  1. I made a post like this today because I went for my first fill and everything went well. There was only one poke and he got my fill in pretty quick, we chit chatted the whole time. I was done and sat up, had my water to make sure I could get it down. All was great. I get up and go out to make my next appointment and I started feeling funny. I told the receptionist I was going to get a drink of water and all I remember is being on the floor and my doctor helping back into a seat. I felt like an idiot. The waiting room was full of people. I'm hoping this is not an every time thing.

    Restriction: Full Vs. Satisfied

I totally agree with you. Too many people have not educated theirselves well enough on what the lap band is truly about.

Is Lap Band Right For Me?

The band isn't for everyone and you want honesty so I'm going to give it to you. If your not ready to change your eating habits and become healthy for yourself then I'd have to say lap band is not for you. To be honest every person is different with what they can and cannot have to eat and drink. If you want to be successful then you have to stop thinking about it as a type of punishment. You do have to give up alot of foods that normal overweight people usually eat and you have to adjust to alot. I won't say it has been easy for me but the last 6 weeks have been very trying for me and I've had to use willpower to not overeat because you won't have restriction until after you get fills in your band but I believe it is all worth it.

I Don't Know What To Eat. Ugh!

My doctor said to only eat between a 1/2 cup to a cup of food. Always put Protein first then small amount of veggies. I take Vitamins to make sure I'm getting the nutrients. I cut out all empty calories which is. Calories from food that isn't giving your body nutrients. My surgeon has a nutritionist working with him so maybe you could visit one. It helps to clear up any questions about nutrition.
  5. I got banded because my whole family is obese. My father died at 36 years old because of complications from his obesity and I was only 10 years old at the time. I currently have children and didn't want to leave them with no mother. I want to get healthier and be there for my family.
  6. My doctor and insurance said most insurances will only pay for the stomach if they will even pay for that. The stomach I was told you need to show evidence of the problem for at least a year so if you want to try to get it covered you need to go to the doctor and have everything documented every time you have a problem. My insurance actually sent me paperwork stated they don't cover any surgeries for skin.

Congrats that is an amazing thing to accomplish.
  8. I love that your always positive and uplifting and that is what so many of us especially in the early stages of the lap band need. Thank you for your inspiration.

    Despetate Newbie

At 5 days post op I was still on full liquids. It sounds to me like you went straight to regular food. I wasn't allowed meat until the mushie stage and that was only tuna until the second week of mushies where I could have chicken. One major thing to remember is just because you can puree it doesn't make it a liquid. My first two weeks were sugar free pop sickles, pudding, protein shakes, yogurt, and creamy soups. If you progress too quickly your not allowing your stomach to heal and could cause stitches to pop.

    Bandster Hell Is Among Me!!!

This may not be what you want to hear but at this point post op you shouldn't be eating anything you want. You need to take this time to get used to the small portions that the post op diets wants you to have and fill in any gaps with proteins and protein shakes. You need to heal up. Overeating can cause issues with your pouch and you don't want to further delay your progress.
  12. You will lose pretty quick at first but it will slow down. You just don't want to lose too quickly or your skin will hang off you instead of having time to firm back up

    Overeating

For me I am only 5 weeks post op and haven't had any fills at all so for me to be on the safe side I stick to the 1/2 cup rules when I eat. I weigh and measure everything.

One Size Lap Band Fits All?

The size of your lap band is determined by the size and shape of your stomach. I have a 14cc band due to the fact that my stomach is shorter and rounder. If you have a longer thinner stomach then you can have a 10 cc band. My surgeon explained this to me at my post op visit.

    Sleeping???

It wasn't until about a month out that I could sleep on my stomach but I used a body pillow and propped myself on the side.
  16. I used cocoa butter and still do. It helped to moisturize and make mine stop itching.

    I Cheated

I would stick to the rules. This is a time for your stomach to heal, it doesn't matter if you can eat it, it is the point that at this time you don't want your stomach working too hard because of the stitches that holds your band in place. If you pop those stitches it could be a slipped band. I know it is so hard but it is best to just stick to the diet.
  18. Was just trying to see who has the same newline birthday as I do. Who started their journey the same day as me and how you are doing so far.

    Post-Op Hair Loss?

You need to make sure your getting at least 60 protein a day. If you aren't it can cause hair loss.
  21. This will be the first ride since being banded on 5/24/12. I'm hoping for a successful trip. We couldn't of picked a more beautiful route then skyline line drive in Va.
  22. I'm waiting on my first fill. I believe keeping the weight off is the hardest part

    Been A While...update

I love your post for many reasons, one being that your honest. I know that I'm just a newbie but I also know you can't be 100% perfect and not have anything that is considered bad for you. The band is there to control your eating. Thank you for posting this.
