the doctor about my vsg? Does it matter? Thanks in advance.

Dr Watkins did my surgery on July 31, 2013. My insurance required 3 months of a supervised diet. Pre-surgery diet was a 2 week liquid diet. Total calories each day was 800 calories. During this time, you could have a salad. However, the calories from this had to be included in your daily calorie total. Post surgery diet was 1 month of all liquid protein, 1 month of puréed food, and 1 month of soft food. The 4th month post surgery you finally get to have "real" food. Dr. Watkins fixed my hiatal hernia so I don't need to take any antacids. The all liquid diet tough but so worth it. Good luck in your journey. -

Dr Watkins or Dr Curry in Cinti

If you know your insurance company requires a supervised diet you probably could start that diet before your consults. I knew my plan had this requirement so I was able to schedule my initial consult with my family doctor before I met with Dr Watkins. It just helped to speed up the process. -
Dr Watkins or Dr Curry in Cinti

I chose Dr Watkins over Dr Curry. I went to the presentations and also had an initial consult with both of them. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the two. I never felt comfortable with Dr Curry. To me, there was just something off. I don't know, it could have been what I thought was his indifference to me. Almost like I was just another patient. In my opinion, not a lot of people skills. Dr Watkins to me was just the opposite. He was very patient with me and all my questions. I felt like he would have sat with me for as long as I needed to talk with him. His pre-surgery and post-surgery diet was strict compared to what you read on this site. He wants a 2 week 800 calorie pre-op liquid diet (You can have a salad once a day). Post surgery is 1 month of liquid diet, 1 month of puréed food, and 1 month of soft food. Dr Watkins also will fix a hiatal hernia (sorry for the spelling) whereas a lot of doctors don't. I had no issues with the insurance people. It took less than 2 weeks to get my insurance approval. Everyone in Dr Watkins' office were great. In my opinion, if you haven't met with both doctors you should. Everyone should really choose a doctor after they have met them. What works for me might not work for someone else. Also, everyone's insurance is different. Mine required 3 months of a supervised diet, your's might not. Do your research. Don't rely on what people tell you. Good luck in your journey. It was a lot of work but so worth it. Since July 14, 2013 I have lost 75 pounds. I have gone from a 22W down to size 14 pants, XXL tops to L tops. I'm not the fastest loser, but i am not disappointed. One week post surgery I stopped taking my blood pressure medicine per my doctor's instructions. My only regret is I didn't do this sooner. Best thing I have done for myself. Good luck. -

My Doctor Wants Me To Eat More!

Well, I positively feel like a pig when I read the calories some of you are consuming daily. I was sleeved on July 31, 2013 and I can eat about 1200-1300 calories each day. I get in between 60-80 gams of protein each day. My nut told me not to worry about carbs, she is more interested in the protein and calories. Since my initial weigh-in at my consult, I am down 70 pounds. I am very happy with my progress. The one thing that I wish could change is this darn hair thinning. Started about 6 weeks ago. Oh we'll, take the good with the bad. My food changes daily. I get bored eating the same thing for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is usually the same, but that is more about convenience. I was worried about increasing my calories, but I don't feel sluggish. In addition to getting in my protein, I have also introduced in cooked and raw veggies and fresh fruit. Thankfully no issues with any food. I am very lucky. Good luck to everyone on their journey. -
Thanks Seela.

Has anyone ever used this supplement post surgery? After spending the holiday weekend with family that use this supplement, I'm thinking of buying it to help with the hair loss. I have been using biotin since 2 weeks post surgery. I also use fish oil. My protein and water consumption have been on point since the very beginning. Within the past month I started using Nioxin shampoo, etc. At this point, you can definitely see my hair thinning in the front. I'm curious about the benefits of spurlina. I understand that the "hair thing" is common and should be expected. I am hoping to minimize the amount of hair loss. Thanks to all who respond.

I made these today and they were a HUGE hit with the non sleeved family members eating them. If you haven't made these yet, you should really do so. These are definitely a winner!

Thanks Gamergirl. I'll give that a try.

I have a bag of frozen edamame. I'm looking for suggestions on how to bake them for a snack.

Thank you.
