My insurance requires the psych eval for everyone. There is a whole list of requirements from them and that is just one of them. The doctor might require it also but in this case it was the ins. However, as I said before, I didn't like doing all that stuff while I was doing it but now I'm glad I did it.

I had to have a psych evaluation plus 3 months seeing my doctor and dieting, seeing a nutritionist, seeing a physical therapist once a week and exercising at a gym 3 times a week, and a 5 years of medical records from my doctor. All of this had to be documented and submitted to the ins before they would approve the procedure. I started in September and finished on Dec 21. I got my approval on Feb 1 and had my surgery on Feb 16. I have lost a total of 53 lbs. I weighed 266 lb to start and now weigh 213. I have a friend who was self-pay and she didn't have to do any of the above. I hated doing all that stuff while I was doing it but I think I am glad now because I was in much better health when I actually had the surgery and I think I recovered much more quickly than I would have otherwise. I think I am getting my first fill on March 12. :clap2: My doctor is Dr. Wilkenfeld in Conroe, TX and he and his office are great. I'm really glad I chose to use him Peggy

New here, 15 months postop!

I don't know how to get it either. Maybe someone will tell us. -
I had been walking for an hour a day before surgery and had been eating right for the last 6 months before surgery and had lost 47 lbs. However, after surgery it still took me longer to recover than I thought it would. It has been 2 weeks now and I still can't walk for an hour and still can't walk fast. I went back to work on the 5th day and I feel I should have waited a few more days. I am doing great now though. I even have on my jeans(loose fitting) today for spirit day at school. I still have only lost 5 lbs since surgery but haven't had a fill yet so I am happy with that.

I had my surgery on Friday and went back to work on the following Wednesday and I feel it was too soon. I should have stayed home that whole week but it has been 2 weeks now since the surgery and I am doing fine. Still a little sore and can't wear my jeans on casual Fridays but otherwise I am great!

I don't know but I find I'm having the same problem. I sip on water all day but I still have to make myself get enough. I'm not drinking all the time like I used to do. But, on the plus side I'm only getting up a couple of times during the night when it used to be 5 or 6 or more. -

Hi! Dr. Wilkenfeld did my surgery too! I am 61 and just had my surgery on Feb 16. I started this last September. My ins had me go through a 3 month program. I had to see a physcologist, a nutritionist, visit my doctor every month (and they had to have my medical records for the last 5 years), and see a phyiscal therapist every week and work out 3 times a week. I weighed 266 lbs when I started and by the time I got approval for my surgery, I had lost 47 lbs. I finished the 3 month program on Dec 21 and got approval for my surgery on Feb 1st. The ins company did not have a problem with the fact that I had already lost so much weight and I don't have any healthe problems that would qualify me. I have lost weight like that many times over the years but never been able to keep it off. That is what I hope the lapband surgery helps me with. I have lost 5 lbs since having the surgery 2 weeks ago and I'm not sure when my first fill is going to be. I think on March 13. Right now I don't feel restricted at all and the weight I have lost since surgery is because I am still dieting. I don't feel hungry most of time so it isn't really hard to eat right. And by the way, I have a new great-granddaughter, just 3 weeks old. As far as going back to work I had my surgery done on Friday and went back to work on the following Wednesday but really wish I had stayed off the whole week. Of course my age has a lot to do with that. The preop diet for me wasn't too bad. I ate one small serving of meat and a green vegetable, oatmeal or eggs, and two protein shakes a day with fruit in them. -

I tried to answer this before but am not sure where my message went. I am 61 and have just had surgery on Feb 16. I had to jump through a lot of hoops for the ins company too. I am going to post this and if it works then I will tell you my experience. GreatGranny I think my first message finally got where it was suppose to so don't pay any attention to this one.

If you have to do the 6 month program just remember that it is worth it in the end and it really passes faster than you might think. Talk to your ins company to see what their policy is if you lose weight during that period.
