When we starve ourselves the body chooses to burn muscle before fat. You are doing yourself no favours by not eating. Choose wisely. Eat. This is a tool not a magic wand. It is still up to you to make the right choices and right now, you are failing at making those choices. Protein. Eat protein first Fluids. Get them in. Don't drink while you eat. Take your Vitamins. It is a pretty simple formula. Stick to it and you will succeed. Try to cheat it and you will suffer unintended consequences. Just do the right thing here and you will find your weight loss will occur when you work with your body, work with your sleeve, rather than try and fight it, cheat it or starve it.

I think technically I am an hourglass, and I am looking like returning to an hourglass as the weight comes off. But for the past few years I am going to give me my own body type of potato!

Wine? 4 Weeks Post Op
LouiseC replied to pattivalvo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no alcohol for six weeks due to risks (something to do with bleeding or alcohol thinning the blood and impacting on the healing stitches internally) and then in moderation due to the empty calories. -
I am post surgery but just have to say Merry Christmas for you! What a great Christmas present to yourself, a new beginning right in time for the New Year. Wonderful!

I was on puréed when I left the hospital. Every surgeon and NUT seems to give different advice. So listen to who you trust and, most importantly, listen to your body. Personally, I would listen to a surgeon before a NUT. Then I would research what I was told. (you can be unregistered in some places and get a job as a nutritionist. Even registered, the average qualification is a bachelor degree. Surgeons on the other hand are a product of at least 8 years of tertiary education.. And have more to lose if they get it wrong.)

Support Vs. Going It Alone

If you are over 18 and paying for this yourself or at least paying through your own insurance then I would back you 100%. But if your parents pay for your insurance which will pay for this I would caution you against proceeding. -
Blend your protein powder with a handful of frozen mixed berries, makes for a much tastier drink.

Add me to the list of post surgery lactose intolerant sharters! It has stopped since I gave up the lactose. The first was the worst, I was in a hotel room alone and sharted on the floor on my way to the bathroom. I cleaned up as best i could, but I have since asked my PA not to book me back into that hotel. The shame!

People have misunderstood me. I do not dispute that alcohol should be approached with caution post WLS, particlularly for those who were addicted to anything prior to surgery My issue is with a professional making a claim as though it is fact, and citing statistics based on estimates and opinions rather than on research. It is professionally irresponsible to do so. I am sorry to have not been clear in my earlier posts. I do tend to react strongly when people use artificial statistics and unfounded theories to scaremonger. FYI - my surgeon and my NUT recommended wine in moderation as part of a normal and healthy diet.

Again, those articles focus on bypass surgery. Alcohol is absorbed and metabolised differently for bypass patients than sleeve patients. None of them cite a specific or comprehensive study or research into cross addiction in sleeve patients. The cross over addiction theory is a theory. It isnt a fact. Even if it is possible, and it very likely is possible, you need a primary addiction. I know I was NOT addicted to food (or anything else) prior to being sleeved. So the risks for me are so low as to be insignificant.

1 Year Post Op On August 16Th

Wow! What a transformation! Thank you for sharing. -
I. Would have asked for the study that determined this. There has been no comprehensive research into post sleeve cross addiction. Your NUT is very unprofessional to be quoting nonsense like this.

Lol. No, this is definitely new!

It is caused by the reduction in ghrelin as this is not just the hunger hormone but the hormone that regulates body temperature. It will settle down after a full year of seasons! (or so I am told, lying her in socks and with a big blanket!)
