  1. So I was sleeved on June 25th, 2012 and was doing really well for the longest time. lost about 120# by January of this year. However since that point I have stalled in a major way. I am exercising but not to a horrible degree that I would think that I am gaining that much muscle mass. I don't think I am really taking in to many calories, but even if I was taking in a few to many I would think that with my exercise I would still be dropping even if it was at a very small rate. I am starting to get concerned, I have about another 50#s to go according to my doctor. I am wondring if anyone else has had this issue or has any ideas. I will say that I am very diligent about carbs and limiting if not staying away completely. Please help.
  2. I am in the Cypress area, and would love to see if there is a group that would like to possibly get to get together. I know I have seen threads here before but nothing concrete. I would be willing to start and manage a Facebook page if anyone is interested. I am being sleeved on the 25th of June at Memorial Herman Memorial city by Dr Levia.

    Drinking... Alcohol anyway...

Ok I know I haven't been very active since just after my surgery but I felt like I had to start helping those going into some thing that can change your future so much. Now let me start by saying that at 6 months out was enjoying my drinks on occasion and when I was at Disney got a little buzzed on occasion, so I come at this probably sounding a bit like a hypocrite so I apologize. lets start by looking at the health issues, you are only a month out of your surgery, you should still be soft foods and yes alcohol is a liquid but it is highly corrosive to the stomach and your stomach is still healing. It can take 8-10 weeks before your stomach is "healed" and more than 6 months before it begins to scar and be considered healed. So there is a health issue to drinking. Put aside the addiction aspect it can cause many issues. I also want to address the fact that you say that you couldn't get past a milestone without drinking, I assume that this is a way that you have celebrated large milestones for most of your life, but one thing you have to keep in mind is that after a procedure like this it is a lifestyle change. You can't have a procedure like this and not change your life going forward. There needs to be a mindset change in the way you think about everything you are about to embark. I was a big foodie before my surgery and used to "enjoy" food well beyond a reasonable limit. But when i went to Disney I had to change the way I looked at food, it was a temptation to over eat and go to far but I know that I will not succeed if I don't make major changes. For those that find people on here rude for trying to help keep in mind that people come on this forum to get help and insight into life before, during and after the surgery, these replies are just trying to help those that might read these posts. While drinking is OK there are cautions that need to be taken, and while it may be OK for some it could be dangerous for others. I am sorry for my rant but it felt like it needed to be said.
  4. Ok I have a huge issue, I am trying like heck to keep hydrated, but I am having a huge issue. Drinking straight water is a no go, it sends me to the bathroom to void almost immediatly. its not only water, I have trouble drinking any liquid, but I can eat my frozen drinks. I take G2, freeze it and than put it in my blender on ice crush, and that I can more of and get more "fluid" in. does anyone have any suggestions, it makes it difficult if I am out.
  5. I am in the same place. I am week 5 and am having a huge issue with eating, even when I do eat I tend to get quit naucous. We tried to go to the circus this weekend and I was miserable. About half way through the show I go so bad feeling that I was sure I was going to be sick, and they didn't have anything safe to eat. I settled on some plain nacho chips and it helped. I spend most of my day trying to get fluids in, or trying to eat because if I get to hungry I get sick. I am a slave to my kitchen and it drives me nuts. If I could invent a time machine and go back I would but this is miserable. I know this seems like a rant but I am very frustrated.

    Miss My Soda

Also to add i have a Soda Stream and you can adjust the carbonation to your taste and the flavors typically have less sugar than regular soda as they have sucralose in them. They have all kinds of flavors it is a great.

    Miss My Soda

I actually freeze my drinks and than shred them in the blender and eat them. If they are carbonated, the freezing kills the carbonation and it helps. It works to get me over the cravings.

    Any June 25Th Sleevers?

sorry its been so long since my post, as I am sure you are all waiting on pins and needles for my post  . almost 3 weeks post op and things are a roller coaster for me, today seems to be a good day. it has been very emotional for me, I used to cook for stress, and now I can't and this has to be the second most stressfull event in my life. I was doing pretty good until Tuesday ( my two week follow up), where my doctor approved me to move onto phase 3. So I came home and at a scrambled egg, well I may have overdone it a bit and got a little sick, and since then I feel like something is stuck in the back of my throat. I moves from time to time but won't go away, I have gone back to liquids but it is very frustrating. I am just having a terribly difficult time learning the signals from my body, I think once this thing in my throat is gone I will be very happy and be on the way to feeling like myself again.

    Help!

