  1. Unfortunately those comments are not going to change. Unless people research they will always feel that it's the 'easy' way out.
  2. October 30 as long as the insurance approval comes in. I called them since it's been 7 days and it's still pending
  3. I'm hoping to join you at the end of the month. Thanks for sharing the experience. A little lemon pledge smell is something I can deal with. Quick recovery to you

    Yayyyyyyyyyyyy Me:-)

    Great job! Keep it up!
  5. I have Oxford which is owned by UHC and follows all the UHC rules. They told me it has to be medically supervised which means no WW. I was told I could combine WW with medically approved nutritionist but WW on it's own was out. They need doctors notes to go along with the monthly weigh-ins.

Men: Telling "the Guys" About Your Surgery

I'm not planning on telling them anything. Nothing good can possibly come from telling them. They're not even going to notice for 6 months anyway.

    14 Month Surgiversary!

Thanks for sharing. It's always great to hear from someone with long term results. I hope to be doing the same thing the end of next year.

What Did Your United Healthcare Cover?

So far everything has been covered subject to my deductible and copays and co-insurance. I've made sure though to do it all in network. The nutritionist is employed by the surgeon and her services are included in his bills.

    Boars Head Deli Meat

It's pretty much the standard here in the Northeast. Every market carries Boarshead

    Who was your surgeon?

My surgery is scheduled for October 30 with Dr. Dan Davis at Stamford Hospital.
  16. I hate to say it but the best thing to do is use glucose tabs. I know that all diabetics hate them but they do prevent those horrible lows. No way would I get off the medicine without the doctor's say so. There are too many lasting effects of high blood sugar. I'd stay on the medicine and take 2 glucose tabs when you feel the lows coming on.

Heres My Donation To The Mens Room

Very cool! Great to see that you can still build significant muscle after WLS. Thanks for sharing.
  18. My advice is to research, research, research. Don't be afraid to attend all the information sessions in your area until you find a group you like. Don't dismiss any of the 3 major procedures. Read this board and the ones for the band and RNY. You many think you know what you want after the information session but you don't yet because you just don't have enough information. You need to realize that this is just one of many tools. You still need to overcome your mental issues with food. You need to learn how to eat right and to make exercise part of your daily routine. The more you can work on these things before your surgery the better off you will be. The last thing is that you have to decide that WLS is for you because it's not for everyone. There are millions of people able to lose weight and become healthy without it. This is only for those who have tried everything else and still can't maintain a healthy weight. Be honest with yourself. WLS is not the easy way out. It's takes the same commitment and dedication that every other weight loss program takes. Don't forget that.
  19. Great news! I'm sure it's nice to feel like you are getting somewhere after fighting so hard for it. Good luck with you surgery.
  20. Willpower. You have to really want to get healthy. If you are committed to a new you then you just do it. The better shape your liver is in the easier it will be for the surgeon. Giving up solid food for a couple of weeks isn't that bad compared to the risks of complications.

    Update

Great job! Keep it up because it's obviously working
  22. That is so cool! I love stories like that. Keep running!
  23. Lots of great DVDs you can get on the cheap that can help. I've been doing Yoga for years and swear by it but if you want a little more cardio you can try Pilates as well. Start small with some beginner programs and then work your way up. The key is to do a program that isn't so hard that you will give up on it. Choose something that you can do 5 days a week and make it part of your routine to keep doing it.
  24. Protein shakes are my go to in that situation. You might as well get used to them since you'll be drinking them as meals soon enough. A protein shake as a snack is a good way to start the habit.
  25. That's the way to do it! You'll kick some butt and then it will be done and over with
