    Despetate Newbie

Everyone's physician is different with diet instructions. I was on full liquids for one week then mushies for two. I'm now on regular foods. Call your physician or his office or the hospital where you had surgery. One of these places is bound to have post op instructions. Yes- Protein drinks are key at this stage. I was told to find low carb drinks. I like Premier Protein drinks from SAMs club. I also enjoy Isopure low carb drinks (some have 40gm protein!). You can mix Protein powder in low far cream soups and sugar free Jello. I hope you start feeling better. Are the bandages still on your incisions?

    Hospital Stay? Out Of Work?

My surgery was Friday, June 8. It was outpatient. Surgery was 11:00am and I was home by 3:00pm. I took the following week off work and was so glad I did! I could have returned midweek but was grateful to have those extra days to walk, nap, prepare menues, etc. Good luck!!!

Do You Eat Back Any Of Your Exercise Calories?

Do you guys log daily activities (work, shopping, cleaning) into your exercise calorie expenditure on MFP?
  5. I've been wearing my heart rate monitor the last two times I did the elliptical. MFP calculates calories burned at almost double what my heart rate monitor said. I'm confused! On another note, do you guys enter your full calories burned for the day on MFP? Things like work, shopping, household tasks, etc?

    Fruit

Hi everyone! I'm three weeks out and have been really enjoying watermelon! Since I'm still on mushies, I make a protein shake each morning with protein powder, nf plain Greek yogurt, frozen fruit (berries, bananas, peaches, whatever) and fresh spinach or kale and sometimes carrots. It's delicious! I can never finish the whole serving so I save the rest for my afternoon 'boost'.

What Did You Do With Your Clothes?

Can you consign them? I can't wait until I can get rid of clothes!

    Help. Im Gaining Weight

This is normal. I gained a few pounds secondary to the extra swelling and gas during the first week. My physician also told me not to expect weight loss for at least four weeks (or until you introduce regular foods). Hang in there and give it time. Your body needs to focus on healing right now.

    Flour Tortillas?

Will I ever eat a flour tortilla again? I'm two weeks post op and curious about regular foods (which I don't start for one week)...

    Constipation

Stool softeners (2-4) and sennakot (1-2) may work as well. I'm also having problems. I drink plenty of water, am taking fiber chews, but not getting the walking I need. This last week was my first back at work and I was exhausted at night! I'm taking MOM and fiber chews but haven't found a good regular balance yet. I haven't tried miralax; this (and the stool softeners) were what my physician recommended.

Wow! I was banded on the 8th. 25lbs is fantastic!!! Great job! I know it's hard, how do we get through this? For me, protein and keeping very busy is helpful. Keep it up!

    Help!! Im Kinda Freaking Out

I wonder if it might be related to the decreased swelling in your abdomen? I will hit three weeks on Friday. My port incision still isn't healed. It's ugly!
  16. Can you have clear broth? I also agree that finding a good protein drink is critical. Hang in there, what helped get me through was thinking about why the preop diet was needed. I wanted my surgery to be easy for the surgerion.

    Estimated Time Ur Off Work

I returned to work today after surgery on the 8th and feel great!!! Good news, I was even less hungry while at work and getting fluids (water and protein drink) was easier than ever!

    Extended Release Pain Meds

I do not have restrictions on swallowing pills (as long as they're not horse pills). Like everyone says, talk with your doctor. I have read the time release capsules can be a problem.
  19. Congrats! Truly inspiring and great job! Can you share a sample meal plan on a typical day?

    Drinks During Meals

Miss having water before, during, and after my meals! Does anyone have some good tips or advice?
  21. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone out there! Without this forum, I WOULD NOT have been able to make it through my first seven days post op! All of you are an incredibly inspiring group of people. THANK YOU! Kudos to us; each day is better and better!

    Estimated Time Ur Off Work

I took a week and enjoyed vthe recovery time. I now feel 95% and ready to return to work. I know people who had the surgery on a Thursday and returned to work on a Tuesday.
  23. Isopure Zero Carb fruit flavored drinks are great for this time! They come in grape, fruit punch, raspberry, mango, etc. each 12oz jar has 40gm of protein! I drank two of those a day preop and at one a day post op. I got them at GNC. I ate a whole Popsicle (if not two) each day. My soup servings were about 1/4-1/2 cup.
