5 Weeks Out Of Surgery....stalling Already
carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THANK YOU all to have replied! I didn't know it was that common. I figured it was something I was doing. I am starting this week to excercise. My Protein is good, my Water is good. I was about to regret doing this, thinking that I royally messed up. Glad to know it's not just me. Not that I want anyone to stall, but knowing it happens sets my mind at ease. I am taking everyone's advice and will keep keeping on! You all do the same as well!! Good luck everyone! I go to my 6 week doc visit on Wed. Maybe I'll drop a few before then! -
5 Weeks Out Of Surgery....stalling Already
carriecat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on June 5th. I had 2 weeks of the low cal diet prior to surgery. I'm down 23 lbs, which I'm very thankful for. This week, tho, I stayed the same. Today I started keeping a journal of when/what I am eating/drinking. I'm hoping I can figure it out that way. Should I be losing quicker? I'm drinking the protein shakes, and I'm eating eggs, turkey, cheese, etc. Did I break it??? -
I ate my lunch way too fast. When I was done, I felt it sitting there, and I made myself throw up. I feel much better. Did I hurt myself in anyway? I am 4 weeks out, and this is the first time I did this. Has it ever happened to anyone else? Thanks

I Would Like Opinion On What To Buy For Protein?
carriecat replied to Thegoddesszili's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Gold Standard Optimum that's found in GNC. The vanilla is great. I mix it with different flavors of the sugar free jello mix. If I use vanilla jello, it tastes like a vanilla Carnation instant breakfast. With the vanilla, you can make a ton of different flavor shakes depending on the jello/pudding powder mixes. Good luck! -
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to try them!

Post-Op Liquids
carriecat replied to Big Black Beauty Queen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the room temp or warm liquids. I am 17 days post op. I drank grape crystal light (walmart brand) and i put in the Pure Protein grape shooters. I couldn't taste them, and I still got in 27 grams of protein. I'm desperately afraid of losing my hair, so I drank them from day 3 on. Decaf tea (no cream) and chicken broth are also soothing. -
Hi. I had my surgery on Tuesday, June 5. I know the nurse had told me prior to surgery that I need to wait 2 weeks in order to go in a pool or the ocean. If 2 weeks is Tuesday, think it's ok to go into the ocean on Monday, one day shy? Any thoughts??

I was sleeved 3 days ago. Feeling great. Except, I can't sleep anymore on the couch. I've been sleeping in a sitting position, and not getting much sleep. I haven't tried lying on the couch or the bed (I'm a side sleeper). I thought I either read or someone told me that I'm not allowed to sleep on my sides, which is how I sleep. Is there a rule on this? I don't have a recliner. I just want to be horizontal! Thanks!

Am I Allowed To Sleep In A Bed?
carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much! I'm exhausted! I didn't know if I would hurt or 'break' anything. LOL. Good nite group!! -
I was sleeved on Wednesday. I have been home since yesterday morning. I sat down on the couch tonight at like 8:30. I just got up at 2. I was sleeping in a sitting position. Now, my feet are swollen. Is this normal??? I don't want to lie down yet. Thanks.

It's here.........I'm going in tomorrow!!!! Other than not waking up from the anesthisia, which I've never had a problem with, I have one other worry. I hurt my back on Friday night. I don't know what I did, but it's killing me. If I tell them, will they still do the surgery? I know I probably need to be strong to get up and walk around, but I don't want this to be a show stopper. My thought is that I should just keep my mouth shut and maybe the pain killers will help the back also. Any thoughts?

Well, I just heard from the doctor's office, and thanks to insurance taking their good sweet time, they have not approved tomorrow's surgery. It will now be next Tuesday, June 5th. Soooo, I'm bummed. I know it's only a week, but I was SOOOOO excited for tomorrow. So, minor setback, and I'll just have to wait 7 more days.

Well, I'm one week away from the biggest and hopefully best decision of my life! I'm super excited for the future, but I'm also super nervous! I can't wait to go shopping in any random store, and not worry if they have a plus size section! And, I'll get to pay less for the same thing in smaller sizes!! I'm praying that I don't mess up the post-op diet and that I'm not in too much pain. I had 2 c-sections, so I'm hoping that this pain is comparable to that. I bounced back from them pretty well, and hopefully I do as good in a week! Thank you to all who have replied to all my comments/questions/fears. You guys are great on here! Once I get pictures, I will post them, and when I figure out how to get the fun tickers and stuff, I will put them all up! For the first time EVER, I will let people see what my weight is, and what it won't ever be again!

