  1. I have the same questions and we are hoping to become parents (17 months from now!) I am almost 6 weeks out of surgery and the primary reason for surgery was to be able to have children eventually. So far so good, I will be retested in a month to see if I need to begin taking metformin, my doctor wanted to give me an opportunity to get the weight off with surgery.

    Crockpot Turkey Chili

That sounds about what I am doing. It isn't easy avoiding those carbs, but I've been making lots of fish and chicken! Thank you again for the advice!

    Crockpot Turkey Chili

I love your blog and your recipes. What are your goal numbers each day? I shoot for 80g of Protein, 30g of carbs and as much Water as I can drink (I usually get in more than 64oz.) I asked the Nutritionist about carbs, but she would only tell me to focus on protein and water. I just wanted to see how someone else is doing! Thank you!

    Stopped Lossing Lbs

I had the same stall happen....doesn't it drive you crazy?! I kept thinking I can't believe I got 85% of my stomach cut out only to loose 17 pounds and then nothing. Luckily it only lasted a week and I've been able to loose a steady 3-4 pounds per week since. You'll get there!
  5. I am officially 6 days post-op and weighed myself for the first time since surgery this morning. I really wanted to wait until I lost most of the swelling. I was in a lot of pain and I didn't want to add depression if I hadn't lost anything yet. Well, I have lost 15 pounds in 6 days! I cannot express how excited I am. I have had a rough few days, but I am feeling so encouraged and ready to take on the world! I am so thankful that there is a procedure like the sleeve that can give me my life back! Praise God!

    Jerks.

I feel your frustration! I have found that my parents and coworkers have been extremely supportive.....my in laws? Not so much! They continue to eat and offer horrible junk food to me. I know they are just being polite, but last weekend we had dinner at BJ's a pizzeria for my nephew's birthday. They proceeded to have pizza after pizza delivered to the table and dropped in front of me. I am still in the mushie stage....pizza is NOT on the menu. I finally got up and excused myself to the restroom when they delivered the dessert. It is definitely something I am going to need to get used to, but that doesn't make it any easier.

    Hypoglycemia?

You are welcome! It is amazing how our body changes after surgery. We can live off of so little food. I am still getting used to my stomach size, my eyes still think I can eat a large portion. I really think this procedure has given me my life back!

    Hypoglycemia?

I am 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and had issues with hypoglycemia pre-op. To be honest my hunger is so different now. Now, I notice that if it has been 2-3 hours since I've eaten I feel that little drop in energy or I start yawning, grinding my jaw etc. I know it is time to eat! When I was first out of surgery for the first week I was afraid to eat or drink because it was uncomfortable. I definitely think my blood sugar was low because my energy was gone. I notice that the days that I start with a Protein shake that prepares me to have a good day. Really as long as you listen to your body and eat every few hours I haven't had any crashes. I went to a family dinner and bowling night last weekend. I brought a little cooler with turkey meat and cheese in the car and ate twice throughout the night. I have just learned to be prepared and I won't get into trouble. Best of luck, this is really a journey, but I am thankful I took that first step!

    Yay Starting Soft Foods!

I had the same experience. Each week I feel like I can eat a little more, but it still amazes me how little I need before I get full. Isn't it crazy? My eyes still haven't caught up to the size of my stomach.

    Officially A Post Oper :)

Justine- Another sleever recommended that to me and it worked for me!

    Officially A Post Oper :)

Get an egg-timer and set it for 10 minutes. Every time it rings take another sip. That was the only way I could get myself to keep sipping. The first few days are the worst, you'll turn a corners soon! Hang in there!

    How Do You Do It?

I don't think anyone was able to drink anywhere near 50-60g in the first week. I think your doctor would want you to concentrate more on Water than anything else so you don't get dehydrated. I feel your pain, I am three weeks out and believe me it does get easier! One sleever told me to set a timer and force yourself to take another sip every 10 minutes. That helped remind me to keep drinking all day. Good luck!
  14. Made it through the weekend including 2 birthday parties and cosmic bowling....all sticking to my new lifestyle!

Day 1 Pre Op Liquid Diet & I Hate It Already

The pre-op diet is absolute torture! I was also on it for three weeks and thought I was going to pull my hair out. It does get better! The first few days in particular your body goes through withdrawal and detox! Hang in there!

Looking For Recipe Ideas For Puree Stage

I've been living off of laughing cow cheese and saltine crackers this week. Once a day I allow my self 3 saltines otherwise I wrap the cheese in a soft piece of turkey deli meat.

Any July 17Th Sleevers Or Close To That Date

Same here, my surgery was July 29th and I lost 10 pre-op and another 20 pounds since surgery. I also feel like I am slow moving particularly since I lost so much the first week. Water and Protein are a daily struggle. I've been taking classes at LA Fitness 4-5 times a week. Keep it up ladies!

    Worried About Egd

I was terribly nervous about the EGD and it was required by my surgeon before surgery. In all honesty, the worst part was getting the I.V. Once they give you the "happy juice" you don't remember anything and I woke up and went home within an hour. My throat felt a little raw, but it really wasn't a big deal at all. You've already done the hard part, you'll be fine!

    How Painful Was The Surgery?

I did have gas pains and definitely needed to be helped out of the hospital bed the first day. I was amazed, though, at how good I felt after three days. I had myself terrified and worked up that I was going to be bed ridden for a month and in miserable pain. I took liquid tylenol with codine for the first few days, but my surgery was on a Thursday and by Sunday I turned a major corner. It really is funny how worked up we can get ourselves and I thought the worrying was worse than the actual pain. You'll definitely want a pillow (especially for the car ride home) and a heating pad for the gas/muscle soreness for the first few days. I slept in our recliner since lying down wasn't pleasant. I really think you'll do fine. It is a small price to pay!

    Having A Hard Time...and A Tad Regret

I am with you ladies! It is amazing to me what a chore eating has become. I also feel like I've gotten this under control only to push myself a little to far and it all comes back up. I've found that 3 saltine crackers and 2 pieces of laughing cow cheese is one of the only things I can tolerate right now. The shakes are nauseating as well as anything sugar free. On a positive note I feel like I can already drink more Water than in the first two weeks and that is encouraging. I am hoping in one more week when I move to soft foods I will have more success getting all of my needed Protein. No one said this would be easy, but geez!!!
  22. Three weeks post-op and 30 pounds down! I can already feel the difference!

    Just Curious

I am almost three weeks post-op and had no complications. I agree with JDHenin....reading this site before surgery made me a paranoid mess! I think as long as you are honest with yourself and are aware of the risks that is enough, no reason to be so anxious you sabotage pre-op. If you can, find a support group locally. I met a group of women a few weeks before my surgery and it was great motivation to see people at different stages. Not one person regretted having the operation which eased my mind.
  25. I HATE STALLS!!! I am almost three weeks out and I believe I was in a stall last week. Week One- 17 pounds Week Two- 0 pounds Week Three- 3 pounds I was so encouraged after that first week, I figured the weight would just start falling off. Not so much, this process is difficult and NOT the easy way out. STAY STRONG!!!
