Sleeve Revision to Bypass due to GERD?
KristieAtkinson posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had very mild heartburn prior to my gastric sleeve. I wanted a bypass based on my high BMI but my surgeon was really pushy about the sleeve being a perfectly viable option even with my heartburn. He fixed a hiatal hernia when he did the sleeve. Heartburn was controlled for a year and a half, however it got so bad I was strangling on acid every night and 3-4 days a week I would wake up with acid coming out of my nose. I was taking two to three acid blockers and sleeping almost sitting up on 5 pillows. My surgeon did a bunch of tests including an EGD and gallbladder tests. Stated there was no hiatal hernia and no signs of abnormal gallbladder-function. He insisted it was a gall bladder issue though and removed my gall bladder. The heartburn did not get better. It got worse and my surgeon wouldn’t consider any other options. 6 months later I transferred all of my records to a new surgeon who looked at my old EGD and said I had a huge hiatal hernia and he operated and fixed it. Instead of nighttime heartburn, I had all day GERD. That was a year and a half ago. Now my new surgeon has done another EGD and a colonoscopy. He says the hiatal hernia has not recurred so he is in the process of getting an approval for revision to bypass. My understanding is the sleeve in some patients causes pressure that causes horrendous GERD & the bypass does not have this problem. It is my utmost prayer that that is the case. Highest weight was 358 and lowest was 179. I am 5’7. I’m now bouncing around 230. My questions to all of you. 1. Have you had a revision to bypass due to GERD? 2. Did it get better? 3. How much weight did you lose afterwards? I know it won’t be as substantial because it is a revision. -
Sleeve Revision to Bypass due to GERD?

Thank you very much. I tried to do a search but it doesn’t seem to be working for me. I’ve tried all words, a few words , just keywords and it won’t pull. Can you tell me where it is located? Maybe I can find it that way. -
How many people have GERD and get a sleeve anyway?
KristieAtkinson replied to Mhy12784's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much. Let’s hope that insurance cooperates. My major concern is esophageal cancer as the acid continues unabated. -

Unfortunately, it didn’t help. At 179 was when the acid would come out my nose when I was sleeping. -

DONE! 3. go zip lining 4. Be able to buy something from Victorias Secret 5. Be able to shop with friends without having to make a detour to a "fat store". *DONE! 6. Climb a rock wall and be able to get off the ground 7. Ride go carts *DONE! 8. Run a 5K......not because someone is chasing me with a butcher knife, but just for fun. *DONE! 9. Sky Dive!!!!! 10. Soak in the bathtub without my fat rolls touching any & all sides of the tub. *DONE! 11. Parasail 12. Ride jet skis 13. Go mudding! (4 wheeling, baby!) 14. Compete in a mud run 15. Hey guys, I want to share with you where I am right now. Frustrated. Feeling unsuccessful. I started my journey in January of 2012. I lost 70 pounds (down to 288) Had gastric sleeve done May 18, 2012. Lost to 199 (total of 159 pounds). That's ONLY 89 pounds from the sleeve itself. Had skin removal (corset trunkplasty) surgery on May 25, 2013. He removed 12 pounds of skin. That (after swelling went down) put me at 187. I was able to drop to 180 in June. (Total of 178 from my highest) Here's where I feel unsuccessful. I have bounced between 190 & 199 since January 2013. After skin removal May 2013, I have bounced between 180 & 190. The nutritionist says she has noticed that people who have been obese have a bigger Fluid fluctuation. I want to get to 160 (a normal BMI for my height). That's 20 plus my "bounce" of 9. I know the last of the weight is the hardest to lose. I have been bouncing since JANUARY. no real loss. Y'all know that I workout. A lot. I have tried everything to get the scale to move. I eat less than 1200 most days, on my "bad" days, no more than 1500. My BMR says I need 1659 to meet my daily needs, not including exercise calories. I should be losing. I feel frustrated. I went from a size 30 pants, 30/32 shirt to a size 8 pants, size md top. But I am not happy. Why? Cause I haven't met goal at 16 months out. Advice is appreciated. How do I get to goal before I hit 2 years out (8 months)? How do I feel successful?

Excess skin question
KristieAtkinson replied to pookluvp's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started at 358 at my highest. Size 28/30 in pants. I knew going in that I would need skin removal. I had a corset trunkplasty in May of this year. Took me from a size 12 with all that skin to a size 8. 12 pounds of skin had to come off just in my belly. I still have about 20 pounds to go to get to goal but the skin was making it hard to exercise. -

I should mention that the GNC ON mixes really well. Very smooth, even with ice & without a shaker cup. -

I also take a 8 ounce glass of iced coffee, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder, a little splenda and sugar free creamer & serve over ice. Nom nom nom! -
