Seriously Now, What Do I Need Nut For?
IsB replied to SweetSaso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you really need is a long term plan. If you've already been given one from you past visits with your NUT then you probably don't need to go again. That is, as long as you stick to the plan you were given. My NUT gave me everything in writing. I have a written plan for each phase and a list of all Vitamins and supplements I should be taking. I'm seeing her again so she can check on my progress but those visits were included in the cost of my surgery. -
I'm a big fan of CamelBaks. I always used one while mountain biking and liked it so much that I started to wear one for road biking as well. I don't like dodging cars while I'm fiddling with a bottle. Any ride over 20 miles it's worth wearing one.

Cashew Nuts And Almonds - To Eat Or Not To Eat
IsB replied to 39m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are going to eat nuts make sure you measure and not just grab a handful. They are very good for you but loaded with calories. You don't want to go over your daily calories because you eyeballed it. -
Nothing wrong with calling the insurance company and asking them. After the 1st week I was calling every day
-
Just tell people that you are on a diet. If they know you had some sort of surgery tell them that your doctor is making you stick to a very strict diet because of your surgery. So many people gain and lose weight all the time that everyone will accept that explanation.
-
No harm in calling the doctor.
-
Keep up the great work! Those results don't just happen. It takes effort and it's obviously paying off for you. Nice job!

I started 20 minutes on the elliptical 3 days out. By a week out I was up to 40 minutes which was my pre-op cardio time. I met with the doctor for my 2 week post-op visit and he cleared me for yoga and weight training which I started today. Yoga and kettlebells felt very good after a 2 week layoff.

I'd ask the doctor. Not taking it for a couple of days until you get an expert opinion won't hurt.

The key is tracking food and exercise. The problem is you can't stop tracking. At first you write down everything you are going to eat for the day and all your exercise in advance. If it's not written down you don't eat it. Once you get beyond that you track what you eat and do as you do it. Once you hit your daily allowances you stop. The problem is it's tough to maintain that regimen indefinitely. If you can though and don't have other medical issues, like diabetes, it will work.

Those With Diabetes...i Need Help
IsB replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you sleep your body produces cortisol which is a natural steriod. Steroids raise your blood sugar. My sugar is usually less when I go to bed then when I wake up despite the fasting. I wouldn't worry about that As part of your pre-op blood tests they will do a hemoglobin A1C which measures your average blood sugar over the past 3 months. That's the test that will let the doctors know if you are diabetic. If you have already had any blood work you might want to call the doctor who ordered it and ask if that was one of the things they tested for. -
How Much Weight Did You Lose Your First 2 Weeks?
IsB replied to Kim Ster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to My Fitness Pal it's around 600 a day. Everyone loses at a different rate and it also depends where you start. Often people with more weight to lose will lose more in those first 3 months. By the time I hit my goal I should have lost 60 pounds since this operation. I honestly don't care how long it takes to get there as long as I do get there. There are no bonus points for getting there quickly -
How Much Weight Did You Lose Your First 2 Weeks?
IsB replied to Kim Ster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is 2 weeks since my surgery and I lost exactly 10 pounds -
I was told 1 ounce every 20 minutes which is 3 and hour. You will build up from that fairly quickly, or least I did. Good luck and try not to stress. Just take it easy for a while

Possible Acceleratedsurgery Date... What About Recovery?
IsB replied to Renagade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Within a week of surgery I was running 3 miles on the elliptical and back at work without problems. I could have gone back to work sooner too but hurricane Sandy left us without power so I had kids who were out of school. For the work you'll be fine. For the 50 pounds I agree with everyone else and would explain the situation to your doctor and follow that advice if you can't get help with that bag -
The Smell Of Protein Makes Me Want To Throw Up!
IsB replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You better hold your nose because Protein is not something you want to skip. If you do you really will end up sick. Why not explain it to your NUT and ask for some alternate Proteins that you could try? There's got to be something that you'll be okay with. You probably just haven't found it yet. -
I had 1 week of 4 shakes plus 1 small meal at dinner and then 1 week of 5 shakes. Not fun but I did lose 12 pounds over that time which was about 5% of my body weight so it did work. For the record in the 6 months prior to that which was my medically supervised diet I only lost 8 pounds.

Last Week Sleevers..lets Chat..
IsB replied to steelergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the help proudgrammy, My surgeon is a little different than most of the ones I read about here. He told me for the cardio I can do whatever feels okay. I've been doing it for so many years already that unlike many here I'm not learning how to exercise so maybe he's cutting me some slack because of it. He wants his sleevers on pureed quickly which is why it was just 1 day on liquids. Once I was home it was anything that I could mash with a fork like baked fish, canned tuna, hardboiled eggs, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and even ground beef. We'll see how it changes tomorrow when I see him for my 2 week follow up. -
Congrats! That's something really worth getting excited about
-
You are going to amazed how quickly the amount of exercise that you can increases as long as you keep with it. It's all about training the body to do things that's it's capable of doing but has forgotten how to do. That muscle memory will kick in and you're going to go faster and farther than you ever thought you could. Just keep sticking with it. Sounds to me like you are doing a great job. Keep with it!

Last Week Sleevers..lets Chat..
IsB replied to steelergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on 11/1 and so far everything has been easy, almost too easy. I only had 1 day of liquid and then by day 2 was on pureed and soft foods. I have no problem getting all my liquids and can drink 16 oz in a half hour. I can do about 4 oz of Protein at a time before I get very full very quickly. The problem is that I will be hungry again in about an hour. In fact I feel hungry most of the time. I've been ignoring it but I've been surprised that it's happening. Exercise has been limited to running on the elliptical. I am up to 40 minutes at a little more than half the resistance I was doing before being sleeved. This morning I went 3.5 miles which means I can probably up the resistance. I have my 2 week followup on Thursday. I'm really hoping I cleared for yoga, coffee and some vegetables. I'm dying for a salad after a month of shakes and protein. -
Question; Does Some One A Good Diet/calorie Tracker For Pc ?
IsB replied to BeGuiled's topic in Food and Nutrition
my fitness pal is the most popular. it works with pretty much every phone too -
A lot of people are on diets. if you get a comment on how much you eat you just say that you are on a diet and don't eat much. He won't think twice about it.