I am 9 days post surgery and feeling amazingly good. I am doing ok with most of the food and still have a little gas. Most of the pain has subsided, and I have my 2 week follow up next tuesday. The problem that I am having right now is one of my incisions seems to be giving me a little problem. It think this is the one where he got most of his access. It seems a bit on the swollen side, and it feels like there is a golf ball behind it. I am just worried that something might be wrong, if anyone has any input or information that might hlep I would appriciate it.

    Any June 25Th Sleevers?

Ok so I am 5 days post op and just not getting on my computer to post. The surgery went well according to my surgeon. He actually said it was perfect, hard to believe when I see the size of the bruise on my stomach. I am having some discomfort, but not a ton, nothing I can't live with, I just can't wait for the day that I can sleep on my side again. I have only vomited twice since but i am not sure why. I am fighting constant gas and a bit of reflux so I am slow to move on to phase two, but trying slowly. I am hoping like hell that I find the value behind all of this, but I am sure the pot of gold is at the end of rainbow. More luck to everyone.

    Any June 25Th Sleevers?

Ok here is my issue, just over a week out and I have plateaued on my weight loss. my Dr gave me a 20-25 lb weight loss requirement and I am still about 8 lbs off and can't seem to loose anymore. I have my last pre-op appointment with him on Tuesday, so I will see how I am doing. I am following all of my NUT's diet requirements, but just haven't lost anymore. I am scared to death that come the morning of the 25th I won't have lost enough and I will get sent home. At this point of all the fears and concerns I have this is my greatest, to go through all this and then get sent home, what a let down that would be.

    Any June 25Th Sleevers?

I had my pre op appointment at the hospital today, it seems to be getting more real by the day. I keep having the nagging second thoughts of, "if I can loose this weight this way, should I do the surgery". has anyone else had this thought. With that all said, I am still excited and scared, its like getting on the best roller coaster you could ever ride.

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?

the one thing that I must say is that if your surgeon is "PUSHING" something and you aren't comfortable you may want to seek out a surgeon that is willing to listen to you and take what you have to say to heart. Remember this is your body.

    Any June 25Th Sleevers?

I am doing well on my pre-op diet, with the 25 lb requirment I started two weeks ago with the shakes and all, I am down 17lb and still going. I like the idea of following this thread post op to see how we are all doing, and to check in post surgery. I am also wondering if anyone has a list of what they are taking to the hospital for their surgery. I love that we are taking this journey together.

    Too Big For Surgery?

My surgeon has me loosing 20-25lbs prior to surgery. His reason was that it helps to reduce the fat in the liver. Since they have to move the liver to do the procedure it reduces the risk of the liver bleeding and causing more complications. I have never heard of "to big for surgery". if they tell you that ask for and explination, if it as simple as a precaution as mine that it is reasonable. And if that is the case let me know I am having to loose my weight in 3 weeks and am on a protein smoothie diet and it is working. I wish you the best in your continued process, but never give up, keep fighting remember this if for your betterment, don't let anyone stop you.

    Houston Lets Try Again

I completely understand about the idea of to many groups to keep up with, there is a lot out there to deal with. I will say so many people have FB on their many portable devices that they keep up with notifications and updates more readily. I use it for my photography business and it works wonderfully. I am not trying to convince anyone just pointing out the benefits. Also if it is private it stays that way private. I just joined the meetup site and am going to familiarize myself with it. I am going to try to make the event this weekend. I look forward to getting to know everyone and joining in our journey together to a healthier us.

very lovely congratulations on your success.
  24. So I am another Pre-Op Sleever here. Trying to figure out how to start feels like I am posting a singles ad . I decided in March that I wanted to persue the idea of weight loss surgery. Contacted my insurance and got my list of doctors. Went to the first doctor and didn't get a warm fuzzy from him, so I decided to try a different surgeon, Jorge Levia, he is very imformative actually did an exam prior to anything else, and has a great track record. so here we are in June and I have a June 25th surgery date at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital. And while I am excited about where this is going to lead me and the health benifits of it I am scared to death of the surgery itself, and the immediate aftermath. I am starting at 6'2" and about 380, not sure where I am going to end up, but I am just hoping for healthy. I have sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, restless leg syndrome, Fluid around the heart, an enlarged left ventrical and who knows what else. I would love to hear from any sleevers that have apnea and can tell me how this resolved their apnea. The idea of the pain afterwards and the diet is a bit disconserting. I am sure I will do fine but there is still a bit of stress. I am currently on a program to loose some wieght before the surgery to reduce the fat in my liver and that is a depressing process, it is protien smoothies twice a day not to bad but depressing. I know that I am one of many out there but I appriciate any advice. Also if anyone is in the Houston or the Cypress area that was recently sleeved or is going to be sleeved around this time it would be nice to have a sleeve buddy. If you have made it through this tirad I appriciate it.
