  1. Thanks! There's a YMCA being built in my area of the burbs, I'm hoping to be able to afford that. I haven't worked in a year, I am WAY out of shape. The pool would be ideal....ahhh...
  2. In miligrams, how much is too much Carbohydrates in your days intake? What is considered a low sodium intake? *smiles*
  3. Believe me, I don't want to overlook it, my surgeon requires you to follow the South Beach diet. Part of the reason I gave up on it was because the diet was TOO strict. If I had just a teeny bit of wiggle room, I'd do better. Surgeon says one thing, dietician another, I swear I went crazy.
  4. Well Thank you! That makes it simple enough!
  5. It took me 5 very long, humiliating years having jumped off the Bandwagon, to do a whole lot of Soul searching. During that time, I found a therapist who deals with my special section of the DSMV3 and in addictions, food addiction in my case. We have been working very hard to get myself into a place where I can deal with and learn from my addiction. I have my appointment with my surgeon on the 27th, to discuss getting me re-filled and back on the wagon. I continue to learn from my mistakes, always will. And I made the appointment. That is where I started. And I joined this forum where I always find such compassionate, kind, like-minded people to share with. Thank you forever!

OMG, I need more information on the revision surgery! Awake or not awake? Just how much pain during and after? Recovery time at home? Cost to Medicare? More info please?

Cazzy, Ooooh, you've been a Good Girl haven't you! I see that not only have you lost a lot of weight, but you're at goal! Major kudo's to you! :D I say, whatever you're doing...keep doing it! So you're riding your bike all by yourself, wow. You give me SO much hope! I agree with you that you should do whatever works for you, as long as it works, right? I have a closet full of jeans that I wore when I was lighter. I hang my head in embarassment, but I really, really want to be able to fit them again. And it wouldn't take a miracle, just hard work. Besides, jeans are so expensive in plus sizes, one less thing I have to buy. I hope to achieve the success you have one day. (year)....Again, Congratulations! P.S. I was going to have that same signature put on my post's! How odd that you quoted it. And it's so true.

Thanks for the Welcome! After I gave up on my band, I weighed myself sporadically as I gained and lost but ultimately gained. I experienced many shocking moments (like you mentioned) as I stepped on the scale and saw that I gained, again. So I stopped. I don't know about weighing myself every day, after I get re-filled. I mean, the suspense just kills me as I lose weight but am not sure if I would do it every day. Maybe once or twice a week, at my gym. My scale at home has multiple personalities, as it gives you a different weight each time, so weighing at home is not a good option. I just don't want to be upset if I gain a pound or not lose, so I guess it'd have to be one or two, maybe three times a week. I see what you mean about the "good" feeling of being accountable to your surgeon when it comes to eating and what you eat. Personally, I need that, but don't want to have to need that forever. While I work with my training wheels I'll "ride along" with my surgeon and dietician, but would ultimately like to "ride without the training wheels" further down the road. Meaning, I'd like to learn how to be accountable to myself. But for now, I need my dietician! The structure is very necessary for me to discipline myself as well. I hate journalling my foods, but it is a necessary thing for me, if I want success. And it forces me to be honest both with myself and with my dietician. Oh yea, no I stopped seeing my surgeon because of shame and disgust with myself and the whole thing. I was not ready when I was banded. I see people on this site that are not ready, or are not understanding what they've done and what to expect. I had plenty of time and therapy to figure out why I failed the band, so I have some knowledge. I can't wait till I get filled again (I left my surgeon after he completely unfilled me) and start over!
  9. Hi, My surgeon puts you on the South Beach diet. I was banded five years ago and was unfilled a year later, I gained back what I lost and then some. I have an appointment with him in a week to see if I can re-start the Band process. I had alot of problems adapting to the SoB diet. I found it difficult to shop for as I have very, very little cash to buy large quantities of an item I'll use once or twice before it goes bad. Or, I was just seriously dumbfounded by the do's and don't's of the restrictions. Half of the time I will be cooking for myself, the other half for me and my husband. Cooking for two (kind of like, one because I'll be eating so little) is hard for me. I don't like to cook, my husband always does that. Though I know I will have to learn how to cook real soon! Have any of you had to follow the SoB diet? If so, HOW did you do it? I know of the web site and the books, but would like to hear from a person actively on the diet. I need to make this work!!!

    ???

Hopefully, your surgeon is aware of your kidney problem and can help you figure out how to get your water requirements straight. But I'd definitely talk to your surgeon about your drinking problem.

Joe, I'm back from 2007. I have my own set of reasons why I failed my Band and Myself ( see "My Story" on my profile). I don't remember my surgery weight, but my peak weight was 362, I weighed myself three weeks ago at 334 but am not sure what I weigh now. I'm going to my gym again tomorrow, so I'll weigh in again. I hope you are able to be successful once again! I can probably relate to you in a few ways, go ahead and ask, I'm an open book, if you wanna talk. It sucks royally to have to start all over again, but it can be done! The BEST of my BEST wishes to you in your recovery. It was very brave of you to post, btw.
  12. My surgeon uses the South Beach Diet. mylynn, Thanks for showing so well what you do yourself. As for 'fat"- between 20-50? Isn't that a large gap in between? That's one of the big one's for me, well, they ALL are ... I like fatty foods, but don't mind cutting down drastically. I'm just confused by the large gap. Will I be bad at closer to 50 g's or unecessarily good at 20? Carbs, I enjoy those too and will need to read more labels to see just how much I enjoy them. Protein, my Clinic is BIG on protein! And I'm starting to see why. But I had trouble getting enough protein in my daily menu. I used Liquid Protein, but can't afford that this time around. I see people like to use shakes but am confused that that is liquid nutrition. My surgeon wants me to eat my nutrition. But HOW do you get that many grams in? Never could figure that out. You? Cholesterol-again, big gap there. Like carbs, I'll have to read labels. Sodium- I never have added salt to my food, didn't want to start another bad habit. But like you, I have it in a lot of the foods I eat unknowingly. Water - Oh how I dislike innocent water! But there are plenty of ways to get that in. I'm a big drinker and gulper, something I need to end. Plus, I'm only awake 12 hours or so everyday, how do I fit it all in? My Clinic demands no water 1/2 hour before, during or 1/2 hour after any meal and they require 3 meals, 2 Snacks and if you're good, one dessert. I haven't done the math, but it looks like my windows to drink are slim. I don't like that, I get dry mouth bad. How many Ounces do they mean by 12 glasses of water? 12oz? I have a bladder control issue during sleep, so I gotta stop drinking pretty early. Of course, I am asking your opinion or anyone else who wants to chime in. I messed up the first time around, my fault, (see "My Story" ) and need to get it right this time. Thankfully I have all you folks on LBT to turn to for advise. Thanks for being so informative, and don't worry, I know it's what works for you. It just helps me make better decisions.

