  1. Hi Everyone, I'm a male sleever that has relapsed back into bad habits. I did my surgery back in May 2012. I initially had my starting weight at 122 kg (268 lbs). I successfully dropped the weight down to 75 kg (165 lbs) during the first 18 months. For my first two years, I always logged my meals on MyFitnessPal and worked out 4-5x a week. Was averting 1300-1600 calories daily for maintenance. Unfortunately, has a series of personal life events that completely overwhelmed me in 2014. Lots of depression and stress in my life, so all the bad habits crept back in. I got up to 100 kg (220 lbs) last month and I was horrified! Decided to do something happen and regain the willpower to restart my former positivity life. It's amazing what a negative mindset can do wreck havoc! Anyways, after researching these forums for fellow regainers, I decided to follow the pouch reset diet ( http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-pouch-reset-losing-weight-after-weight-regain/) to jump start my path to getting back to losing weight. It's seriously more challenging than the 5 day pouch reset since it's 10 days! I'm currently at the end of Day 5. Wow! Being on a liquid diet is really tough! It was so much easier to drink liquids immediately post-surgery than today! I'm shrinking the 10 days to 8 days (shorting the last two stages). For Days 1-3, I hovered around a calorie intake between 500-700 calories, Protein around 70g, and carbs almost nonexistent (<25 grams). Days 4-5, I got up to 1000 calories daily, 70 grams, and tried to keep carbs under 85 grams. Key aspects that helped me through the 5 days: - try to exercise if you can. I did daily cardio of 150-200 calories burn. - drink lots and lots of Water. - log everything on an app. - I still get hungry between meals (and I have to remind myself that this is head hunger and not real hunger). - BE POSITIVE AND HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET FOR CHANGE! I'm weighed myself and I'm down 2.5 kgs (5.5 lbs). I assume that some of this is water loss. I'm seriously looking forward to tomorrow when I can start having soft protein (Hooray!). Hope this post helps some of the regainers out there. It does happen, but we need to get back on track! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hi everyone, One of the challenges of VSG is it's relative recent adoption vs the by-pass and the band; which leads to limited amount of info on long terms results of the procedure. I managed to stumble accross two studies that have measured the results of patients 8 years out. The results are quite encouraging. The first study shows on average patients managed to keep 46% of the excess weight loss off and the second study shows 68% of excess weight loss off. Here's the links for those of you who are interested. http://journals.lww.com/annalsofsurgery/Abstract/2012/08000/Laparoscopic_Sleeve_Gastrectomy_for_Super_Obese.12.aspx http://www.soard.org/article/S1550-7289(11)00579-X/abstract?elsca1=etoc&elsca2=email&elsca3=1550-7289_201211_8_6&elsca4=elsevier

    2 years post op!

Any useful advice that you'd like to share with us novices about your journey these past two years?

    Having Issues Drinking Water

Typically, patients undergoing major surgery involving anesthesia tend not to tolerate plain drinking Water. The intolerance goes away after 3-4 weeks. Don't know what this happens but our bodies work in mysterious ways. When I did my surgery, the hospital actually recommended that I stay on broths, sugar free jells, sugar free popsicles, and Crystal Light (added to water). I couldn't stand drinking plain water for at least the first six weeks. Another tip is to freeze the water and suck on ice chunks. Hope this helps.
  5. Anyone on Propecia or Rogaine post surgery?
  6. One of my dreams as a kid (and continuing into adulthood) from watching all these action movies is to some day have a washboard stomach. Obviously, in my pre-sleeve life, this was next to impossible as you need good genetics and a body fat composition of only 8-15%. I'm six weeks out post surgery and on my journey to a healthier life. I was wondering if any of you of long termers have actually managed to get a six pack abs. It would be a great inspiration for all of us.
  7. Hi everyone, I'm quite pleasantly suprised to see the fantastic results of all the weight loss from the people on this forum. I was sleeved about 5 weeks ago and moving quite well to losing my excess weight. Some of the weight loss figures I've seen on this forum are just impressive. In some cases 100+ lbs in a year. My question is can you ever lose too much weight? (E.g. Drop below a BMI of 20 and end up being super skinny) I hear people are on 1000 - 1200 calories per day during maintenance mode and that just sounds too low. Any insight / feedback is greatly appreciated.

    May Sleeve Buddies!

Hi Everyone, A pleasure to meet you all. I was sleeved on May 29th at the John Hopkins Hospital by Dr. Schweitzer. I wasn't asked to go on a prolonged pre-op diet, just needed to be on liquids before the surgery (so I had more time to say good bye to old friends such as pizzas and cheeseburgers . Anyways, I was 260 lbs at the date of surgery. Today (9 days post-op), I'm at 249 lbs. I'm also ready to move on the puree diet today. Looking forward to some my first plate of scrambled eggs! Moe

    Eating While Travelling

Thanks for the pointers, Lissa Greatly appreciated!
  11. Hi everyone, I'm a newbie who just got sleeves on May 29th. I had my ups and downs but am recovering well. I actuall flew in from Turkey in the Middle East to do the surgery in the US. Well, since all is okay so far, I'm planning to fly back home in a few days. The only issue is that it's over 10 hours in the plane. I'm finishing off my liquid diet phase and will enter my purée phase in a few days. The challenge would be what to eat when I'm on the plane. I'm thinking of packing a protein powder packages. Maybe having a small Gerber baby food jar. Don't know what TSA will let me take with me on board. Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
