    So Coffee?

Same for me. I LOVED my morning cup of coffee ritual. I want to love it again, but the few times I have tried a little coffee, it has held no appeal to me. Now my ritual is my morning protein shake. I guess that is better for me....

Fat Clothes Sure Take A Beating!

That's funny. I couldn't figure out at first, how I had lost so much weight, but was not in new sizes yet. Then I realized that my clothes had stretched over time as I gained weight. Being overweight is also very abusive to shoes! Mine never last very long, but now that I am slimming down, I am hoping that my favorite pairs will last more than 4-6 months!

    Please Help-Post Op Question

Everyone is different, but I definitely could have done it. But with an eight hour class, you need to plan for your day. Make sure you have plenty of Water to drink and something you can easily eat for lunch. If it were me, I would do a Protein Shake because I know I wouldn't have any issues getting it down. You'll have a better idea of what lunch would work for you after your surgery (tastes and tolerances change) and you can plan for it the week of your class. Good luck!
  4. I was just thinking of an infomercial I saw for the Brazilian Butt exercise routine. It's supposed to lift and round out the butt. LOL. I would prefer to have A LOT less of mine! Sounds like your hubby is a great guy and very supportive.

    Am L Hurting Myself?

Liquids pretty much run through you, so I doubt you are hurting yourself. When you get to pureed and solids, you will find you can not fit so much in. Good job on getting your fluids and protein in! I really struggled with that the first two weeks!

Pain Again, Like When First Out

I am almost two months out and still, when I overdo it, I get some pain. Not like you are experiencing, but I can feel a twinge in my incision site. I have also heard about pain coming back after it has been gone for a while, just out of the blue. I hope you feel better quick!

    Torn Between The Two

I had originally planned on doing the band. I thought it seemed the least invasive out of the surgeries and I liked the thought that if I really wanted to reverse it, it was an option. After further review I decided against it for the following reasons: I did not want a foreign object in my body over the long term (what would happen to it over time?); The process of going back and forth to the surgeon for fills and adjustments sounded very inconveinent and inefficient; Weight loss was significantly slower than with bypass or sleeve; optimum weight loss was not frequently acheived with the band; potenital for band slippage or errosion. However, there are plenty of people who have had great success with the sleeve. I seem to see alot of band to sleeve revisions posted on this site. That speaks volumes to me that I think I made the right decision for me. Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide and I wish you lots of success with whatever you choose!
  8. I think if new doctor has enough experience, I would jump ship and go with him. Thirteen weeks seems like a long time to wait. If they are already all set with insurance and everything else, why couldn't they put you on the schedule, even if it was 45 days later?

    1St Week Post-Op Question

If you are still feeling nauseous in the hospital when you are getting ready to leave, you can ask your doctor to prescribe an anti-nausea med to go home with. I think because you are consciencious (sp?) of becoming dehydrated, you will be diligent in sipping water all day.

    Last Summer Of My Discontent

Prayers for you for insurance approval and a fabulous summer vacation where you walk by the shop windows and think, WOW I look sexy! It will happen!

    Stomach

It doesn't last long, but it is extremely aggravating while it is happening! I used extra strength hydrocortozone. It helped, but not entirely. I read another post where it was suggested to lightly slap the area to give the nerves something else to do. I did not know that trick when I was so itchy. I hope it goes away soon!

    Single Serving Blenders

I have a Magic Bullet which I love for making protein drinks with ice in them. I start with crushed ice from my fridge though. I am not sure how it would do with whole ice cubes. I also have a Ninja. That is perfect for crushing ice. It's not quite as convenient as my Magic Bullet because you need to transfer the drink from the Ninja blender to a cup, whereas the Magic Bullet blends right in the cup.

    Success Is Golden

Congratulations on your success! That's awesome!
  14. You are going to do awesome! It is totally normal to feel nervous (although when I was about to jump out of my skin with fear in the weeks leading up to the big day, I did not know that...I thought I was just a wimp) It sounds like you have a lot to do for work leading up to surgery, so try to just focus on one step at a time. Make yourself a list and start checking off things as you do them. Keep yourself busy so you won't have time to worry. Try to schedule in some YOU time as well, to just relax.

    On Surgery Day..

