I know everyone goes thru stalls...I've already had a few. And, I am down 43 lbs. since my very first doc visit on March 30th when I started this journey. However, I'm not sure I'm buying the whole 'your body goes into starvation mode' excuse anymore. I know 43 is a lot, and I'm not trying to say I'm failing. I just don't understand how I can go from eating way too much food like I had been for 30 years to eating just a few bites and not lose even 1 lb. during the week. The last 2 weeks I have started walking about an hour every day in the heat and humidity. I come home from my walk soaking wet with sweat. I just don't get how I can make such a drastic change to my eating habits and exercising and stay the same from one week to the next. A friend of mine had the sleeve 2 weeks before I did and she's almost down 10 lbs more than me. She doesn't work and has time during her day to cook and prepare and exercise, but I think I'm still doing ok with working full time and taking care of the kids and their activities. I just don't see how it's physically possible NOT to lose every week. I get that we sleevers don't lose as quickly as bypass people, but it should still be something. Again, I'm very happy about losing the 43, I just thought it wouldn't be as frustrating. I know this is the new life I'm living, and not reversible, but I just am frustrated and so confused. I'm drinking my shakes, eating Protein, some carbs, but even if I have a 1/2 of a wrap, I'm not eating the whole thing plus fries anymore. I just don't get it. Can anyone explain to me how it's possible???? Thanks guys!

I had my surgery June 2012. I'm down 80 lbs. I feel like I may have stretched my stomach. I feel like I can eat more than 8-10 bites of food. I still stop when I am full, but sometimes I don't wait until I am hungry and feel that butterfly feel before I eat again. I'm scared to go back to the doctor because I haven't lost more than I probably should. I had shoulder surgery in June 2013 and sat around for 4 months. During that time, I couldn't lie down flat, so I didn't go back to the bariatric surgeon for follow ups. Plus, I was in and out in 15 minutes for my visits and felt that the copay wasn't worth it. I haven't given up........and I just started exercising again. I know it's way past the honeymoon phase and now I have to work at it. Just wondering if there was anyone else who had this surgery and feels like they screwed it up like I feel like I did. I'm trying to get back on track. Didn't know if I could have stretched my stomach out during this time. Guess I just need some reassurance that I can do this! Thanks!

Anyone on here post op 2.5 years?
carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks. I'm kind of scared to go back to my doc. since I haven't been there in a long time. I'm afraid he will yell at me. But, I know it's probably something I should do. And yes, I will start measuring my portions and just walk away then rather than take up bad habits again (eating off kids plates what they don't eat). I have to keep reminding myself I went to an extreme to lose weight and that I need to do this for me. -
I feel like I am able to eat more than I should. Did I stretch it?

I feel like I'm able to eat more than I should be eating. I am a year out, and I can eat more than 8-10 bites of food. If I did stretch the stomach out, how do I get it smaller without another surgery? Any ideas?? -

Sorry everyone, I didn't know I was in the lap band forum. I have to find the sleeve one. -

carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MandaMom, I had the sleeve, not the band. Cheryl, I've never measured anything by the cup. In fact, I don't even remember seeing any kind of measurements for post-surgery. I have just been eating until I was full, which at first was about 6-8 bites, and now is about 10. I will have to look for my paperwork to see if I totally missed that. Thank you. -
I had my surgery in June of 2012. I got my hair cut last January and it really hasn't grown in this past year. I'm not losing it. But it's not growing at all. I tried the Biotin Vitamin for about 3 months and didn't notice any difference. I also tried pre-natals, but they are causing too much gas and constipation. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Any long-term sleevers out there for advice?
carriecat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved in June 2012. I am down 78 lbs., which is awesome. I had shoulder surgery March 28, 2013 and basically sat around for 3 months. I didn't gain anything, but I also didn't lose. Now, I'm still stuck at the plateau that I have been in since March. I haven't gained anything, I'm still at 78 lbs. I've been exercising and eating well (at least I think I have). I do have carbs (blue chips or wraps), but no Pasta or bread or anything. I drink 48 grams of Protein per day, plus the meats/cheeses I eat for the other protein. I'm not able to use weights just yet as my shoulder still isn't strong enough, but I am doing cardio. It's now been over a year, and most of my weight was lost in the first 8 months post-surgery. Shouldn't I still be losing? My goal weight is still another 80 lbs. away. When I say I haven't lost anything.....I mean anything. Can any of you tell me what year #2 brings? Thanks -
1 year out and still haven't hit goal
carriecat replied to dpeeler28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone. I passed my one year anniversary in June. I'm down 78, which is totally awesome, but I have been in a stall for the last 4 months. However, I did have major shoulder surgery and was basically immobile for 2.5 months. I am trying to get back into the routine, and know that I need to rethink my eating habits. I have a lot more to lose (about 80 lbs), so I know I am the only one who can make it happen. Good luck, and keep up the good work! -
I am 1 year post op from surgey since june 29th
carriecat replied to bethnc1970's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! Such an inspiration! I passed my one year surgiverssary last month. I'm down 78 lbs. Not as much as you, but in my defense, I had shoulder surgery at the end of March and sat around for 2.5 of those months. I'm now back to work and back to eating better, so hopefully I'll hit the 100 lb loss soon. This site keeps me going! Happy belated birthday! -
Is there a lot of sugar in the fruit? Sounds good!