Afraid I Won't Tolerate The Foods I Like Now After Surgery
carriecat posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi again! I apologize that I keep posting my fears/questions on here. I'm a little over a week before surgery (May 30th) and I'm still excited/nervous. My question today is: What if I can't eat the foods I need to after surgery? For example, I like cottage cheese now. What if I can't eat it after? I love chicken, but I know sometimes people can't eat it after. Same thing as the Protein shakes...I drink them now with no problem. What if? I am worried that I will not be able to eat/drink the sources of protein that I can now. People have said that their taste buds change. I'm scared that I won't have anything to fall back on for protein like eggs, cottage cheese, chicken, shakes. Can this happen? Am I totally overthinking this? Thanks! -
Afraid I Won't Tolerate The Foods I Like Now After Surgery
carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thanks for your responses. I should have clarified that I wasn't talking about breads and cakes and cookies. I meant the food that I need to eat like eggs and cottage cheese and protein shakes. Here I am, thinking I'll be fine post-op, and my 'what-if's' are kicking in, and now I'm paranoid that I won't get in protein and my hair will all fall out. I know it's all in my head, that I will be fine. I'm 100% on board with the surgery. No second thoughts about it. I'm just a worrier. -
Extremely Nervous About Upcoming Sleeve Surgery On 5/21/12.
carriecat replied to banksdea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you to everyone who has responded. I've calmed down a ton! My nerves are mostly that I won't wake up. I have had multiple surgeries (I'm a klutz), and I've always been fine with anesthesia. Even my husband says I could administer my own. I guess it's just because the kids are growing up and I'm just afraid. I have a lot of support, and I know this is the best thing for me. I'm super excited. The 2 week low cal diet is hard, total shock to my body. I'm not used to eating so little! Of course, that's what got me in this mess in the first place! So, I just wanted to thank you all for your support and advice. I will have pictures up so we can all see how much better I look after a while! Good luck everyone! -
Extremely Nervous About Upcoming Sleeve Surgery On 5/21/12.

I just made my appointmet yesterday for May 30th. I didn't get any sleep last night either. I know, like you said, that it will help in the long run. I am hoping to be off blood pressure meds and get my sugars down. But, the same thought hit me....it's not reversible and so final. I've been freaking out a little since I left the doc yesterday. Maybe some people here can give us advice! -
First Time Here......hoping To Get A Date In The Next 2 Weeks
carriecat replied to carriecat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks everyone for your well wishes and support! I am going to the doctor today for my authorization appointment. I am hoping to get my date. Both excited and super nervous, but I know it's right. I just got put on blood pressure meds, and my primary doc told me i'm one-tenth of a point away from being defined as diabetic. So.....maybe in a few weeks, i will be off the bp meds, and more than 1/10 away from the diabetes. I will keep you posted! -
First Time Here......hoping To Get A Date In The Next 2 Weeks
carriecat posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. My name is Carrie. I am a 39 year old female. I've had weight problems all my life. Now, I'm ready to do something about it for good! I tried everything from slim fast and d**k Gregory's Bohemian liquid diet to Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and NutriSystem. I did lose on those, but once I was off, gained it back plus more. My neighbor at work had the bypass. After seeing her success, I thought long and hard and talked to her. I had a consultation with her doctor after doing a lot of research on the sleeve. I'm now doing all my pre-op visits and bloodwork and everything. My last appointment is May 8th, and then I hope to hear from the doc's office to give me a surgery date and the final instructions. I'm both scared and excited. Everything I've read, there doesn't seem to be any negatives, with the exception of eating a ton of food. Thank God for that! I know mom isn't too thrilled with the surgery, but for years, my weight has been an issue between her and I. My husband is agreeing with the surgery, but isn't one for 'unnecessary' surgery. I am at the point where I think it is necessary. My blood pressure has been going up and I will need to go on pills for it. My sugars are also on the high side. My legs and back hurt. I have PCOS and acid reflux, which I hope the sleeve will make go away. So, this is the first time I've ever done anything like this, writing stuff for anyone to see. The people on here seem very supportive, and that's important to me. I just have to figure out how to use this thing! Thanks!
