Feeling In Denial ?!?!?
LouiseC replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is something I have done on the occasions where I have felt a bit down about my current stall. I have gone to my supermarket and looked at things that weigh the amount I have lost. I just look and I marvel at what I see. It cheers me up no end to look at three 10 kilo sacks of potatoes and know I have lost that much. I look at the kilo bags of frozen fries in the freezers and chuckle as I imagine 30 of them - because that is what I have lost. I know it is silly, but it does wonders for my mood and state of mind! -
This is a bit embarrassing but I often find myself chewing something for so long that I realise I am avoiding swallowing! I am taking this as a cue to stop eating now and do a very polite spit out :-0

Almost Too Good To Be True
LouiseC replied to SoonToBeThinKAT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine was 3 weeks but I was self pay. I made an appointment with the surgeon and made my decision while in her office! She booked my surgery then and there and had a gap that matched a good time for me work wise given that I would need to have time off. She then got me an appointment with the NUT and I started the pre op diet 2.5 weeks out. Easy! -
I Feel Like A Failure :(
LouiseC replied to BentleyJade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay. This is about choices. You know the sleeve is a tool, not a magic wand. It is still up to you to make good choices for body. You know what you need to do, the question is, will you choose to do it? Small, regular meals. Protein first. Don't drink your carbs. Don't drink while you eat. Keep hydrated. These are simple rules to live by. Don't actively choose to fail when you have the tool that can help you succeed. It's really up to you now to make this work. Keep on the sweet tea and the grazing approach to eating and yes, you will likely fail. So choose not to. Go back to basics. Stick to the plan. Succeed. -
Lack of protein. Basically, your body is focussing on metabolising what energy (food) you are giving it and this is taking all the focus and diverting your body from non essentials like nails and hair. Increase your protein.

I am another who was on puréed before leaving hospital. I was told to have food at room temperature initially. This helped.

Lose Weight By Stopping At Mcdonald's Once A Week
LouiseC replied to COsleeveDude's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Sorry, I am not in the US. That sure sounds reasonable though so I can understand why you would do it! -
You look fantastic, and check out those cheekbones! I love your eyes. Thank you for sharing!

Amazing transformation. You are beautiful. Seeing this actually bought a wee tear to me eye. Thank you so much for sharing this. -
When I was reluctant to tell my parents a good friend asked me how I would feel if one of my children had major surgery and did not tell me. That was enough to give me pause to reconsider my decision. Then I told my parents. And my kids.

For Those Who Weigh Every Day -
LouiseC replied to KS Fort Worth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh everyday and see no need to feel guilty for it. I weight the same time every day and chart the weight. It helps me to understand all sorts of things about how I lose weight, my cycle, and things that cause me to retain fluids etc. I get that it can demotivate some but it doesn't have that effect on me. -

This is me. I do not dream of food and I eat for nutrition mostly. I am astounded at how I have almost zero desire for things I used to crave, like chocolate. I have almost no desire for chocolate and I never thought that would happen! I can walk past the free samples in the market with no desire to eat them at all. I think about food but only really because with having to get the right nutrition in I do have to plan out my eating each day! I was at a fundraiser last night with extended family and there was chips and dips, cheeses, nibbles and pizzas. None of it appealed at all. In fact, I became grossed out watching others eating the pizza, it looked revolting! I was so scared that after the surgery it would be easy for me to 'graze' but as I am not hungry I don't see the point. I don't seem to suffer from head hunger either. I do see things sometimes and think "oh that looks nice" but it is rarely followed with the desire to put it in my mouth! I have been reading a bit about cellular memory and I am wondering whether hunger is a cellular memory that has gone with the bit of my stomach they removed!

Help Sought Understanding Protein Absorption
LouiseC posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hello Since the surgery I have become lactose intolerant. And since I worked this out I have stopped taking Protein shakes. I am in a stall and often at a loss for what to eat easily and want to get back on the shakes. However, I am aware that a lot of the lactose free Protein Shakes on the market contain protein which is not easily absorbed or beneficial. I have been looking at soy, pea, and egg white protein powders. Does anyone know what I should be looking for or what I should avoid? Most threads on here discussing protein powders refer to brands which are no good to me as I live in New Zealand and do not have access to the same brands. So I am looking to understand types of protein rather than specific brand recommendations. Thank you! Louise -

We don't have either of those shops here. I live in a country where all beef is grass fed and organic or free range is easily accessible. What is not so accessible is highly processed foods like protein powders. The local nutrition store I went to today said I would struggle to find a true lactose free whey isolate, which was disappointing. -

To be honest, those nutrition shops intimidate me a little. Actually, a lot But I am going to suck it up and go talk to them. I have visions of bulky weight lifter types working there looking at me wondering why a middle aged fat lady is in their store. Which I know is ridiculous. I have money I am willing to give them in exchange for their products so surely it can't be that hard...... This is my mission for today! -
I had no pain worth noting. I was uncomfortable and took the pain meds as a preventative and clearly they worked because I felt zero actual pain. I did not have a morphine pain pump or anything like that. Just codeine and paracetamol which I took four hourly for about 5 days and then nothing. I had open abdominal surgery two years ago for a strangulated hernia and that was extremely painful, I also have had a Caesarian birth, in comparison the sleeve hardly rates.
