Howdy n welcome to my profile,
My name is Ke. I live in New Orleans La where I work as a Support Coordinator for a Medical Resource Company. I am 29 years old and currently in a relationship. My weight loss escapades stated some years ago when I decided relocated from Louisiana to Georgia. At that time I was at a healthy weight and was pretty active. In fact I think I was at my senior weight in high school and I was PHAT! (lol) Well after moving I joined a gym that I faithfully attended every morning at 5am for an hour and I was eating really healthy. I was actually on nutra system at the time and it was going well.
In the mix of stopping nutra system, working long hours and having one heck of a social life, I became lazy. I stopped waking up every morning going to the gym. I stopped eating healthy foods. I got some what comfortable around the friends that I have and the weight started picking up. My friends and I would go out to eat all of the time. Not only indulging in the food but the alcohol as well. We all know that alcohol is extremely fatting including most of the foods we order in restaurants (cause who has time to be worried about what they can’t eat when you go out.) Not that this has anything to do with it, then again it might my friends were not slim at that time.
Anyway, so as time went on I went back to school to get my Masters and that is when I really noticed that I had gotten big… At first I really didn’t notice it. I guess because I’m tall and I wear my weight well but damn for me to notice it became a problem. So much a problem that I wouldn’t dare go out in the ATL looking the way I do. I became more reserved and my friends would opt to maybe have dinner out of the city and then call it a night. I stopped going to lounges, sports bars and clubs. I was so ashamed of myself. Listen to this oxymoron I have high self- esteem. I do not think that Im ugly or do I lack self- confidence. I’m just fat and it hinders me from wanting to go out. When I did/do hit the streets I dress the part and walk with my head high and flash the million dollar smile. (conceded I know) To fix the problem which started 3 years ago I tried Alli, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, South Beach, Special K Diet and just about everything I could think of as well as hitting the gym on campus when I could. Nothing worked I had no will power. For the past 6 months I have been walking and trying to eat healthy. Sad but I even bought a dog so that I would have to go walking. About the eating healthy I travel quite a bit for work and like many others fast food joints and I are really good friends. I try to order fish or chicken sandwiches but the bread is what is killing me. My feet, back and knees are telling me it is time to get some help.
About a month ago I was researching WLS. A family friend got the lap band about 8 years ago and she is doing great. I was a long road for her and I watched her go though many changes. So, when I decide that I would try it out, I initially was going for the lap band but I had some reservations about having a foreign object in my body. When I saw the vertical sleeve I was hooked (like cutting off 85% of your stomach is normal.) I researched everything from surgeons, you tube videos of the procedure and people progress, I even stalked this site until I was sure that VSG would be right for me. This is getting long so I will cut it short here. I look forward to going to my seminar next weekend. I have chosen Dr. Lavin in Covington La. He is the best around from what I heard. The family friend with the lap band went to him. While doing research on him I learned he is the surgeon that teaches other surgeons how to do the procedure, so hell yeah he’s doing mine lol. Okay well as I progress more with finding out my date and everything else I will update my story.
Before I go I would just like to say how moved I have been by a lot of you on here. The inspiration that I have encountered is electric. Congrats to those who have met goal, are on their way to goal and those who have just set a goal. We are in this to win this and I’m happy to see there are people that I can go through this with. Thanks!