The catheter & the breathing tube both scared me (among many other things) Both were done after I was asleep and I had no idea. Catheter being in was no big deal (honestly that was almost a deal breaker for me when I found out about it prior to surgery) Breathing tube was gone long before I was awake. All good!

Should I Tell The Inlaws About My Surgery?

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Personally, I have been an open book about my surgery. I find it's just easier than lying or telling half truths. That's not to say I am walking around announcing it to the world, but if someone asks (or if they are a close friend or relative) I tell them. The funny thing is, the last people I told I was going to have the surgery were my parents. I was afraid they would not be supportive and that they would try to talk me out of it. It turns out that just the opposite was true. They were wonderful. They insisted I try to have the surgery when they could be here to help me. And they were a great help to me when the time came. I know they would have been really hurt if I had not told them until after I had it done. If I were in your situation, I would probably tell them since the rest of your family already knows. They might be really hurt if they find out some other way and they know that you never trusted them with the information. I would go to their outings really well prepared because it sounds like sabotage could be in the works over there. Eat before you go, bring a Protein shake, bring a dish to share that you can eat...etc. Who knows, someone in their family might see your success and be inspired to do something for themselves to lose weight. Good luck with your dilema! Let us know how it turns out.

    I Skipped The 18's! :)

Doing the happy dance with you...it's great exercise!! Congratulations!!
  18. The itching is normal too. Eventually all of mine itched like crazy and I felt like I wanted to just scratch my skin off. Try putting I used Neosporin with a pain reliever in it and hydrocortazone cream. It helped a little. Fortunately it was really bad for one day and got progressively better each day as it healed.

Did I Start Solids Too Soon?

I have been eating soft foods for a couple of weeks now. I had my surgery a week before you. If you felt okay after eating it, then it is probably okay. My rule of thumb is to go slow. If it feels bad, then I don't eat it again, but may try again with that food in a week or so. It's funny, I noticed on this forum that everyone's nutrition orders vary as to each food stage.

Anyone Get A Spinal For Surgery?

No thanks for me. I preferred the way we did it, with me knocked out and not knowing or remembering a thing! Lol!

    Stalled And Frustrated.

I totally feel your pain! I was sleeved June 4th and lost weight like crazy and now I have been virtually stalled for weeks. It is so frustrating. I force myself to have my Protein shake every morning, even though it has ZERO appeal to me anymore. I am on normal foods, but I am sure I am not getting 60-80 grams of protein as recommended. Frankly, I don't even enjoy eating anymore. I was told that when you hit a stall in the beginning, it is very likely you are not eating enough protein and need to increas it. I have been thinking I may need to try drinking one more Protein Shake each day. That would put me at 60 grams of protein. Based on what you have said in your post, the idea probably holds even less appeal to you than it does me! I will be interested to read the other responses from the veterans on here. Hopefully we can both get through this and start losing again!

    3 Months, 50 Lbs

That's awesome! It's nice to have a group of supportive people like this one to brag too when our family and friends get tired of hearing from us! LOL. Brag away, you deserve it!! Great job and enjoy your Silver Jeans!

Vsg And Hiatal Hernia Repair - Cigna Insurance

It says "asymptomatic" hiatial hernia. I guess that means that they cover hernias with symptoms.....where does it hurt? I bet you can get your doctor to write a letter of medical necessity.

    Nervous :(

I had the same feelings you did about "timing" not being good. My mother pointed out to me that there would NEVER be a perfect time. That was part of the problem that led me to being overweight to begin with, I always put myself and my own needs on hold for work, the kids, my family etc. SO, I am going to give you the same advice my mom gave me. Schedule the surgery! Take the time to do this for yourself! You deserve it. If you are at the point where you are doing this as your last resort, then do not wait any longer! Put your health on high priority and get it done. Everything else will fall into place. The best part is, that at least in my case, she was right! I am glad I did not put it off any longer. As for telling or not telling, that is up to you. But let me assure you that this is not the easy way out!! It is expensive, it is hard, it is major surgery. BUT it is effective!! You have already yo-yo dieted. You have proven that you can lose weight (and gain it back) By having the surgery, you are going to lose the weight again, but this time permenantly (if you stick with the long term plan, that is)! I don't think it's the easy way out, but it is a smart thing to do if you feel it is right for you. Good luck! Let us know when you schedule!