if I read about another stall Imma pull my hair out!
carriecat replied to allthatjazz4u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just passed my one year surgery anniversary. I am down 76 pounds. I have been in a stall since about March. However, I had shoulder surgery at the end of March and I really just sat around for 9 weeks watching tv and reading. I didn't eat as much protein as I should have. I picked at whatever was in the fridge and cabinet, which was mostly stuff for the kid. I wasn't exercising. Then, my shoulder felt better and I've been walking for the last 3 weeks. I still haven't lost, but I've also still been home and within reach of whatever is there. This is my first week back to work after 3 months away on disability. I'm hoping now that I am back and away from all the 'kid food', I can get back into my routine and up my proteins. My goal of course is to lost another 80 lbs or so, but also to get my hair to grow! I cut it in January, and it's not growing. So, hopefully the protein and the biotin vitamin work, and I will get back on track and need to go shopping for smaller clothes!! Good luck everyone! -
Kind of Nervous...been stalling a lot
carriecat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I had surgery on June 5. I am down 68 lbs, which is amazing! But, I've been in a stall for about a month. I am exercising when I can, eating my Protein and drinking my shakes. I bought pants today for the first time, and I'm only 1 size down. I thought with almost losing 70 that I'd be at least 2 sizes down. But, my problem is I am not losing in my stomach. So, the pants that fit in legs and butt don't fit in my stomach. I've stuck with the stretchy pants for now. I know it's not going to get any easier, but why the stalling? Does sleep have anything to do with weight loss? Thanks. -
How Can I Tell When My Sleeve Is Full
carriecat replied to Shubox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 5 months out and it's usually between 7-9 bites for me. Once I hit that point, I wait a few minutes and if I get 5 hiccups, I know I'm done. Very good job eating the chicken first! Good luck and you will figure it all out in time. -

Sick Of Chocolate Protein Shakes? Try This!
carriecat replied to Beyon Sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the GNC Gold Standard Vanilla Ice Cream whey protein mix. Then, I add sugar free jello powders for all my different flavors. I love putting in cheesecake jello and a little bit of cinnamon. Tastes great! -
How Much You've Lost
carriecat replied to luckylady131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the weight that I was the first doctor visit I had to start my sleeve process. I saw the doc for the first time on March 30th, when I was 326. I can now say that as of Sunday (weigh in day), I am down 55 lbs. I never weighed the day before or the day of surgery. I wish I had. I also wish I had taken measurements, but I didn't. Too late now. I'm happy saying I've lost 55! -
So, pre-surgery, I lived on Motrin 600 or Motrin 800 for cramps. My cramps have always been horrible. Well, now I can't take any motrin. Tylenol has really never helped me with any pain relief. What do you use????? Thanks!

Well, I was way off. My starting BMI was 52. I go to the doc in a few weeks and hopefully he'll tell me how it's gone down! -

carriecat replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! It's totally normal to have all those thoughts in your head. I kept thinking I was taking the easy way out by having the sleeve surgery. But, then I knew that I tried every diet and nothing worked permanently. So, I am glad I did it. I am 11 weeks out. I don't know what my BMI is now, but before surgery it was 46. I have lost 48 lbs and people are noticing. I know I have a long way to go, but I don't regret it for a second. No problems with nausea. No problems with anything but having much smaller portions and eating more throughout the day. I use the GNC Gold Standard Optimum protein. Vanilla Ice Cream is my favorite. For variety, I even put in some sugar free jello or pudding mix into the vanilla shakes. Good luck! -
Frustrated At 8 Weeks Post-Op
carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone......I know in my head that this happens, but it just seems impossible. I never did any measurements prior to surgery, so I have nothing to compare it to. Never thought about the muscle thing. I didn't think walking would build up that much muscle. Thanks for the positive comments and I'm glad I'm not the only thinking that I somehow broke my new stomach. LOL. Hopefully I will be able to come on here Sunday and post a loss on my tracker! -
Weight Lost In 6 Weeks
carriecat replied to anm968503's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on June 5th. I am down 39 lbs since my first doc visit. I think I'm broken somehow, since I lost 1 whole pound this week. It amazes me that I'm eating sooooo much less and still am only losing a little bit. I know I haven't exercised, but still, compared to what I used to eat, this is nothing. Hopefully, it picks up and I lose quicker. Good luck! -
I use the Da Vinci syrups, but I'm sure you can use any. I mix it with ricotta cheese. It somewhat tastes like cheesecake. Some people mix the syrups with cottage cheese also.

Oh Yeah Protein Drinks
carriecat replied to aviiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the Oh Yeah peanut butter cup bars and i love them. I use Optimum Gold Standard whey protein powder that I love. Haven't tried the oh Yeah shakes. Good luck! -
I had surgery on June 5th. I am only down 23 lbs, but I stalled last week also. From what everyone on here is saying, it's normal and pretty much a given that your body will stall, even tho you are doing everything according to plan. They say that you just put your body thru major surgery, and it will need time to catch up to your new eating habits. Hang in there! It will come off!!