    Struggles.....

First of all, HOORAY for your success at losing anything let alone 85 pounds! You should be very proud of yourself. You say you can't get motivated, right? Mentally and/or physically? Give it some thought and go from there. Talk with your husband, or go on this site like you did. You were NOT whining, btw! Exercise is very important to achieving a healthy body, and an appropriate diet is neccesary to losing and keeping weight off. I'd buckle down hard on both. If you give it your best, you'll succeed! As for the issue of the gym/friend situation, I agree there are many ways to avoid that situation and still get a good workout in, like stated above. Maybe you could start slow and work back up to a good routine. When I workout, I drown out the noise of the gym with my iPod, and I also put on the fastest music I have to keep me going. I avoid making exercise friends at the gym because I prefer to do my thing alone, I can concentrate better and don't ever feel need to be with another person in order to workout. But you say you liked having buddies and you miss them, maybe you can find a class or pool where folks get together to exercise? 15 pounds gained is not failure, just a glitch. All depends on how you look at it. Be kind to yourself!

"pawn Stars"- Corey, Was He Banded?

THANK YOU for the link! I didn't want to think he had it done when he hadn't. Good to know he's so successful, gives hope to all of us.
  15. Hello, Someone mentioned that Corey, from the History Channel's, "Pawn Stars" had LapBand surgery. I watch the show all the time and Corey is my favorite guy in the family. He's so smart, kinda cute too. Have you heard anything about this?

    Uhuh Duck Face

LOL you guys! I see the same stupid duckface all over [a social network]. So many people have done this and annoyed so many people that there is a site devoted to posting the worst of the duckfaces. If you want to check it out it's http://www.duckface.com. Takes a strong stomach though. Maybe if these people knew there was such a thing as "duckface", and that people are picking on them, maybe they'll stop. Ya think? Doubt it....

    Fill At The Hospital?

All of my fills, years ago, were done in the hospital. But that's probably because the Office is IN the hospital.

    Have You Ever Experienced This?!!

Check with your Dr to rule out anything serious. But you have described what happens to me every blue moon. It is the most wicked, painful, sharp pain right below the left ribs. I can't sit, I can't stand, it's awful. I get this under all sorts of circumstances, so I can't figure out what it is. I went to my Dr and she said it was gas. Man, ALL that horrific pain and she says, "gas." Anyway, it lasts for about a minute or two to ten minutes and then just goes away as quickly as it came. This may not be your case at all, just my two cents. But if it bothers you, see your Doc. Good Luck!
  20. I love Corey, he's my fave on the show! But you gotta admit, he get's no respect, as smart as he is. Although I don't know what he see's in Chumley. More on topic.....I am always excited when people in the public eye have had or speak positively about Lap Band surgery and Life. So far, the Hollywood reviews have been positive, let's hope it stays that way! Well, I guess for now, we'll have to be our own Hollywood and tell each other how great Band living can be! Each positive word keeps me going....
  21. Hello, When I was banded back in 07, my fills were free. Now they're telling me I need to go through my medicare. I don't understand why it's no longer covered. Does anybody pay through Medicare, if so, what is your 20% payment? I need to prepare myself.
  22. I know what some of the initials in some words or phrases mean, but I'm stumped by this one. What does PCOS mean? Is there a page I can refer to to learn all the lingo? Thanks!

    What Does ______ , Mean?

Thank you Pandora, In the context's I keep seeing it in, PCOS, it makes sense now that it means Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome. Thanks for the clarification. Do you know of any threads that can help me out with other intialed terms?
  24. I am a heavy drinker (ie. pop, iced tea, iced coffee...all decaf) . I know I'm going to have to switch to Water, which I'll choose flavored and calorie free, but I still like to drink a lot. I've been off the wagon for a very long time and am going back to start all over again and hope to be filled soon. If I eat 3 meals a day, plus the 2-3 snack's my surgeon suggest's...and I can't drink a 1/2 hour before eating and a 1/2 hour after eating, when do I drink? How do you find the time? Long story, but I sleep 10-11 hours a day. I want to keep drinking! Can you help me figure out how to keep drinking a lot while following my clinic's guidelines? Thanks!

    A Letter To Starbucks

I know it's no Starbucks, or even a Frapoccino (HOW do you spell that!!!), but what I do is make a pot of decaf, you could use caff, but I like decaf. Anyway, let it cool in the fridge over night, in the morning, I add skim milk and sweetener. Voila! An iced coffee. You can also add coffee flavorings, or use flavored coffee. But I need my iced coffee fix, so this is what I do to get it. Oh, some people blend their coffee with ice. I have some recipes from Pinterest, I should alter them and post them here. P.S. I LOVE your letter to Starbucks!
